What are you stupid? No one is talking about the 1st Amendment. What we ARE talking about is personal responsibility. You asked what generation I am from? I am from the generation where we never knew you were supposed to wear helmets to ride bikes. That same generation knew that WORDS got your ass kicked. If you came home and told your dad that you called some kid a(insert racial epithet) and got your ass kicked, he would simply ask you what did you learn. Your parents weren't running up to your school saying, "but words". When I was a kid you didn't turn on tv and see anyone, anywhere saying the hateful shit Charlie Kirk said. You also didn't have the got-damned President of the United States saying divisive shit while addressing the nation. Words have always been the catalyst to violence. Always. Right wing media is saying that Kirk got popped because the left was calling him a Nazi and White Supremacist. Well, the simple solution is don't say White Supremacist/Nazi shit. Kirk said this-"If I see a Black pilot, I'm going to be like, 'Boy, I hope he's qualified'" That statement IS White Supremacy. He wouldn't wonder if a White pilot is qualified because the pilot is White. Both pilots got their pilot's license from the same place, but because he sees the black pilot as inferior, he would question his qualification. Someone who was not a White Supremacist would say, "Gee, I hope ANY pilot is qualified". Kirk is dead because HE continued spouting rhetoric like this. He could've stopped at any time. It's not our responsibility to not categorize his rhetoric, it's his responsibility to control what comes out of his mouth. We literally use these same principles everywhere else. When we hear a rapper got shot and killed because he wore a bunch of jewelry in the hood what do we say? Opposing sports fan being a douche in the wrong section what do we say? At some point the onus is on you. I am not going to stop calling people White Supremacist when I literally have dudes doing Nazi Salutes at the Inauguration for the President of the United States of America.60 points

Our d was awesome Our punter is really good. I don’t think Arch sucks. This team is going 11-1 or 10-2, making the playoffs and we will be a favorite in every game we play. Fight me!57 points

All of you are sitting around moping about like someone just shot your dog. Frankly - I'm fucking tired of it. This is Texas football. Back to back CFP appearances. Back to back national semifinals. B12 champs 2023. SEC title game 2024. Back to back 12 win seasons (13 last year). Thorpe award 2024. Outland trophy 2024. 25 NFL draft picks the last two seasons. Get y'all's fucking shit together and quit being a bunch of bitches. If I have to see one more motherfucker post about 2010 Texas or Garrett Gilbert I'm throwing a damn brick through someone's window. I am so, deeply sorry that Arch Manning isn't instantly 2019 Joe Burrow. Why don't all of you relax and watch a couple more games before claiming that this team is going 7-5. These dogs get another warmup and then they all go get to prove themselves. We are going to fuck Florida's shit up. We are going to fuck OU's shit up. Have some fucking faith in what your head coach has shown you and what he has already delivered for this program. The QB is green. They will figure it out. Together. Give them time. Have some God damn faith for once in your life. THIS IS TEXAS FOOTBALL, GOD DAMMIT. Let's fucking ride. 🤘52 points

just in case you are not aware of the circumstances and facts regarding this topic..... the date for saturday's game, 30 august 2025, was contracted 2 years ago during the negotiations between Texas, 0u, the sec, the rig12, disney and fox, which resulted in an agreement that paid 0u's fee to exit the rig12 a year early https://www.si.com/college/2023/02/03/big-12-sec-texas-longhorns-oklahoma-sooners-split-explainer Texas paid our own early exit fee 0u did not have the money to pay theirs consequently, given that Texas could not move a year early without 0u, it was in Texas' interest to find the money for 0u and thus, the venue for last year's Texas-michigan game, which was originally in Austin, was switched with the venue for the 2027 game, which was in ann arbor the venue for this year's Texas-tosu game has always been columbus, however the date, 30 august 2025, was reconfirmed BY CONTRACT during the above mentioned negotiations in february 2023 the 2025/2027 venue flip of the Texas-michigan game was made so fox could broadcast last year's game in ann arbor under the fox b1g contract that change helped create the cash necessary to pay 0u's early exit fee to the rig12 in addition, the dates for the 2025 (ann arbor) and 2026 (columbus) games were negotiated and set during the contract changes which rescheduled these games YOU, tosu, were at the table during these negotiations YOUR league was at the table during these negotiations if you wanted the date changed, you, your league, and your tv partner should have made it part of the deal and despite the above...... YOU, tosu, control the kick off time of the game this saturday YOUR problem is YOUR b1g contract with fox because fox has a baseball contract that negates your ability to schedule marquee night games that would require a national fox ota broadcast YOUR school, team, fanbase and media conflated our refusal to change the DAY of the game with with only 60 days notice, with YOUR belief that Texas was somehow responsible for YOU not getting YOUR night game if your school wanted to change this game to the sunday of labor day weekend so it could be a night game and not violate fox's contract with major league baseball inre: no saturday night b1g national ota games, YOU should have rolled that in to the negotiations in february of 2023, rather than wait until 60 days out when thousands of fans had already booked flights, hotels, cars, bought tickets, and the University of Texas had already contracted it's charter flights, buses, hotels, etc. 2 years ago there would have been time to move back and reschedule all of the remaining non-conference games, and to work with the sec regarding our bye dates, in advance of the 2025 season schedule being set, all of which would have been done for YOUR benefit, not ours, to enable you and your league to get you a night game avoid conflict with your tv contract partner's relationship with major league baseball it's amazing to me how that topic, the fox mlb contract regarding saturday primetime, was NEVER mentioned by your school, ad, fans or media, during their collective meltdown this summer over saturday's kickoff time50 points

https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/46020555/college-football-vince-young-rise-texas-legend-began-ohio-state When Young spoke candidly, everyone listened and responded. The season before, in 2004, the Longhorns trailed Oklahoma State 35-14. Brown opened the locker room doors and was about to give a halftime speech. "'You ain't got to say s---, we know what the f--- we got to do," Griffin remembered Young saying as he cut off Brown. "It's hilarious now, but in the moment, you're like, 'Did he really just say that?'" In the second half, Texas outscored the Cowboys 42-0.48 points

Just talked with a former OL who has sat in on multiple practices, and he is drinking all of the koolaid. Pretty much what we’ve been hearing but it’s good to get more confirmation from a non $9.95er - the interior o-line is what he was most excited about, using the words “nasty disposition for the first time in years”. Actually getting good push, and be thinks we have strong backups. - Tackles have looked solid. Nick Brooks is the truth. - tackle depth is his only concern.48 points

I'm more excited this year than 2009. It's 2005 for me in terms of the last time I had more confidence. I thought the 2009 team was razor thin and that the OL was a piper tiger. I remain shocked to this day that Texas made it to the title game and was controlling it before Greg Davis' dumb fucking playcalling. My perspective has very little to do with Arch Manning. I really would like for him to be awesome, but the Texas football team, and all of us, don't actually need him to be awesome. He needs to be solid. Beyond that is all found money for this team. This is the deepest roster for Texas in most our lifetimes. There are dudes at every position and in every class. The storyline used to be that the Alabama second team was a top 10 team. I never fully bought that, but top 25 for sure. I see this roster in that same vein. The defense's second team is probably a top 10 unit, or close enough to argue it. There is that. I think the hype and the anti-hype at a national and casual fan level is all driven by the interest in Manning. That's fine. I just think it is misplaced. Kannell and Dvoracek taking Texas in the #8 spot of their rankings is a great example of the anti-hype. They're almost solely reacting to Manning and thinking they're coming across as savvy that he and the OL will have growing pains. Guess what? They will. The opposing team still has to score more than 17 points if and when that happens. Good luck with that. The Manning focus from every direction is burying this team's lede, and I'm a-okay with that.45 points

I guess I need to preface this by saying I am not celebrating what happened to charlie kirk. Yet, the only MAGA posters on this site who even bothered to show up on the thread about a right wing nut assassinating two Democratic politicians, only did so to attempt to gaslight us into believing that the assassin was a liberal and/or a Tim Walz plant. Nor did any of them give a shit when right wing extremists shot up places of worship or shopping centers. But NOW, they are very concerned about what's happening in America.43 points

This is what I find so hilarious about our DT posters who rag on aggy. Oh, so you have identical beliefs concerning economics, race, religion, education, taxation, politics, and social issues as aggy, but you want to sit there and mock their intelligence? goodluck.gif39 points

We are going to kick this off Saturday night instead of the usual Sunday morning because we don’t have any data points from Texas playing a game to incorporate into the weekly preview. Texas is undefeated and hasn’t played a game. So, of course, we are 10 feet tall and bullet proof. Is this true? Yes! Look, for any of our fans who don’t get it, we are about to see our best defense since 1983. We have a Manning under center. We have the best offensive coordinator in college football. This is all designed to freaking kick ass and take names. Usually, in a big game, I spend a lot of time mocking and ridiculing the opposite team and fan base, but I’m not going there with this game. I’m not going to bring up the fact that they are a bunch of meth addict, jort wearing, community college, townie drop outs. I’m not going to make the point that they cheat. I’m not going to bring up the fact that they are the worst combination of degenerate southern dipshits and midwestern morons. I’m not going to point out that in a conference full of academically good schools they are the clown college. I’m just going to say that winning in the shoe, morning or night, is something Texas is absolutely at home doing. Their frosh QB is going to see ghosts. Their basically new defense is going to get shredded. We are going to fuck their shit up. Texas 31, Ohio State 13. Eat a bag of dicks Buckeyes.38 points

Howdy folks - Buckeye in Austin here, checking back in for the first time this season. Best of luck to y'all this weekend. I have zero feel for how this game is going to go - both sides with obviously extreme talent but inexperience at some very important positions. I think TX has a slight edge at QB given Arch's game experience last year, and a significant edge on the sideline since we will be breaking in two new fresh coordinators (even though Hartline will have a nice safety net given that Day has spent most of his career calling plays). Calling it a wash over the other positions (TX with an advantage at DL and LB, OSU at OL and WR, etc) I would expect TX to pull out a close win, and a blowout in either case seems extremely unlikely...but playing this monster in Game 1 just adds an unaccountable weirdness factor. My 6-year-old daughter fortunately loves me very much and wants to root for OSU to make me happy, but as the lone actual Austinite in the family she is torn. She'll be wearing a TX dress underneath her OSU hoodie for this one.38 points

I just told a friend I have known for 35 years to have a nice life when she posted a Bible Verse about Charlie Kirk and said he was a good Christian. I then told her Jesus preached to love others and treat others how you would want to be treated, and Charlie Kirk had nothing but hate in him, and his goal in life was to stoke that hate through his platform. She of course did not post something similar with Melissa Hortman died. I am done with people. Effectively, she only condemned political violence when someone she perceives on her side is the victim. I am done. If you hate people for things they cannot control like their race, their sex, their gender, or where they were born, you are a piece of shit. I might not understand people or their life choices, but I try and at least treat them with respect, unlike purported Christians.36 points

Pro tip, dumbass. When you paste something in rich text, it's obvious to the rest of us that you lifted that quote from somewhere else. Why don't you try citing your source instead of just passing off someone else's shit as your own. As another poster shared already, look at all efforts on good faith discourse: https://www.politifact.com/personalities/charlie-kirk/ That being said, I want to be clear, there is no space for political violence in this country, this is fucking horrible, and to be honest it doesn't end well at all for America. There will only be escalation after this, and it fucking sucks this is where we are as a country and species.35 points

i have zero condolences, thoughts, or prayers. gun violence is deplorable, but this man spent his adult life fomenting hatred and violence, and he is absolutely (at least partially) responsible for his own assassination. i opened up twitter as soon as i heard the news and i saw nothing but high profile left wing politicians and personalities condemning this assassination, and all thoughtless gun and political violence. funny, i’ve never seen the right wing folks react that way any of the dozens of notable times when political violence has been inflicted on the left. today they will cry foul and will wholly condemn anyone who celebrates this killing, as if they and theirs haven’t been reacting with glee whenever left wing figures are attacked with hammers or shot down in their own homes. that’s why they will get zero sympathy, zero condolences, and zero sadness from me. these people have been fomenting this violent climate for years, and celebrating when it was the other side getting killed. i would never feel sorry for a member of hitler’s gestapo being shot and killed, and i am not sorry, or sad, or offering my condolences for a member of trump’s propaganda machine paying the ultimate price for his own actions.35 points

You dickrode Trump for 4 years, cheered for kids in cages, and talked about wanting to shoot immigrants. He was killed because at the end of the day, he was a piece of shit grifter making great money stoking the hate machine. That's first and foremost what he cared about. And while he has a right to free speech in this country, he ran a certain risk with all of his inflammatory bullshit. Actions have consequences, and I guess someone had enough of his divisive bullshit. And I hope they find the person that did this and that he faces the full consequences of his actions. But my opinion of Kirk hasn't changed a one bit. He's like Rush Limbaugh. Fuck him and all he stood for. He didn't give one fuck about unifying this country, that's not where the money is at. The money is in the grift, and the grift was in keeping people angry.34 points

Trump got shot and we didn't have a civil war. There isn't going to be a civil war over this. Every Democratic leader will denounce this and say we need to end political violence. Every Republican leader will blame Democrats.34 points

It’s not particularly new for college students to believe that they have a right to silence speech they believe conflicts with their moral values, and it’s not particularly confined to the left or right. You can’t even begin to count the number of guest lectures that have been pulled down on college campuses over the last 15 years or so after undergrad groups threw fits over the content. It is fairly new for the chief executive of the country to indulge their tantrums.34 points
