tldr: Promised land? Who knows? But we didn't make a bad hire. I've been in the "show me" camp for two seasons now. Here's my "don't know fuck about shit" observations. Sark is highly respected in the coaching community and believed to be a really good hire here by those in the profession. This matters. He has assembled a very good staff. There are some gaps still. But the overall quality is top notch. The coaches here believe in him. They recruit well. They develop well. Football is won in the trenches. He gets it. He addressed it immediately. And then our staff made our D-line very, very impressive with guys who were getting tossed around last year. Player development is evident. Christian Jones should be the poster boy for this team. In 2021, people were frothing every week while he was blocking air, diving at the turf, calling him "turn stile", and no one even noticed him this year. He's not the only one who got remarkably better. Texas won five games last year. 5. And they still brought in a kick ass recruiting class. Guess what is coming next year? Kids want to play for him. They believe. Some of y'all don't, but they do. He doesn't mince words, act too cocky, overreact, blame the kids, or, in general, be a douche. There is a plan. For a program. And that's what you need to consistently win. Everyone is looking for the instant gratification, portal fix, pixy dust fix, shiny new coach fix, but that's a myth. You need a program if you want to win consistently. Like all coaches, there is some hubris there. There should be. You don't want someone that doesn't believe in "their" system. But he's showing that he can evolve and adapt. As the talent keeps improving, the plan will work better and better. There have been lots of wtf moments with his decisions this year, no doubt. But anyone who doesn't recognize that TH was running this ship into the rocks or thinks that replacing our coach every two years with the "latest, greatest coach (see J. Fisher) who can save us" is a good idea, is just dooming us to another decade of doom and gloom. I don't know if we'll be sniffing the championship game with Sark, but I recognize the improvement. If he can unfuck Ewers's head, we're going to be really good next year.33 points

I don’t even know why I bother engaging with Beast, probably as an outlet to how shitastic OSU’s football season has become. However, the fact that you refer to people who declined to sign a contract committing them to long, intense, ‘hardcore’ hours as ‘divas’ tells me more than enough about you. Anyone with options and self respect should absolutely have bailed out of there the moment they were presented with that form. Beyond hero worship of the rich, this secondary fascination with people who refuse to give their sanity to support large companies as being diva/lazy/worthless/selfish/etc is hopefully, slowly coming to an end via the youth of this country. This isn’t the 60’s where you have a pension waiting for you if you stay loyal. It’s been proven over and over again that they have eschewed any commitment to individuals in the name of quarterly profit. And yes that sounds all South Park ‘the corporations, man’ hippy-ness but any remaining doubt has been killed by PPI loan handling and taking advantage of the complex drivers of inflation to continue raising prices. Massive stock repurchasing. All of it. Fucking Jimmy John’s wants me to add a tip on a pickup order because they won’t pay their people enough. Airlines stupidly furlough’d tons of pilots as a short term cost saver during Covid, are now short handed on captains, and are making us pay higher fares as demand outstrips supply. Disney was an absolute shitshow last year with record crowds and broken rides/light bulbs/full trash cans but are still raising prices to cover for their greedy failures in the streaming world. Fuck em all. I’d be out of Twitter the moment that contract shit hit my mailbox. You’re laying off half the company under the guise of cost savings / leaning, and now I have to work endlessly to pick up the slack. Fuck. That.20 points

I would prefer they hang on to Worthy, but if it is truly something over the top, good luck to him. He’s not twice as good as to other potential starters. It should be no secret that Evan Stewart is insisting that he’s coming to Texas. I’ll believe it when I see it.18 points

5-7 with what Herman left to 8-4. I know the board wants 15-0 every year but I’m good with this start.17 points

I'll tell you about this Grimes character. I think the moral of the story is he'll fit right in at aggy, and that he'll be yet another expensive failure. So one day Grimes was at home and slipped on some stairs and hurt his back and his doctor happened to be my cousin, Dr. Rocky. So good ole Dr. Rocky gave Grimes some ointment and told him to rub it on the area of injury. And that Grimes fella went home and he rubbed the ointment on the staircase. Wooooooop.16 points

My first tech job in Austin was for a startup led by a man who has become very visible in the Austin start up/VC community. On my 2nd day of work, he called me into his office. At the time, the company was small enough that he the CEO was part of the panel that interviewed me. He said he was greatly impressed with my creativity in a technical medium, and as such he had a very important first mission for me at the company. He then proceeded to pull a crystal ball out of his desk. Like a wizard’s scrying ball. He flipped a switch on the base and it began to glow. He then fiddled at his keyboard a little and started to explain. “This is a wizards orb. It’s got network connectivity, and an api that lets you control it. It’s connected to my laptop now, and I can control it with this software.” He clicked a bit on the computer and the orb started glowing a pleasant green. He clicked some more and it started glowing an agitated red. ”Wow, cool.” I said, feigning interest. ”It is, isn’t it?! I want you to program something to interface this with our systems. So that when all is well, it glows green and when things are degraded, it glows red. That way I’ll always know the state of our system.” I digested a moment before asking some questions. ”We already have a big monitor in the dev area that shows colored graphs of the health of various systems in real time. What does this give us that that doesn’t?” ”Nothing. But it’s fucking COOL! Plus that’s out there, I want this in here. On my desk. How long do you think it’s going to take to whip something up?” ”Uh, I dunno. It’s my 2nd day, I haven’t looked at any documentation, I don’t know what systems to tie it into. Give me the rest of the day and I can get you an estimate.” He frowned. “This shouldn’t be hard for someone of your caliber. Get me a working prototype by the end of the week.” “Ok.” In the end, I tied it to our public website response time metrics so that anything over a half second glowed red and anything else glowed green. He was ecstatic. I mentioned it’s limitations and how it could be expanded on to give better indicators of health across various systems, but he cut me off, “This is so fucking COOL!” He showed it off at the next all hands proudly, using it as a prop to discuss the innovation we were driving at this company. Of course, this had nothing to do with our core business and did nothing to get us closer to profitability, a successful exit, or assist in subsequent fundraising. I never heard about the wizards orb again, though it stayed on his desk and if website perf went down, he’d come out of his office to see what was up. There was no follow up effort to make it more useful or indicative of what was going on with our systems. CEOs and tech founders are an odd bunch.15 points

It’s all NIL based. Lincoln Riley is a piece of shit as usual. I think Texas should offer every guy they like on their roster $1M and make USC figure who they want to give raises to as well. I’ve said this for awhile, but outside of QB, there will be no more loaded position in the portal than WR.12 points

I feel like we haven’t talked about how fucking ugly that stadium is in some time. They crow on and on about having more money than god and facilities but that is one ugly ass upgrade they paid for over there. It’s like a truck bed welded on to the back of a Chevy lumina and then the bondo was put on by a blind guy and never sanded.12 points

If Worthy is leaving then at least we can laugh at the fact that by taking him from Michigan we denied him a spot in the playoffs.11 points

I have to say being alone in this giant mansion did not start off well. I chose a life of solitude a long time ago, but I'd never felt crushing loneliness like I did the other day. I reached out to a friend and she told me about a friend's giving going on that I would be welcome at. So I grabbed a bottle of wellers and and hit that up. Just a couple hours there did me a world of good and got my mind straight. Watched every game of the world cup except usa vs butter teeth. Fuck Portugal and their flopping asses. I hope they get eliminated. Went to the game with the best seating I've had in a decade. Met some first timers from Canada, so it was a lot of fun sharing all of our traditions and telling them stories about Vince, Earl, and Ricky. Now I'm up way too damn early and thinking about a breakfast beer.11 points

I think it's hilarious that the surly usuals yapping about "7 win Steve" are still doing so after he notched 8 wins with a chance of another, and maybe two more. I mean, let a little sunshine in your life. Hell, bleach your asshole, it almost worked for A-a-ron Rodgers.11 points
