  6. Of course they did the right thing on landing. No one was asking them to do barrel rolls to evade enemy fire. The PR thing is that they should have said "Our aircraft was stolen at gunpoint. We did what we could to get our customers out as safely and as quickly as possible. We regret that one of our valued customers is now in the hands of those that threatened us" instead of issuing some press release indistinguishable from a weather delay.

  7. You must hate happiness. Football shitting the bed over the last decade has made it that much easier to root for sports that actually win (or at least put themselves in a position to do so). People shit on LHN all the time, but that's what the network was built for, highlighting non-revenue/Olympic sports.

  10. i do not. you're lying and you're doing it needlessly and in a non-believable way at that. your posting history betrays that you are a politics junkie and playing the gambit like many dt posters of simply acting like you have never heard of the more inconvenient personalities or organizations that have risen in prominence over the last 5 years as a way to not make the republican party responsible for them is pathetic...and it betrays your lack of character or integrity.

  11. (csb) My daughter was a standard-bearer at the WMO Phoenix Open a few years ago. Her group was finished and she was waiting in the security area for a ride back to the volunteer compound. It was late on a Friday and nobody was around. Phil happens to walk out of the clubhouse and sees her standing by herself. He walks up to her and thanks her for helping out with the tournament. He then asks her if she'd let him autograph her WMO cap. She of course says yes and he signed it and shook her hand. What always impressed me about that was that the only three people in the world to witness that were him, her and me standing about 20 feet away. One of those deals where he didn't have to stop and talk to her and went out of his way to do so for no other reason than to be nice to a 14 year old kid who was standing by herself. Was really happy for him yesterday.

  12. I found an old photo of my "guitarsenal" in the early to mid 90s so I thought I would scan it and post here for the hell of it. Of those 10, I only still have 1, 3, 7 and 10. The Rick 12 was so sweet and pics don't do it any kind of justice, but it had to go. I don't have any of the amps. Kinda wish I still had that 30watt Marshall half-stack.

  13. SIAP. Bush and the General Land Office (GLO) decided not to provide any of the $1B in federal funding to improve flooding after Harvey. The money is being split by every other county not named Harris County. To be clear, there are a few small pockets of Harris County like Baytown that are receiving funds. They're cool because they vote GOP. Basically the GLO adopted a point system that eliminated Houston due to its size, even though Houston sustained the most economic damage during Harvey. Not to pick on Bastrop County, but they are receiving $28 million for flood control projects, while Houston gets $0. https://www.texastribune.org/2021/05/21/harvey-houston-harris-hurricane-relief/ Bush has claimed that Houston and Harris County incorrectly filled out some forms but even his office isn't backing up that story.

  15. Thank you, sir. Finally, for fuck’s sake, someone here is willing to call @SydneyCarton out for his behavior, low moral fiber, and general inappropriateness on this forum. The rest of us have been kowtowed and run over repeatedly by this dark, nefarious force. At last, a hero rises and I hope you vanquish this motherfucker once and for all. He’s been running this board like Johnny Tyler running a pharaoh table and we need someone to stand for all of us.

  16. Driving with buddies to FL Panhandle in high school for ‘86 senior trip, gf left 2 hrs before we did, got to Destin w/ her girlfriends 2 hrs after us. I asked what happened, she said they got to Mobile & saw sign b4 tunnel that said “Hazardous Cargo, exit 64.” She took it to be a warning there was HazCargo ahead & thus they needed to exit. Routed them to the north, they drove back roads, no Interstate, most of the rest of the way.

  19. Maybe I am Capt. Obvious here, but MTG telling Robert Reich "you've never done the real hard work that builds an economy" to a former Secretary of Labor (as in, she has no clue who she is "debating" with) is pretty dang rich.

  20. I just want to re-iterate how impressed I was by the team yesterday. They really rallied together to win that game 7 - it took a monumental defensive effort to win that game (not just from Corona, but the whole team to avoid an error or a WP or PB with the tying run on third with no outs). 3 newbies to this team - Whitaker, Corona and Jacobsen - really stepped up in crunch time with clutch pitching, clutch defense and a clutch pinch-hit RBI. This team could have (and most likely did) get a bit down on themselves for not winning the first game and getting walked off in extras. Demoralizing, then to turn around and do it again very late at night, was not easy. Plus Jacobsen being given the ball with a super regional on the line, at 11:30 at night, and pitching a 5 hit shutout? Amazing. Mike's 11th straight super regional. Two in a row at Texas. The last two in a row supers appearances we had were 2012 and 2013 (and we hosted both), so this is a huge achievement and a baseline level of success for White at Texas. 2 supers in a row, but both are on the road. The next level of success is a top 8 seed and hosting a super regional (damn you COVID).

  21. I don't need to chew on it, it's been building and fed like a fatted calf of racism as they (the GQP supporters) await their Great White America that will solve all their problems. The social media is full of this, Gab and its owner support the entire platform of nationalist, evangelical, white, pride. Lo, look yonder! The return of the Whine-More Republic. Makes me sick to my stomach.

  22. This seems designed to increase the likelihood of confrontation and discourage business owners from establishing their own boundaries. A sign should absolutely be sufficient and carriers should be responsible for checking and understanding regulations when they go into businesses.

  25. He is getting talked back up now he is on the mend -- he went to Russia and Serbia a few years ago, right when the Alt Right was anointing him as their intellectual guru, to undergo weird treatments for benzo addictions that are banned in the west...They didn't go so well and he wound up in a coma, but survived. He had to relearn motor functions, a whole bunch of shit... I am fascinated by the street-level history of the US between the world wars...There was a HUGE white underclass at the time -- immigrants in the northeast and not yet Rusty Rust Belt and my own people, the po' white trash all over the South, many of them still illiterate or close to it. Many were very violent and extremely dangerous -- crime rose to historic levels in the 1920s and much of it in Texas was at the hands of dead-end white sharecroppers' kids. By that time they were being rendered obsolete by farm technology, so they were pouring into oil boomtowns like Borger and Kilgore and cities like Houston and Dallas, where they were building shantytowns on the fringes, where you had all the usual vices in plenty. And they were all uprooted from their old support systems and extended families in the fields and piney woods...To make a long story short, Bonnie & Clyde were just the tip of the iceberg and very late to the game. The whole country was crawling with little roving bands of robbers who'd kill you in a heartbeat if you stood in their way. It got so bad the Texas bankers' association put out a $5k bounty on dead bank robbers, the overwhelming majority of whom were white. Not for live ones -- just dead ones. And so of course you had people finding the town drunk or junkie or some convenient minorities, shooting them, and then trying to arrange their bodies in such a way as to make them seem as if caught in the act of robbing a bank. Ranger Frank Hamer loathed the bounty system; he investigated more than a few of these killings. So along comes the war and the GI Bill and bada bing, bada boom, the vast majority of this huge White underclass were basically welcomed into the American Dream while Blacks were explicitly not invited. And so now we associate Black people and other minorities now with crime, and there are those stats Sack loves to wield, but the fact is, those at or near the bottom of society tend to commit the most crime, and especially so when there is a very justified sense among those people that they have been cheated, swindled, dealt a shitty hand, and all that less by luck than by deliberate policy and historical fact. This is the difference between poor Black culture and immigrant culture of every race -- their are cultural pathologies descended from slavery and Jim Crow that cannot be stamped out in a few short years. Enforced generational poverty does not end within one generation. LBJ's reforms were a good first step but not as sweeping as the GI Bill had been. I really wonder what America would be like today if the GI Bill had been applied and enforced equally to all Americans after WW2. And if we stuck with true integration of public schools for more than about five or ten years. But that's a whole other deal...

Kiddo and I leaving that game, walking in front of some sucka ass bitch. We went on live with Channel 8 right after that. Great night:
