  1. Power to you, I guess. I will say that the first bit you posted about the big bad MSM is an interesting misuse of journalism. Only headlines provided, which are often not even written by the author of the article, so no context as to what either article truly said. Even then, your gotcha moment highlights the name of a writer without any reflection on the dates. One written in April, the other 3 months later. Is it possible that the virus, and hydro, came to be better understood based on the subsequent study? That the first article reflected known medical practice at that time, and the second article provided updated information to the reader based on the latest data? Science and brains, can we first go back to using those? Otherwise, it's just a bunch of noise. Since you started off with such a disingenuous example, I won't bother discussing any of the rest which kinda defeats the whole point of the thread. However, nothing of what I see above is about being a conservative person when it comes to our governance. I don't see anything that doesn't demand MORE government in personal lives. It's all about the issues that YOU deem important, demanding as much be done as the other side about YOUR personal issues. Ensuring the adherence to the Constitution is not an exclusively "conservative" trait. It's just not. That's another example of the co-opting of a word for your partisan glean. Frankly, it's absolutely antithetical to the Constitution. There isn't one way things must be done. Being on the losing end of an election, legislative vote, or court decision isn't an affront to the Constitution. It's how it works. You haven't shown me anything that is seeking a conservative approach to governance under the supreme law of the land. The view presented in the OP doesn't have much to do with only having a federal government that provides an impenetrable national defense to our enemies, a solid and advanced infrastructure that reflects our union, and the protection of all people within the borders under the words of the document from which it all starts. On the other hand, what I see presented has a lot to do with demanding fealty to one collection of opinions. Again, not what this place is about. I am a lost conservative. Out in the wilderness from when the word had real meaning. I have no label to take now because the debate has become enraptured to the cult of personality, intolerance and bad faith interaction. Some both sideisms, but lately not very proportional at all. I don't care about the tint of your melanin, I do care that the ignorant and backwards understandings about how this thing works that I see demonstrated in the OP have potentially foundered this nation, political labels be damned. That is what will drive my next time in the ballot box. A reckoning must come.

  4. these are the biggest problem with the R right now. the whole tactic of "i can prevent you from solving X problem by mentioning Y problem." it is bad that black people are systematically treated worse than whites. ah yes, but what of abortion? it is bad that our immigration system forces these people to live in the shadows while exploiting these people as the lowest wage earners. yeah, well, homeless is a problem. all the work goes into fashioning the stupid whatabouts into sounding like mic drop moments so you can end discussion to ensure no problem ever gets solved.
    18 points
  5. Which are both a load of horseshit anyways. You want to reduce the number of abortions? Sacrificing our democracy and embracing a corrupt President just to try and get Roe overturned won't do that. It will just mean abortions are done in the shadows and in a less safe circumstances or women will have to expend money to fly to states where abortion is legalized. If you really want to limit abortions, you should be pro-health care, pro-education, and pro-safety nets for women. All things the Republican party is vehemently against. That's what the data shows works. Not a ban on abortion. The entire "pro-life" movement is a load of shit meant to manipulate single issue voters to vote Republican even though, by and large, Republican policies are against those voters' best interests. And as for guns, there isn't some big liberal movement to ban guns. That's Republican fear mongering. What Democrats generally want to do is keep weapons of war out of the hands of crazy people who will use them against other Americans. That's a view with which many conservatives actually agree. So if you're supporting Trump because you're worried about abortion or the Second Amendment, you are doing so because you are an easily manipulated, ignorant fool.

  6. I know this is the most common refrain on the Brocks and maybe it would have worked, but overall I disagree. Clemson handled them almost the exact same way Herman did. I honestly think James would be hard-pressed to ever play meaningful snaps here at C, and I say that at the same time that I say he has an outstanding HUDL, he's one of the better HS OL that I've seen. I just don't think he can improve much over what he is now and I don't think there's a world where you line up someone like Keondre Coburn over the top of him and ask James to handle him for 75+ snaps a game and he could succeed. He'd get Suh'd. I do think he'd be a killer inline blocking TE, honestly. There's a reason why there were discussions about if he was worthy of an offer at Texas and that it was slow in coming. There's a reason why people wondered if he'd end up a PWO at Texas or playing somewhere like Boise (I think that would be his ideal fit, honestly), Washington State, or UVa. There's a reason why the Clemson offer never came. There's a reason why Dabo wasn't in the country during their visit. There's a reason why Jeff Scott and Tony Elliot (the co-OCs at the time) didn't even come up to the school and/or meet with the Brocks when they visited Clemson. Only Caldwell (OL coach) and later Batson. All this happened and the Brocks were quoted as saying if an offer came they'd jump into the top 5. Batson then used the exact language that Yancey did when talking to the Brocks and the Clemson dream died because the offer was never going to come. Clemson doesn't have nearly the attrition and portal turnover that other schools do (and yes, you can talk about paying and blah blah, but tOSU, UGa, Bama, Auburn... all have a lot larger turnover and attrition). The biggest part of that imo, is that Clemson does a better job identifying and evaluating talent and generally not taking marginal athletes. I'd much rather Texas tell recruits the truth than to have do the attrition shuffle year-after-year. Bama not having a dominating defense is a direct result of attrition in both coaching and players. Some attrition will happen it's part of the sport but mark me down for team painful honesty.

  9. Brothahorn thinks he’s not a victim just because he says so. The entire premise of being a victim is the idea that you didn't ”choose” your circumstance, it was forced upon you. George Floyd could have been a conservative/independent for all you know, but yet here we are. He’s dead. Another point, most black people are surprisingly conservative. The only thing Dems have to offer POC is the idea that they will protect us from racists. This is why you tend to see black people vote Dem, but typically for the most conservative democrat on the ballot. In laymen's terms: You can talk shit about the Democratic party all you want, Hell I encourage it, but don't act like the shit that continues to happen to black people in this country is based on some bitchass notion that we’re a bunch of crybabies and not ACTUALLY based on the very real oppression that has existed for centuries.

  13. I guess it's only fitting that conservatism, currently defined by OP, can be reduced to random Twitter personalities and blurry Facebook screenshots complaining about the media. This is your thread and that's what you bring to the table? Do you believe in anything? Do you believe in severing our long-standing global alliances in exchange for solidarity with dictatorships? Do you believe in the tariffs that are currently being paid by you and me while your president lies to your face about who's paying? Do you believe in the month-long government shutdown in order to force the taxpayers to pay for an ineffectual wall that he promised would be born by other nations? Do you believe in the POTUS calling the opposition party traitors? Do you believe in the president using his position to enrich himself and his family? Do you believe that the first amendment allows the federal government to favor one faith over another?

  15. Since the conservatives(especially minorities) have so little voice on this forum. I decided to start my own thread. Because this is what America is about. Not all of us are bitches crying about the past and looking to be a victim. I will post views from minority conservatives, libertarians and independents. Joe Biden doesn't own us all. While I won't always agree with everything I post, I feel it is important to show that there are way more views than what is currently represented on this site.

  16. That means aggy will lose Colorado. What if....and go with me here....the SEC decides to replace those games with in-conference games.... So instead of Colorado, Alcorn, BFEU, etc, they have to add Florida, Georgia, and Kentucky?

  18. I disagree with the first part of this premise. I'd say the viewpoint on this forum is dominated by conservatives. They just aren't Republicans and are horrified by the nihilism of the modern GOP. Ideology is mostly irrelevant to where we are right now. Minority voices aren't well represented, I agree. Also women. That's a function of historic underrepresenation at UT of minorities, and the fact that this forum is tangent to a football board, which a majority male interest.

  22. This is terrible, horrific logic if you truly believe this. It also is dismissive of people of your own race who are fucked over by systemic racism. Just because they communicate that to others doesn’t mean a.) they are playing the victim card and b.) they aren’t working hard to better themselves. Moreover, there are people of your own race (me) who don’t claim to be a victim (me) but who still speak out about racial injustices (me). You can live your life how you want and walk around being proud that you’re above other Black people because you’re a Black Republican, but it’s condescending to imply that those who aren’t Black Republicans/Conservatives do nothing but “sit around and play the race card and find a way to be a victim” and that is what makes you better compared to other Blacks. Not sure if this is the thread or not, but I encourage you all to listen to 538’s podcast on “How The GOP Chose To Be A White Party” where Clare Malone goes into very great detail and depth about what caused Blacks to flip from voting primarily Republican to primarily Democrats. The history is pretty good. I read this thread at the gym this morning and promised I wouldn’t even post in it. Damn.

  24. This is always true. Even as recently as 3 years ago, they struggled with the mid-tier guys in-state so they grab a 0-star in Orebo (who was being pursued by literally no one else) and Trainor who was an immobile 6'7" OT that was coming off a knee injury. They signed 7 defensive players from OOS in that class and followed that with 10 OOS guys in the 2020 class. The entire 2018 class is basically attrition, so there's really no Texas kids on the defensive 2-deep other than 26 safeties. The 2021 (and beyond) in-state kids have played with each other via pee wee/pop warner/travel teams/7on7 for years. Think about visiting a school that's in-state and not seeing a single guy that you've played against/with and compare that with a visit to Texas, TCU, OU, Baylor, even LSU. Think about being a 7on7 coach or a speed/agility trainer in Texas right now. For 3 years aggy has taken guys like Chris Russell, Dallas Walker, Joshuah Moten, Tarian Lee, etc ... over guys that you've trained and driven to College Station since they were 8 or 9 years old. Think about being a player and consider all of the regional schools only 1 of them plays in a shitty slow down offense and a non-attacking defense. One. And they don't win or even compete for their division. Think about living in College Station. Right now - the 2020 and 2021 kids are simply not interested in aggy. Even if aggy wanted to course correct I don't know that they could easily. I posted about the S class in 2021 in Texas. It's a really deep group of guys. There's plenty of talent and it should've been easy for aggy to land 2 guys that are quality players. None of them have interest in aggy. that should never be the case for an in-state P5 school, much less the premier in-state SEC school (no, seriously). Aggy has made FIFTEEN OOS offers at the S spot and exactly ZERO in Texas. I for one, applaud this strategy.

  29. The problem with this thread is that BrothaHorn states that he is going to post Black Conservative (and Libertarian) views and then basically does that entire side a disservice by posting what can only be described as caricatures and Black versions of some of the nutty Trump crowd that invites easy ridicule and a one off dismiss of the idea of a Black Conservative. Yet, there are examples that don't look, sound or write like they came out of central casting for a Trump 2020 series. Why not post those? The easiest to digest and that comes to mind is Glenn Loury's show on Bloggingheads.tv. I do not agree with a lot of what is said there, but at least it's a legit attempt at making a counter argument. John McWhorter is also a frequent guest and when the two of them are on, you get to listen to a discussion about viewpoints that are decidedly not Leftist coming from 2 Black men. if you want the up and coming, then read some of Coleman Hughes' work. Very young, but quite the writer. You can start with The Case for Black Optimism and Black American Culture and The Racial Wealth Gap . Of course, Hughes will tell you he isn't a conservative. Others abound. Not hard to find. This is a college board. Getting into things that can't just be summarized as tweets should not be difficult.

  32. Don't forget - Luke was given a scholarship last season (Texas was under 85) during the bye week. Think about that as you think about how Blake has handled this entire thing. That's my issue with the Herman dropping the ball narrative. It's simply not true. And yeah, if they pick Bama they can find a home for the 3rd brother as well and Herman would be more than justified in cutting his ass loose.

  33. Something else to consider is their "SEC SEC" sales pitch has not sold aggy to recruits, but has rather sold their SEC competitors to Texas recruits. They haven't been selling aggy - they've been selling the success of their competitors. Idiots.
