Pontificating about "context" while laying national body count numbers at the feet on one person indicates this is nothing more than a bad faith argument.

425K people are dead.

You’re right. Context does matter.

Against the backdrop of the media’s continuous tongue baths for every left leaning political figure, I guess it’s possible for the publishing of a column titled, “Andrew Cuomo’s Covid-19 Performance May Have Been Less Stellar Than it Seemed” to be equated to “saying he fucked up and deserves criticism” and “how reporting works”.

Most people can see the absurdity of that, but it’s clearly missed by some.

Bullshit.

NY, by governor's order, knowingly sent Covid patients into nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

That's the reason for their high death rate.

You could make the equally absurd statement that more than 31K have already died under Biden.  It's a bad faith argument.

Had an inanimate object been President in 2020 and CDC/FDA just was allowed to function on autopilot, we would absolutely have less deaths, more mask wearing, more access to testing, better distribution of PPE, and a coherent vaccination distribution plan. States and local officials would be getting ongoing guidance, and there would be more accurate information disseminated in briefings.

Trump actively went out of his way to make shit worse by:

1) Downplaying the virus
2) Actively spreading misinformation and disinformation
3) Putting his unqualified son-in-law in charge of supply chains and politicizing the distribution of tests and PPEs to states
4) Inciting protests and riots in blue states that imposed shutdown policies
5) Absconded his role of leading the country during global pandemic, and repeatedly blame others. A 50-state, 30,000 county, 40,000 city hodge podge approach is bound to fail. Spent this whole year pointing figures. Pathetic. Maybe I forgot the time when Obama blamed ebola on the Dallas mayor and school board.
6) Not demonstrating minimum health protocols by wearing a mask and social distancing and actively mocking others for doing so
7) Organizing super-spreader events
8) Lack of prep for pandemics, interest in global health policy and pulling support from WHO
9) Horrible cabinet choices which encouraged instability and incompetence
10) Lack of collaboration with world vaccination efforts
11) No fucking plan to promote or disseminate vaccination.
12) Repeatedly fighting efforts to increase testing and promoting the efficacy of testing.
12) Generally not giving a fuck
13) Fighting efforts to transition power and let Biden’s team properly prepare for this emergency.
14) Undermined health experts, inciting death threats to people trying to do their jobs
16) Plotting a coup during a pandemic

Did I miss anything?

It’s just amazing how Republicans can be labeled as saying covid is no big deal despite blue states dominating the deaths per capita charts

I think I can help here. I’ll use a hypothetical to determine if you’re a no big deal guy.

Let’s say you’re driving, or walking, by your local park. As you get closer you notice something interesting. It appears there’s a group of 4 soccer moms at the mom with their kids. They appear to be talking and enjoying themselves while their kids are playing. They happen to be doing so while in the absence of a face covering of any sort.

How does this make you feel?

A) I’m angry. I’m so angry I might pull over and tell them about it, but if I don’t I will surely log onto the internet and relate the horror I just witnessed.

B) why do I care? They’re outside.

C) These moms might be hot. I should investigate.

If you answered anything other than A, you’re a no big deal guy and need to question all life choices and publicity reaffirm your adherence to #science.

Hope this helps.

Now do it based on population density.  To make it really accurate, do it based on the percentage of the population that lives in an area with a population density of over 10,000 per square mile.

You'll see right away that there are two big factors in high COVID death rates: 1) population density (NY, NJ, MA, and the like) and 2) fuck COVID, we think it's fake and aren't going to take any preventative measures (MI, ND, SD, etc.).  Throw in 3) "really poor states" (MI, NM, AL, LA), and you've covered them all.

The only factor that can be controlled for is 2).  Places with high pop density were always going to see higher death rates.  Poor states were always going to see higher death rates.  But STUPID states?  Well, they did a lot of damage to themselves.

North and South Dakota don't mind that our death rate is so high. Both States are apparently willing to accept that as a price for relative normalcy. Not defending or decrying that fact.

To be clear, it IS pretty normal out here. Schools are all in-person and we have many of our sports. Regular contact tracing applies of course. Rapid City has their yearly rodeo this weekend.

Looking at per capita death rates and unemployment rates between states run by GOP governors and those run by Democrats it seems to me the republican strategy was clearly superior.  And that isn’t counting the delta in lives ruined by the more draconian and ineffective lockdowns in blue states.

Want to consider the factor of population density....for a disease that is communicable....by people in close proximity to each other? No? Ok then.

Looking back in the CR-Covid threads, I was not alone in criticizing Cuomo early.

And that may explain the lack of knowledge here on the DT Covid thread; many here were sheltered from frank discussions about failures by everyone.

Some of you need to think about re-engaging and catching-up . . . if you wanna catch-up.

Ultimately it is none of my damn business.

Maybe you. You’re one of the outliers that will stray from the orthodoxy of that forum.

But, I was other there more than most back then and the most common refrain definitely was that the southern Governors were actively trying to kill people. They were ignoring science. How could they open schools, these fools? And where do we stand now?

Death rates roughly equal

unemployment roughly equal

quality of life in Texas/Fl etc>>>>>>>>Ca, NY, IL etc

quality of education for the last 8 months in Texas/FL etc>>>>>>>Ca, NY, IL etc

population and capital flight in those directions as well.

So how are we all grading now?

I think people would just appreciate some honest reflection from media and establishment. Cuomo is evidently “less stellar than we thought”. Um, ok.

How about the whole keeping schools remote thing? Only now getting some pushback on that when it’s been clear for months that it was ok. Show me the CR posts calling out Biden admin for being 100% wrong on that. I bet they’re few and far between. I scanned briefly but didn’t see any.

The hypocrisy is what spurs people to bring these things up.

Less than ideal, but not surprising. It’s going to be like annual flu shot. They’ll have to adjust it to most prevalent or concerning strains as needed. Really looking forward to a good Tamiflu analog for therapy at home. That will be big step.

This is exactly what Big China Pharma had planned.  We'll be financially/medically dependent on them for decades!

It was an act of biological warfare!  Thankfully, we eased tensions by not reacting to an act of war.

Telling someone to “bring your take to cloak room you’ll do well there” is the funniest shit on this thread. A bunch of 5’7, balding nerds who spend their entire day talking politics are going to call me a dumb piece of shit?

What’s the debate going to be like anyways? Pretty sure nobody here is anti mask so there goes the big one.

We’re gonna go back and forth between higher up liberal leaders contradicting their own rules compared to Trump failing this from the word go.

Nobody's calling you a dumb piece of shit.  There are anti-maskers and Qanon disciples all over this website.  I for one, would love for them to have a safe-space (like on texags), so we could get it all out in the open.  Sure it would deeply disturb the parents of students & student-athletes considering attending the University of Texas but the idiotically insane need a place to be heard.  The worst contradictions, to your point, are the people who used to be like me who adopted the most vile piece of human shit to walk the earth as their false savior.

My wife did mention my hair appears to be thinning during our monthly outdoor haircut this morning.  But I'm 6-1, not 5-7, and maybe I'm a nerd...but promise you I fetched a piece of ass way beyond anything any Trumper I know.  You let me know you wanna take the Pepsi challenge.

Love the stock photo of what is probably an Ebola patient in transport. Good Lord. The fear mongering from the media will never stop.

That whole story was a mishmash of incomplete data and conjecture. It it is dealing with mostly hypotheses at this point.

We will need to know what the vaccine efficacy is against serious and severe Covid disease when the South African is present. And even if the efficacy drops to approximately 50%, then we are still looking at significantly reducing continuous spread if we can get vaccination rates between 80 and 90%. It would be also good to know what kind of disease presentation happens when somebody with the original Covid infection encounters a second infection with the South African variant.

At the hypothetical herd immunity point, maybe we can stop getting these escape variants in such high numbers.
