Doesn't the composite "perfect rating" just mean they're the #1 overall recruit in every ranking set included in the composite? So a recruit could be 1.000 in the composite partially because of a weak recruiting year at the top of the rankings. It's not really a "this is how good this recruit is" score. It's a relative ranking disguised as a numerical rating.

Like I said, it doesnt really matter. He is rated the #1 player by every service. I am happy to take the field vs Arch. Getting your feelings hurt, because someone said Arch shouldnt  have a perfect ranking is silly. Doesnt matter how you couch it.

Nolan Ryan only received 99% of 1st ballot hof votes. People have done dumber things.

True...  rumor has it that at least one heisman voter actually saw all of VY's games, and still didn't vote for him.  What could be stupider? I guess either that or starting a land war in Asia.

Another issue is that what the services value at each position has dramatically changed over the years too. I don’t think Zach Branch would be WR1 in 2017 because all the services would have said he’s “too small.” Now, he’s just seen as having elite speed and great hands.

This is always a problem and always will be.  It's hard to look at player and consider every scheme and deployment for him.  There's also positions systemically overrated (WR) and underrated (TE) because of both how high school's use them and recruiters not understanding how important the position actually is.

Geoff Swaim is a good example for both.  3* throwaway extra blocking surface now on his 3rd(?) NFL contract.

Can any of you film gurus compare this year's CB targets to Terrance Brooks? Purely by composite ranking right now it's Toviano > Muhammad > Brooks > Matthews.

I’m no guru but I think Brooks is the best of the lot.  Bear in mind we have senior film on him so it’s a little unfair as a comparison.

Isn't Toviano a safety though?

Hmm. I was looking at 247, which has him listed as a CB, but On3 does list him as a S.

His junior Hudl actually has a lot of offense, but the defense highlights are all CB.

I realize this will be a difficult concept for you to grasp, but many folks who frequent the recruiting board care about the manner and details on how players are ranked, and how classes compare to one another across the sport. It’s an import part of understanding your own class, debating the quality of players, scheme fit, and the competition around you. Plus, you know, it’s a fucking recruiting board.

but you just stick to TrUst ThE coRChEs. That does seem about right

I actually agree with you, it's important to understand the how and why of a recruits rankings.

I was questioning people obsessing over the 'what', rather than the 'how' or 'why'. It ultimately doesn't make a shit whether a a recruit is a rounding error away from being a 4star or 5star, or whether they are 40th on the 247 composite versus 43rd on the On3 composite, or whether we are ranked 2nd or 3rd or 5th.
