Or perhaps, Republican's aren't all racists.

But, I'm sure you've never entertained that idea.

Glad to see you made it over, AWK. That said, it's like you've been in a hibernation chamber for a few decades. You speak for a GOP that has transformed during your long sleep. They elected Donald Trump, can you believe that? Oh, they're also soft on Russia and big on tariffs. Oh! And the GOP president wants to create a Space Force as a new branch of the military! SPACE FORCE!

You may not be a GOP anymore.

Interesting...

You might not be a racist.  But you are wearing a racist's uniform.

It's not really worthy of a separate thread, but the more I think of it the more I have this strange urge to join the Republican party because there is such a vacuum of morals and ideals.  The first conservative I listened to regularly was William F. Buckley.  He was an odd duck but he and the liberals he engaged with spoke the same language and I never even as I got into college and the right wing got funnier and meaner that they were trying to propose policies that would benefit all Americans.

Not this POS in the White House, and not his supporters. They want to be the winners, and they don't seem to give a fuck about those who are the economic losers, other than to motivate them by hate and discord.

Democracy in a free market won't work without opportunity, and I want a government that is as limited as it cam be while still providing a safety net of the basics (health care) and opportunity (need based education through university).  Republicans could be leaders in that charge if they wanted to, and could tone down the overzealousness of the Left, but they've taken the lowest possible road.

I actually was upbeat after Trump won because I thought BOTH parties would move towards fixing their problems.  I thought the religious right and those haters could be marginalized by decent Republicans who were feeling that their party was getting away from them.  But that doesn't seem to be the case,  so Brisket's "kill them all with fire approach" is understandable, although I tend to be more optimistic.

Solid defeat for the Republicans this fall could lead to great improvements in the party.  I'm hoping at least.

For you youngies.. Gary Hart was a dem presidential front runner that got busted with a side piece.  The 80’s were a time when such a thing was considered a “scandal” and having a known side piece actually invoked enough outrage from the electorate that such a thing could cause you to not be a viable candidate for the presidency.

And what's germane to this thread is how he got busted.  He openly challenged the media to follow him to see that he was clean.  They did, and they caught him climbing aboard the motor yacht Monkey Business with the aforementioned side piece.

So yeah--for a generation of us, when we hear "monkey business," we think Gary Hart.

Maybe, I know very little about DeSantis as a candidate. I did, however, grow up in an area where “monkey business” and “monkeying around” were commonplace, so all of the uproar continues to baffle me.

Then you baffle easily. DeSantis' comment was regarding his black opponent, not some white guy telling his kids who are supposed to be completing a task.

You are either in denial or you are as dumb as DeSantis thinking this remark is okay in this specific situation.

Yeah, the Gary Hart picture was germane because the boat they were on when he got caught with Donna Rice was named “Monkey Business”.

I was only a teenager when it happened but it’s always stuck with me for some reason.

That’s when all voters gave a shit about their politicians lying and bad behavior. Or least pretended to.

Shit, I’m old.

And I remember when the GOP was a reasonable party. I was even a voting primary member.

Now, a sizable percentage/majority believes things like the press is the enemy of the people, fact-based reporting is “fake news,” it’s cool to or children in jails, and guys named Jaime hanging Sheetrock are a major threat to our national security.

Let’s be real fucking clear here: fucksticks like you do NOT get to lecture ME. You don’t get to buy into those value systems and then lecture ANYONE about ANYTHING.

I don't believe that the press is the enemy of the people.  It IS extremely biased towards the left though.  Maybe they ought to be more honest about that.

It's cool that you think illegal immigration is ok.  More power to you.

I disagree.  I don't have a problem with increasing legal immigration though.

I do love how you toss out ad hominem and straw men to attack me though.  Like I said, you used to be reasonable, sorry to see you go.

You really want to be a part of that? Really?

Trump is a buffoon.

But, am I somehow supposed to support any position on the left merely because of that?  I think the positions of the left are HORRIBAD for the US.

I also don't like getting called a racist just because I support positions on the right.  Fuck people who stoop to that level.  It's 7th grade ad hominem bullshit.

It's fucking called "biased" when it literally quotes the president word-for-word and cites factual data.  Fuck you, you have zero credibility on that point.  None.

I don't think illegal immigration is "ok."  But you pathetic simpletons on team xenophobia have to label EVERY PERSON who disagrees with your draconian bullshit as "for OPEN BORDERS!"  Nope.  I've posted my position and proposals on this and prior boards 100 times.  I believe we need a functioning system, which ensures that folks who come here are vetted and end up on the grid, etc.  But I ALSO believe that fucking torturing children by separating them from their parents and even deporting the parents, leaving the kids fucking ORPHANED is fucking insanely cruel, and this will go down as one of the most shameful episodes in our history.  You have chosen your side.  History will judge you someday, but I ain't waiting to decide that you're a piece of shit.

Bullshit.  Your team is busy challenging the citizenship of fucking LEGAL, NATURAL-BORN AMERICANS.  Men like my father.  Born in a border town, at home, to a midwife.  So he's suspect now.  But he wasn't so suspect he couldn't serve his country in the Army.  Oh, that was AFTER he went to your precious A&M, too.  How bout them apples?  But in the eyes of YOUR FUCKING TEAM NATIVIST, he just might not be 'murican enough, and we need to nab his passport, okay?  Fuck you.  You either fight against that bullshit, or you enable it.  Your team is clear.  It's team ball-less coward.

Damn right I'm attacking you personally.  You know why?  BECAUSE YOU FUCKERS HAVE ATTACKED ME AND MY FAMILY PERSONALLY.  So fuck you.  I hope your family faces torture, suffering, and deprivation of their citizenship.  Suffering is the only way asshole idiots like you will ever learn that what you support is fucking evil.  You are either okay with what is happening, or you fight against it.  What kind of man are you?

We already know.  You're no man at all.

BLM couldn't give 2 shits about the orders of magnitude more of blacks being killed by blacks.

Why not?

Hey. @Ag with kids is here. Ag, I'd love to argue with you about this, but you aren't really making an argument. You're just asserting things.

Black Lives Matter exists not because all lives don't mater but because too often the life of black people in our society is treated as something without inherent value. And since I read your posts on abortion on the other boards for years, you should have the capacity to understand the point.

But directly to your question, it's almost like this was written with you in mind:

Quote

We actually do talk about it ... all the time.

It is perfectly understandable why white America assumes that black people don’t talk about black-on-black crime. However, the reason they make this assumption dates to a quote found in recently uncovered papers from an unnamed woman archaeological and historical researchers refer to as “Grandmama”:

“It ain’t none of their damn business.”

The reality is, in neighborhoods and cities across America, there are countless organizations, activists and movements dedicated to curbing violence in black communities. The number of “Stop the Violence” marches dwarfs the demonstrations against police brutality. Unity rallies and peace picnics happen every day. Scared Straight programs for at-risk youths, gang counseling, neighborhood watches, intervention specialists, youth counselors, and too many other people and groups to name all lead the charge against crime and violence.

But those efforts don’t make the evening news because they aren’t as salacious as people blocking traffic and protesting; nor do they serve the preconceived white confirmation bias. Besides, there’s no way white people would know about this unless they stopped deflecting with trite questions and instead actually went into a minority neighborhood to selflessly join the effort to address the problems plaguing ...

OK, you can stop laughing now.

It's fun to have you back. Since this is a thread about elections and trends, your ridiculous advocacy for partisan gerrymandering has now reached the terminal point I told you it would back on Hornfans, where your congressman doesn't feel required to debate the issues or speak to constituents about local issues. How do you like it so far?

Your team is presently challenging the citizenship of loyal American citizens, veterans, and A&M alumni like my father.

What are you doing about that assault on the most basic of our American freedoms?  Are you even bothering to speak up for these people?  A single letter to your Congressman?  ANYTHING?

You stand by while, in the name of YOUR country, the metaphorical jackbooted thugs are working to fuck over Americans....because they happen to be a bit too mexican-ish for some people's tastes.  Your inaction and lack of  any real response puts you on team collaborator.  You are what you are.  And you know it.

You are a spineless unprincipled coward, more intent on protecting what's yours than even expending 1/10th of a calorie standing up for your fellow man.  You have the courage and integrity of a salted slug, with the spine to match.  I'm not calling you ANYTHING.  I'm simply observing what you are.  In a time of moral crisis, you are worse than worthless -- you actually lean in support of the regime that perpetrates these things.

I look forward to the day your children are ripped from you and detained God knows where, for God knows how long.  I look forward to the day that you are refused re-admittance to this country because we just can't trust that your kind REALLY is a citizen.  Your team is doing both of those things.  Right now.  While you wave the fucking pom-poms.

Fight AGAINST THAT SHIT, or you might as well fight for it.  "Hey, I don't support Ag With Kids when he raped those 5 women, and murdered 10 kids, I have a real problem with that....but man, he's a really good CPA who does a great job on my taxes, so I stand by him and don't want him to go to jail."  You've picked your team, and you stand for NOTHING except yourself.  My hope is that maybe one or two of my words will stick in that reptilian brainstem of yours, and you'll wake up at some point with just a HINT  of what a POS you are.

What a terrible fucking performance in this thread by you.

Nobody called you a racist. You jumped in when people were talking about A CLEARLY RACIST ROBOCALL to wave your hands and try to divert attention to a straw man about everyone being called racists. That's not what was happening and you know it.

And now you throw in another straw man about supporting the left just because you hate Trump. Pure bullshit. Nobody said you should support liberal positions, just that you should maybe, you know, call out and berate CLEARLY RACIST BEHAVIOR instead of trying to distract others who are doing the same.

Unless you're claiming that hating racist behavior is a purely liberal position. Is that what you're saying? Because as an ACTUAL policy conservative and not a poser like you I would call that just as much bullshit.

Just pathetic posting.

I'm running into this a lot. It's decent people, conservatives who mostly still identify as Republican who are having trouble maintaining that identity when faced with a president whose low character they acknowledge and a policy agenda that is increasingly not conservative. I take it as a sign that their party identity is getting shaky.

It reminds me of the George Allen/Jim Webb election in 2006, when @Ghost of LL and Brisket were still Republicans and Goll got very irritated with me for equating  the word "macaca" with "nigger". He didn't like George Allen, and he didn't like what he said, and he didn't really think he would be a good Senator,  but he wanted the Republican to win and at any rate he felt like it was very important to make the point that conservatives are not all racist.

12 years later, Ghost doesn't identify as a Republican anymore. Neither does Brisket. I don't think they are less conservative. The GOP, on the other hand is openly trading both long-held policy position and long-held values for the hypothetical future behavior of judges.

The moral GOP support of Trump has been reduced to viewing the president as Judge-Getter-In-Chief and ignoring the rest of his powers.  If they view the government that way, and they want those sorts of judges, there isn't much irrational with their support.  You'll see a lot of But Gorsuch!s for this reason.

Of course, I don't actually believe those people view the presidency as so limited, so I just end up thinking they are using the above rationale as a cover for the positions they hold that they are too embarrassed to admit.

“The Republican Party is the Trump Party.”

- Republican National Committee chairwoman Ronna McDaniel

When the Chair of the RNC publicly says the GOP is the Trump Party and that Trump’s agenda must be embraced, that’s not some kind of gray area.  It’s not open for interpretation.   She is bluntly saying that if you’re a member of the GOP, you are a member of the Trump Party.

You are a loyal, unwavering supporter of the GOP, the self-avowed party of Trumpism, which absolutely DOES support that exact thing.

You don’t get to say “hey, I vote exclusively for Nazis, I support that party over all others, and want it to hold all power because I like a lot of its economic positions and stuff, but don’t pin that Jew-hating thing on me, I don’t agree with it.” That’s not how this shit works.
