Counterproposal: let's let all Afghan women in who want to come and let's send you to Afghanistan.20 points

It's a profoundly ignorant perspective. Stevie Ray didn't steal from Jimi, he stole from Freddie King and Albert King but rocked it up. Jimi Hendrix was abundantly aware of those guys and they informed his playing as well. Jimmie hybridized the midwest blues of Freddie & Albert with B.B. King and Buddy Guy, but he distilled it down into more of a stinging, attacking style, whereas Stevie Ray veered into the rock realm. Stevie Ray always said Jimmie could play him under the table. Personally, I don't believe it, but I'm a much bigger fan of Stevie's blues rock than Jimmie's deep blues. Can't argue the authenticity of either, but anyone who thinks Stevie Ray was ripping off Jimi Hendrix is a fucking idiot. They were both ripping off the same guys.20 points

My 3 year old says she wants to be “a circle” when she grows up and says her favorite color is “poo poo”. We asked her to wear her mask all day at daycare starting this week. Zero complaints, zero issues. People who complain about wearing a mask are fucking weak.17 points

Just got off phone with mom a bit ago. She was crying and upset over one of her best friends, who is (and the entire family) a hard core Trumper, who just never thought Covid was something that would affect her, who my mom pleaded with to get a vaxx... has been in intensive care for the past 2 weeks and probably won't make it. Dad found out by calling her husband, because they had not heard from either of them since late July. Turns out he has it, and has for the past 3 weeks or so, but because he isn't bad enough, he is at home. The husband is depressed because he can't go see his wife, and he is at home by himself. So, you get the picture here. Family, not vaxxed, and the parents who are in their mid-70's are handling this the worst, and one might not make it. Oh, of the family....3 kids....none of them are vaxxed. Neither are the in-laws or grandchildren. To top it off....the daughter is an ICU nurse at, yep, you guessed it...the very hospital where her mother is in ICU. So is a granddaughter. So there's at least two ICU nurses at that hospital that I know of that aren't vaxxed...and yet, their very own mother/grandmother is laying in there, due to Covid, probably in an induced coma, and probably won't leave alive. But let's not get that fucking shot.16 points

I don’t even know where to start with this. The people who have fed you this diet of bullshit have done everything they can to reinforce it. The GQP has broken government at every turn, declared anyone who reports on it and disagrees (the media) as the enemy, and evidently succeeded in convincing a decent part of the population that everyone is out to get them. Ignorance is the parent of fear. What you fail to understand is, you are being manipulated and conned by wealthy people into helping them continue their grift. You are dumb. Just like all those confederate soldiers who didn’t own slaves, but bought into the “those elites can’t tell me what to do!”, well, they are, and you are a sucker. Get a brain, moran.14 points

I’ve seen enough. Negged for saying dumb shit in the past about Ohio State would have beat Texas in 04 if Hamby doesn’t drop a TD in the third quarter. Negged for getting pissy about ppl talking shit about Big Ten schools for being careless with sexual assaults. Negged for the butthurt about people talking negatively about Ohio. Negged for being a cockgoblin and not knowing Jason Isbell. And negged for this pathetic display of “awe shucks whotf is Stevie Ray Vaughan.”13 points

I got the surly $9.95 practice report. Bijan Robinson is a stud Why tf is Kai Money the only receiver who can catch? Really think Sean Lee is going to be great at middle linebacker. Oh that’s a Brock? Nvm fuck the Brocks. FCB was ahead of me in line at the concession stands so I didn’t get a hot dog. Hudson Card has really small hands. The burnt ends look good because of our contributions. Will update more as practice goes on.11 points

1984. October. First semester on the 40. Monday night. Steamboat on 6th. Wandered in and 8 or 9 people were sitting around watching a guy in a black hat riff freestyle. About 1am, someone asked for the Star Spangled Banner. The guy in the black hat said "sure, but I wasn't there, and neither were you". Fair enough. At 3am they finally made us all leave. I asked the guy in the black hat if he wanted a ride. He said "no, i'll walk." And that's all i've got to say about that.11 points

I don’t think I ever saw a lineman under Hand secure the block and then move to the second level as well as Okafor did on that middle tweet by Baizer. I know a lot of people are worried about the OL, but we have a real OL coach now. Guys are actually developing. Our run blocking looked drastically improved in the spring game and it looks good in those two clips.10 points

Taliban held a press conference. Practically everybody asked if they would respect human rights and women's rights. They said they would in accordance with Sharia Law which isn't promising. Women are being told all around to go home and stay home. Don't come out unless you're with a man. If you had a job, you can't work it anymore, but a male relative of yours can. So far just head coverings are allowed, so they haven't completely forced women back to Burqas at the moment, but they're going around and whitewashing over all images of women they see, and there is a gruesome photo on twitter of a woman they shot "for refusing to wear a burqa," so who knows: The media is going around posting headlines like "Have they changed!?" and "Is this a new woke Taliban?" But I think everybody else except them doesn't buy a word that the Taliban spokesmen are saying. Actions speak louder than words. Aside from the whitewashing in the tweet above and there are posts of people saying they're killing anyone they see with the old Afghanistan flag (not the white one) and showing videos of the Taliban going around and rounding people up, and shooting protestors: Some journalists are saying the UK set up a mini embassy in the airport, and are committed to getting as many people out as possible. The 2 PARA (an airborne unit) is supposedly doing runs outside of the airport to rescue people trapped in Kabul when the "hunker down" order went into effect. They claim the CO of the UK troops and the US troops is tense and have turned into a few shouting matches. Supposedly the UK think the American leadership is incompetent and not doing enough (probably true), so they're running their own operations. So they're preparing a plan to defend the airport if the US decides to leave, by flying in some Scottish troops. The troops on the ground are also pissed at their leadership, but that's nothing new for the NCOs to bitch about Officers. They also said that the UK are angry at the Germans, the German air force brought in an entire empty A400M for their own people. The UK offered to pay them to bring UK citizens with them, and the Germans said no and flew out anyway with only 7 people. US is sending in more Marines to secure the airport: Meanwhile, The "resistance" in Panjshir province got beefed up a bit, but they started negotiating with the Taliban, so people expect them to fold to the Taliban eventually:10 points

Completely unsurprising that you just skipped the post where @jimmyjazzdropped the truth on you and are just pretending like it didn't happen. If you also want to pretend that you're not a troll then the rest of us will just have to accept that you're a genuine idiot, and a cowardly one at that.10 points

Complete bullshit. There was never a vote to invade Afghanistan. In fact, neither Afghanistan nor invasion were mentioned in the AUMF. Here's the language: SEC. 2. AUTHORIZATION FOR USE OF UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES. (a) IN GENERAL.—That the President is authorized to use all necessary and appropriate force against those nations, organizations, or persons he determines planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, or harbored such organizations or persons, in order to prevent any future acts of international terrorism against the United States by such nations, organizations or persons. In other words, the AUMF allowed him to use whatever "necessary and appropriate force" he wished against those he determined were responsible for 9/11. It was up to him to 1) determine the appropriate force and 2) determine who was responsible. He failed on both accounts. Reality: the decision to invade both Afghanistan and Iraq was made long before Bush was even elected. All one has to do is read the PNAC statements from 2000, the statements that Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Perle etc... signed on to. The were just looking for a justification/pretext for those invasions. 9/11 provided it.10 points

My 16 yr old son is immunocompromised. He was scheduled to get his 3rd Pfizer shot on Monday, but completely lost his sense of smell on Sunday. So instead of getting the vax he got a COVID test instead. Positive. Damnit. It has been mild so far, but what a stressful disruption to our lives.9 points

My Tiny Little Problems Dept., Update: Sent an email to all my Juco students in tomorrow's class. Went like this: Friendly words, friendly words, Bring a mask, cover mouth and nose when inside Wear casual clothes, because I'll teach you outside if weather's good Bla bla, closing friendly words. BTW, get extra credit by replying that you received this message Starting to get acknowledgements. Purpose of email is to avoid silly-ass "I didn't know" scenes, and if somebody is full-on Muh Freedom, they are forewarned and free to drop. I don't know why somebody wouldn't wear casual clothes to a Freshman Juco class, but I put that in there so nobody gets grass stains on they Carolina Herrera Icon Two-Tone Trench Gown.9 points

For the first time since I can remember following Texas football, I think we are getting reverse kool-aided. Do we have the depth we want at receiver? No. But these guys act like we have some plodders running around on the outside with cement shoes. Worthy and K. Robinson are 4.3 guys, Whittington, Dixon, and Moore are 4.4-4.5 guys. The main issues I can derive about our receivers (outside of the dropsies of late and Dixon's injury) is that they aren't winning 1 on 1 battles, but that really only applies to man coverage. And man coverage can be schemed open to a large degree with motions, formations, and play action, Sark's specialty. We also happen to have some really good corners that these guys are going against. This offense may not be as explosive as what Sark worked with at Bama for the last few years, but by no means should we be turtling up before the first fucking game. 40 carries and 40 passes per game should be the formula for this season, and the distribution of those touches in the passing game will likely have heavier tight end and RB involvement than in years past.9 points

Not sure where this news is coming from that all the teachers are required to wear masks in Eanes. One of our neighbors has a disabled child who is severely immune compromised. Even pre-COVID, it wasn’t uncommon for her to end up in the hospital if she caught something. But they found out yesterday that a couple of her special ed teachers at Barton Creek refuse to wear a mask. Each of them would only be around her for about 20 minutes/day, but they all said it was their choice and they absolutely wouldn’t wear one. It was quickly escalated to the principal and then the school board. Nobody is doing anything. Now, they’ve hired an attorney, but they can’t start school until it’s resolved. They’ve contacted every private school within an hour’s drive, and there aren’t any available that can deal with her disabilities. It’s heartbreaking. The mom can hardly stop crying, the girl can’t stop crying, my wife and daughters are crying about it. I’m infuriated. Those teachers are despicable human beings and have no place in a teaching environment. ETA - when I say it’s common that she was hospitalized, I’m not exaggerating. The parents are basically numb to it. Their concern isn’t that she MIGHT have to be hospitalized, but rather they know she will and there may not be an ICU bed for her when it happens.9 points

chronicle scathing..... Editorial: How can Abbott protect Texas from COVID when he can't protect himself? The Editorial Board Aug. 17, 2021Updated: Aug. 18, 2021 6:23 a.m. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott takes off his mask during a press conference on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2020. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott takes off his mask during a press conference on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2020. Ricardo Brazziell, Photojournalist / Ricardo B. Brazziell Personal responsibility, apparently, is for the little people. The powerful have Regeneron cocktails at the ready. The powerful have good health insurance and doctors who make house calls. The powerful can quarantine in the comforts of a taxpayer-funded mansion in downtown Austin. That’s one takeaway from the announcement Tuesday that Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has COVID-19 — the very day after he tweeted about his appearance at “another standing room only event in Collin County” attended by an estimated 600 people. The tweet included photos of the event in which the maskless governor waves from a stage, facing a tight crowd of applauding supporters — nary a mask in sight. How can we trust the governor to protect Texas from this raging pandemic when he won’t even protect himself — or, for that matter, his supporters? We wish the governor a speedy recovery, which is highly likely given that he is fully vaccinated and was reportedly experiencing no symptoms — yet another reminder how even though breakthrough infections occur, they rarely involve severe illness, prolonged hospital stays or death. The bigger concern is whether Abbott exposed any of his unvaccinated supporters in one of his many campaign events, where photos have shown him rubbing elbows without a mask in large indoor gatherings, at times in up-close-and-personal conversation, at times squeezing in for photos or sharing a laugh under a crowded tent. What happened to the governor’s March speech, where he announced that Texans had “mastered” the safety protocols such as masks and distancing that can stop the spread of COVID? What happened to the worn-out phrase he regurgitates every time he defends his callous ban on local mask requirements: “We’re past the time of government mandates, we’re into the time of personal responsibility.” If a man elected to lead nearly 30 million Texans can’t be trusted to act responsibly, how can he effectively persuade others? We’re not just talking about the upper-income folks who attend Republican gubernatorial fundraisers. We’re talking about the millions of children returning to school who can’t be vaccinated. We’re talking about the rural Texans who must travel an hour to a hospital, only to find there are no beds available. We’re talking about the multitudes of Texans who have no health insurance and no relationship with a trusted doctor who can inform them about vaccines. Texans are watching you, governor. What are you showing them? Not a champion of personal freedom. Only a mascot of incompetence. An elected chief executive who is now contagious and home-bound because he refused to follow his own advice to the little people. A governor who not only refuses to lead an effective campaign urging Texans to protect themselves and their communities, but actively threatens to punish and sue local leaders who try to impose safety requirements such as mask-wearing. Sure, many Republicans had a great deal of fun chiding the COVID cases among Democrats who flew on a chartered plane without masks to DC in early June. They should have worn masks. But their indiscretion came at a time when many Texans were happily tossing our masks after becoming fully vaccinated. We had done our part — or so we thought. We didn’t account for the new, more contagious delta variant and the millions of fellow Texans who did not get the jab, and still won’t wear so much as a mask to stop the spread. We didn’t account for a governor who condones their irresponsible conduct with his own. Abbott’s carefree maskless outings come as Texas is experiencing what health experts call the worst surge of the pandemic. Across Texas, more than 11,700 are hospitalized for COVID. Rural hospitals are turning away patients — COVID and non-COVID — and trying to fly critical ones out of state for care, watching some die in the process. In Harris County, the largest contiguous medical center in the world is spilling over with the highest number of COVID patients ever admitted. Local officials say several hundred can’t even get in the door. Houston has reached the grim milestone of more than 3,000 COVID deaths and officials announced Tuesday that one in every five Houstonians getting tested is positive. The state’s response has been too little too late. While the health department recently announced it was opening nine infusion centers for Texans to receive Regeneron’s experimental monoclonal antibody treatment that can help mild cases avoid hospitalization, NBC News reported on Monday that Texas had also requested five mortuary trailers from the federal government in anticipation of an influx of dead bodies. Abbott likes to say, in another context, “the most precious freedom is life itself.” We agree. More than 54,000 Texans have lost theirs now — some because they believed vaccine conspiracies and some because they believed political leaders who claim a face mask is more tyrannical than a deadly infectious disease. The governor is reportedly feeling fine, self-isolating and receiving the Regeneron treatment as a precaution. He seems to be in good hands. If only we could say the same for Texas.9 points
