My main hospital is about 50/50 on getting the vaccine. There are some anti-vax and/or political objections, ofc, but most people (at least on my unit) against getting it just don't want to be the first to get it.

Welp, it finally happened. I snapped in public today. I went into work for a bit this morning because I’m trying to figure out the safest way to host physicians we are recruiting given our CV-19 sit

  • I don't really know what to say anymore tbh. What happened last night is hard to put into words for anyone who hasn't worked in a hospital healthcare setting. Just unreal. Everyone is getting fucked.

Back in June, I was supposed to play a wedding with my band.  Postponed until January.  I called up the guy who set up the gig, to ask if they were still going forward.  "Oh yeah.  You know the cut the guest down to a 150."  Mm-hmm.  In an enclosed space with 150 people I don't know at the height of the pandemic.  I think not.

It would be nice if they would narrow it down from "food, medicine or vaccine".  I have several severe food allergies (mostly nuts and seafood), but have never had an issue with vaccines.  I did have a reaction to a 2nd round of an antibiotic, which my doc said can happen.

If they don't clarify what compounds in the vaccine we should worry about, I guess I'll just strap up with an epi-pen and take the chance.

It sucks right, but we can always pull an Adrian Peterson.

Right? I had no idea how anti science our medical community apparently is

You know what's funny?  As a med sales person I bet I am not allowed back in your hospital without it.

Put the vaccine in Big Macs and McRibs and all the trumpers will get it within a week

The twist that he's also a sex criminal makes it even better.

Imagine refusing to take a vaccine based on what may be inside it, but shoving mcribs down your face hole with nary a moment of reflection.

No need for imagination.  You just described the perfect encapsulation of this:

Once the vaccine is generally available, employers will mandate vaccination as terms of continued employment (yes, it's legal). The same will happen at colleges, schools, and airlines, concerts.  The Jenny McCarthy crowd and Trumpers will have a choice to make. They have freedom not to take the vaccine, but businesses have the freedom to deny service to anyone that may endanger their business.

Lol, I don't even need to explain why that one won't work. These people are not only stupid, they are complete hypocrits. They'll claim persecution and the ex-president and his butt boys will be all over it on their new networks.

Seems like the usual American woman's thoughts on weddings to me.
Seriously. That shit changed my ex from a cool chick to an insuferable asshole. I should have heeded the warning and ran. Id have a lot more fucking money and less gray hair in my beard.
this is never going away, is it?

hoping hospitals will step in and say if you don't take the vaccine, you don't have a fucking job. who the fuck are these people????
I don't know about hospitals, but many larger companies like chemical plants are going to force compliance based on benefits as far as the law allows.
I was thinking about this yesterday and am glad I live in Travis County where I'm betting vaccine usage will be 80+%.  I'm betting Travis is able to open up before a lot of Texas.
I'm in western Travis County. Fuck load of anti vaxxer home schoolers. It's the People's Republic but still Texas not Berkley.

‘We want them infected,’ Trump HHS appointee said in email pushing to expose infants, kids and teens to Covid to reach ‘herd immunity’

A Trump appointee at the Department of Health and Human Services repeatedly pushed this summer to adopt a Covid-19 strategy in the U.S. that would keep businesses open while exposing “infants, kids, teens” and others to the coronavirus in an attempt to achieve so-called herd immunity, according to emails obtained by House lawmakers.

The emails surfaced as part of an investigation by the House coronavirus subcommittee into alleged political interference by the Trump administration. The probe came about after former HHS scientific advisor Paul Alexander and longtime Trump ally Michael Caputo were accused this summer of meddling with the work of career scientists at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s leading infectious disease specialist.

Alexander wrote in a July 4 email to Caputo and six other HHS communications officials that the U.S. needed to establish herd immunity by allowing “non-high risk groups expose themselves to the virus.

“Infants, kids, teens, young people, young adults, middle aged with no conditions etc. have zero to little risk....so we use them to develop herd...we want them infected....and recovered...with antibodies,” he wrote.

Alexander later brought the proposed strategy to Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Dr. Stephen Hahn, another email shows.

“It may be that it will be best if we open up and flood the zone and let the kids and young folk get infected as we acutely lock down the elderely and at risk folks” to get to “natural immunity…natural exposure,” he wrote on July 24 to Hahn, Caputo and other HHS officials. Caputo asked Alexander to look further into the idea, further emails show.

This one is a real head scratcher, in particular the line item regarding fear of getting covid from the vaccine.  None of the technologies being currently considered have any plausible way to result in COVID infection.  Not sure why only I and R are included, but the race break out is interesting.

I don’t understand why this is relevant. I’ve heard it a couple of times now. That was decades ago and it’s not like we are lining up only black people to first get this vaccine. What am I missing?

You don't understand what Black Americans being subjected to unethical medical research where treatment is withheld and informed consent is not obtained has to do with a perception of the American medical system among that community?

And we are precisely trying to line up at risk communities as priority after HCW and LTC.  There is a whole health equity dimension in the CDC ACIP framework.

I can't provide any insights beyond the biomedical ethics training I have received, using that situation as a case study for what not to fucking do.  Perhaps some of the African American posters can comment more specifically on what may be missing.

Yeah.....this.  I don't think non-black Americans can truly understand the deep cultural trauma of a series of horrific medical experiments, treatment, and lack of treatment inflicted on black people in this country.  That experience is woven into the black experience, and traumatic shit like that doesn't just go away.

Working to get past that is a big job for the American medical community.  And it's a job they need to get done.

Clearly I don't understand it and am certainly willing to learn.  I also come from a large medical family, so I probably have way more trust than most Americans to begin with.

Black peoples don’t trust whitey because black people got experimented on by whitey back in the day, and while we all would like to believe times have now changed and perhaps donald trump got elected President and Stephen Miller was an influential White House advisor.

I'll never understand how acknowledging the realities of a virus and now the willingness to take a vaccine has become politicized.

It continues to astound me how large a swath of the Republican Party has lost its fucking mind.

Add The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks to your reading list if you can. It only describes a part of the African American experience, but it opened my mind about the trust of which you speak.

The majors in Central Texas are rolling out full go starting Saturday. I'm guessing a few folks on this thread will be getting texts or emails letting them know how to schedule it tonight or tomorrow AM.

The Kansas story that was posted recently? Here is another one by the Associated Press that also mentions Kansas. The article focuses on the numbers of health department officials stepping down nationwide. The poor county health department administrator in Kansas lost her mother to COVID and the county still refused to make masks mandatory.

Here’s what I don’t get: the only time Trump has given his Twitter machine a break from RIGGED over the past month and a half has been when he’s tried to claim that he is solely responsible for the best, the fastest, the sweetest COVID vaccine EVAR.

If the vaccine is really a plot by Bill Gates, the ChiComs, Soros, and Colonel Sanders to microchip you and control your bodily fluids, then POTUS is an integral part of that scheme. The driver, to hear him tell it. So wtf, why are they still so far up the ass of this dude who’s perpetuating a BIG PHARMA SCAM.

It might serve others to be a bit circumspect, given the whole “we want them infected” thing secretly being advanced by this administration.

And Black Americans STILL have inequitable healthcare outcomes to this very day.

Black women are routinely treated less seriously by medical professionals and often downright ignored or accused of being malingerers. They also have much higher mortality and complications during pregnancy.

It’s not only an issue of horrific things from the past.

One reason opioids is pretty much a white people thing is that black patients weren't taken seriously by their doctors and a lot less likely to be prescribed drugs.

So are we all getting these cards when we get vaccinated?  Seems like a very easy thing to forge for the anti-vax or covid deniers.

I saw Clear is working on an App, but I wonder how they confirm you’ve gotten the vaccine? I hope someone is keeping a database. Like they enter your info when you receive it. I know that will freak out the freedom idiots but whatever.
