I'm a millennial who feels very much the same as what you described for genZ. My family has been fucked over by grifting corporations (parents lost their retirement when WorldCom went down), have spent every last drop of savings on my dad's Parkinson's, and my sister and I graduated with mountains of student debt because our college funds were hollowed out so my dad wouldn't fade away to his disease. The vast majority of their platform of easy access to healthcare and education, corporate reform, and a rejection of market norms sounds pretty fucking good to me. The current system is not set up to benefit even a majority of Americans. It's a fucking vacuum sucking up the American dream and leaving us with a not even interesting dsytopia30 points

Brocks ain’t coming here and that was plainly obvious when they set up two officials to Bama after their spring visit. And they can go fuck themselves. Way to ruin your legacy and your grandfathers legacy here. I’ll have a sour taste in our mouths when we hear that name because I’m petty as fuck. But if there’s one position Herman and company have nailed it on, it’s OL. You guys really don’t remember what a damn shit show OL was before he got here. Mack fucked us so hard depleting the OL talent and Strong was just a straight up moron. For the first time in a long time, we have talent, depth, and NFL prospects. They have a plan for these guys with their redshirt years. They have specific traits they look for and they let Yancy do the rest. Cosmi, Christian Jones, Kerstetter we’re guys we’d never heard of. They will all play in the NFL. Angilau was highly recruited and they did a fantastic job developing him and getting him ready start as a RS Frosh. Willie Tyler who no one fucking knew about has transformed his body and is the biggest OL on the team and will contribute this year. They also do a great job of finding grad transfers. Calvin Anderson was huge for us. Parker Braun filled in a big need. TLDR: Fucks the Brocks... we’ll be fine at OL.25 points

Mack is desperately trying to show the country and all of you $200 Longhorn donors that you were wrong about him that you made a mistake in firing him. It's just icing on the cake that it happens to be at the expense of aggies again. The sad reality is that he will never acknowledge that he fucking quit trying and rested on his laurels in about 2008, and if he would have had this same intensity from 2006 onward, he'd have a hell of a lot more to show for it and he wouldn't need be trying to re-prove himself.13 points

Yeah we get it. You think it’s overblown. You’ve become such this sarcastic, dismissive poster since it started. Like you had an inner anti-vaxxer waiting to come out Normal people would see the Medical community is struggling to nail down the long term effects of the virus. So maybe we should be cautious because it’s still a huge unknown. But no, it’s the media. The libs. The Chinese. The football haters.13 points

I wish we could come up with a better insult for weak sensitive pathetic people. Pussies give pleasure. They’re fun. They bring forth life. And, more importantly in this context, pussies are strong, tough, and hearty. They take a pounding like a champ. And that bringing forth life part is traumatic to a pussy but they bounce back and get back to business. You know what genital part is actually weak and sensitive and can’t even withstand minor contact? Testicles. We need to start calling these weak sensitive pathetic people testicles or ballsacks. Bill Mitchell is a ballsack.10 points

I first voted in the Nixon-McGovern election. I have voted in every presidential election and almost every off-year election since then. Never have I voted a straight ticket. I have voted for Republicans for trial and appellate courts, JPs, state House and Senate, Congress, etc. I have always at least tried to educate myself a little on the candidates running for office. Not this year, and likely for the foreseeable future. I will vote for Dems and only Dems, and it barely matters what they actually stand for. Ever single politician with the designation of "R" is complicit in the Trump Travesty. They all need to go. The only possible exception would be if John McCain rose from the dead.10 points

For those that didn't follow, the Dallas salon operator that called every reporter in town to let them know in advance she was going to open her salon in defiance of the shut down order, had her gofundme set up days in advance as well, then pocketed over half a million from a bunch of idiots.9 points

I hate to say this because it’s going to come off as provocative but the conservative movement for my entire lifetime has been about protecting white supremacy in American society. Every policy idea has the consequences of protecting the established white wealth and power structure while oppressing women and minorities. Yeah, free market capitalism sounds wonderful if you’re working under the assumption the market is egalitarian and not racist AF but that’s not reality. Give minorities education, healthcare, or welfare and it’s socialism. Give the banks, farmers, and Wall Street stimulus money or a tax cut and it’s the American way. How about border security? No one gives a flying fuck about border security until the people coming in aren’t white. Look at our prisons, look at our law enforcement, and ffs we still have 10 military bases named after confederate generals with the conservatives still defending them. Abortion and gun policy are also rooted in keeping the white patriarchy protected. This isn’t some grand conspiracy either, it’s just hundreds of years of internalized and normalized white supremacy9 points

Again....repeated for emphasis. He just characterized the statement "Black Lives Matter" as a symbol of hate. He's a racist. He's the president of, by, and for racists. If you support him, that's what you support. Period. No excuses, fuck any argument you try to muster to the contrary. You support a racist piece of shit, which makes you a racist piece of shit.9 points

As a West Point grad, it’s ingrained to not be too political while still serving. So a lot of my classmates are pretty apolitical on Facebook, even the ones that are out of the military. But Trump’s idiotic rant about the West Point ramp surprised me with how many quiet Trump haters it brought out. I saw over a dozen of my classmates publicly mock him not just for the feeble walk but for the stupid rant. These people were already voting for Biden but now they were using their influence and saying it. That has to indirectly lead to some Biden votes. Very few of my classmates are vocal Trump supporters. There is a tendency for the enlisted to vote Republican because they think it means bigger raises. And they would absolutely look the other way at a handful of servicemembers being killed if it meant they got a pay raise. Hidden deplorables.9 points

I have a Carl Reiner story that I hold very dear to me. I figured I'd share it today, on the day of his passing, because I hope it will bring some other people some joy the way it does me. Growing up my dad and his twin brother fell in love with Sid Caeser's Your Show Of Shows. It is the show that made my dad fall in love with storytelling and comedy. They worshipped Caeser along with castmember/writer Carl Reiner. Caeser, Reiner, and the other writers on their show, including Mel Brooks, Neil Simon, Larry Gelbart, and Woody Allen, all made my dad and uncle want to be writers, which they both ended up being. Growing up my dad's choice of dinner on every birthday was Beef Stroganoff. Why did he eat Beef Stroganoff on every birthday for his whole life? Because of a joke on Your Show of Shows. When Charlton Heston was a guest on the show they did a cold war spy sketch where Reiner was told to go to a restaurant and “ask for Beef Stroganoff.” He sits down and the waitress comes over. Reiner says "I'm here for Beef Stroganoff." She leaves and a short while later Heston walks over to the table and asks Reiner “can I help you?” Reiner responds “I asked for Beef Stroganoff,” and Heston pauses and then in his deep voice deadpans “I am Beef Stroganoff.” The joke made my dad laugh his whole life. Around 20 years ago my dad had his yearly birthday call with his brother (they're twins). My dad mentioned having Beef Stroganoff and my uncle asked why he always had that on his birthday. Confused my dad just said “because of the sketch.” My uncle had no idea what he was talking about. It turns out he remembered the sketch clearly but was convinced Heston's name in it was “Sauerbraten” not “Beef Stroganoff.” They ended up arguing about this for years. My dad bought every DVD and VHS of Your Show of Shows he could find. He watched every clip online and every documentary, but there didn't seem to be any surviving tape of the sketch. Jump ahead 10 years and Carl Reiner writes a new book. He announces he will be signing and giving a talk in NY at the 92nd Street Y. My dad sees his chance. He buys tickets as fast as he can. My dad was desperate to ask him about the sketch in person. But knowing that he may not get the chance, he also wrote up a letter to hand to Reiner in case there was no time to ask. When it came time for the signing my dad waited in line and when he got in front of Reiner he told the story of how his whole life he'd loved the show, and the sketch, and Beef Stroganoff, but then he got in the fight with his brother. Carl listened. When he got to the part about how they couldn't remember whether it was Beef Stroganoff or Sauerbraten he asked Carl point blank- which was it? Carl Reiner stared at my dad, laughed, and simply said “That was a long time ago.” My dad thanked him anyway, got his book signed, and then decided to hand him the letter he'd written too, just because he had said some nice things in it about how much he appreciated Reiner's work over the years. Two months later. My dad is out for a bike ride. The phone rings. My mom answers. A man asks to speak to my father. She tells him that he's out. The man says he'll try back another time. She asks who it is and he says “Carl Reiner” and hangs up. No number. No caller id. Obviously we are all in awe that he called and we wait for him to call back. And we wait. And we wait. Finally a week goes by and the phone rings. My dad answers it excitedly, like he'd answered every call the past week. But this time it's Carl Reiner again. He says he read the letter my dad gave him at the signing and he found it so touching that he wanted to share it “with the others.” Then he puts the phone on speaker and Carl Reiner is having dinner with Mel Brooks and Sid Caeser. They are calling my dad to answer his question about a sketch from 50 years ago. They all make some jokes and then admit they have no idea whether Charlton Heston was named Beef Stroganoff or Sauerbraten in the sketch. But they all agree Beef Stroganoff is funnier, so they give the victory to my dad over my uncle. This was literally one of the best days of my father's entire life. His heroes called him up to chat and make jokes and thank him for caring. It meant the world to him then, and it means as much to me now that they would do that. As a sidenote a few years later my dad went to the Museum of Television in New York and decided to watch some stuff from the archives. There they had some episodes of Your Show of Shows that aren't available anywhere else. My dad sat down and watched them all. On the very last episode they announced a special guest- Charlton Heston. My dad held his breath. The sketch begins just as my dad remembers it. And then Sid Caeser tells Carl Reiner “Go to this restaurant and ask for Saurbrauten.” So even your heroes get it wrong sometimes. But I love that my dad made the joke funnier. Thanks Carl for inspiring my dad to be a writer. And thanks for being so kind, generous and warm. He tried to follow in your footsteps in all of those things and I'm trying to follow in his.9 points

I'll have to think about how much this dilutes their complicity in paving the road for Trump by using the hate engine themselves. Trump did not create the hate, he simply saw how to steal the reins to it. I guess it's better to get on the right side of something even if it's terribly late, maybe too late for the republic. On the other hand, fuck these GOP dickheads who got us here. Fuck them for taking Russian money. Fuck them for abandoning any real attempt to improve the nation. Fuck them for invading Iraq under a cover of lies. Fuck them for helping to create the criminal enterprise that the GOP has become. Fuck them for muddying every issue they try to turn to their own material favor. I'll leave the forgiving to Jesus on this one.7 points

If only the states could get together and create some sort of national center that controls and prevents diseases. It could be staffed with a bunch of public health experts who'd advise everyone and organize the local responses. Probably too crazy of an idea.7 points

Under the right circumstances, I would. The one we attended had near 100% mask use, and the people were not packed closely together. I wouldn't go to one with unmasked participants, or tightly packed bodies. And yes, I think it was worth it. I mean, if you want to boil it down, we chose an incremental risk of our health for what I believe is a fight for the soul and future of our country, the country I'd like to leave for my children. I think that risk was worth it, and still is. But understand, I never thought the risk was fake, or a hoax -- we went in eyes-wide-open. For the record, I don't think that either set of protests (the re-open protests, which while the participants weren't masked, they were mostly outdoors and not right on top of each other, and the BLM protests) meaningfully contributed to the spikes. If you look at the demographics seeing the spike - young people, and working class people (many hispanic) - that indicates that the bulk of the spread is from close proximity, unmasked, in either social settings (bars etc.) or work (contractors, warehouse employees). I'm sure there are protesters in there, but it's not the big driver. I'm sure there's a case or two from a grocery trip, but that's not the driver.7 points

Look, I’m not saying hope is lost. I’m saying when we come out the other side of whatever happens, things will be very different. Hopefully that’s better for most, and hopefully we can do it without lots of people dying, although I would argue that the death toll is already running, because our failure to contain COVID due to poor compliance is a man-made disaster. As for the kids- I think revolution is what they want. If you think about what a Gen Z person has experienced in their life, nothing has ever gotten better. They woke up to Obama and are entering young adulthood with Trump. They think Democrats are lying clowns, that Republicans are an existential threat to the earth, and use terms like “late stage capitalism” to describe the market failures that result from rent seeking and grifter mentality . You and I want to save our institutions and systems from Trumpism. The kids see Trump as a natural, eventual outcome of our systems and want to see our institutions overturned. They want a better world, and I think they will put us on the path towards one eventually. They are smart, motivated and totally unsentimental about the past. But if it is left to them the path will be harder and more difficult than it needed to be because we will start with ashes. I've said this before: it’s up to millennials with all the help Gen X can give them. They are the last cohort who remembers, if distantly, what is at stake and just how much we have to lose. After that, the deluge.7 points

We are wasting time arguing about whatever effect the protests had. I don’t mean here on this website but just in general. Meanwhile whatever the cause of it, we are spiking hard and THAT’s what needs to be addressed. oh, Nueces county today where there were basically no protests? Went up 90 cases to 364. Hospitalizations from 105 to 170. ICU 33 to 58. Folks, these are some fucked up numbers and they likely reflect the beginning of this spike.6 points

Kristy signing off would be new info, to me at least. We knew they were going to commit to Bama at some point. The "wait and see" camp knows they'll commit to Bama at some point, they just think the door is open for a flip, which it very well may be. Look, fuck Blake. Fuck that guy and his glass ego. Fuck that guy. He knows that it doesn't matter where his boys play. He knows that this is not about continuity. Alabama is objectively more likely to experience more coaching turnover than Texas in the time they're in school. But, Blake steers his kids away from the bad man who hurt his feelings because teaching your kids to be petty as fuck is more important than continuing the Brock AA legacy at Texas. Fuck that guy. But, yeah. This is nothing new.6 points

You're selling them short. In that brief period of time they learned that you need a border wall, you need an armed police force to guard that wall, and the greater metropolitan CHAZ area, and that ID's are needed to identify oneself properly for admission to the Chaz. They get an A for civics 101....the little dears....6 points
