Donald Trump 2018

OK, I get that the racist right hated Obama just because he was black.  It was as simple as that.  I can't support their bigotry, but they owned it.

I am not going to feel bad for hating Trump just because he's a fucking moron.  It's reason enough.  The man cannot speak in anything that approaches a coherent sentence.  Forget that what he's TRYING to say is stupid, the WAY he goes about saying it is stupid.  The man is just not bright.  "We" elected this fool?  Oy.

He's dumber than Ronald Reagan and that's saying something.

Trump is the biggest pussy in the world.  He cant take any criticism to his face.

What a fucking bitch.

No wonder all the idiot keyboard warriors around here idolize him.  He is just like them.  Rant a ton of nonsense bullshit online, and when its time to get called out, hide away until the storm clears.

I don't think DOTUS has mentioned James Shaw Jr. in any tweets or otherwise.

And we all know why. In fact, knowing Trump like we do, we were able to accurately predict that he never would mention Shaw the morning after the shooting.

My understanding is that this is increasingly not true; the president is understood to be a electoral political asset for Democrats, provided that he continues to remain a mostly inept embarrassment, because his disgraceful failures both motivates Democrat voters and demotivate his own coalition. Mike Pence, on the other hand, is viewed as an adroit politician and reputational blank slate who projects decency and competence well. Pence could manage both roles, as: 1) healing unifier following a bitterly contested impeachment and trial and, 2) vehicle of backlash if the Democrats overreach, even during a successful impeachment, which is not a cinch even if they take the house, because a Senate Majority is unlikely let alone the kind of majority it would take to make 2/3 achievable.

The bottom line is that impeachment is less likely by the day unless the votes are clearly there in both the house and senate, and that would take a bipartisan consensus.

To be clear, there is a distinction between impeachment and removal from office.  I think the former is inevitable, I don't think that the Senate will vote for removal. Unless there is clear cut evidence of coordination with Russia, if that is shown all bets off.  If we are talking a borderline or even slam dunk obstruction case with comey at the center, the GOP will have enough cover to prevent the 2/3.

I read somewhere that if you look at republican senators that are not aligned with Trump currently the gap may be as small as six votes. In January it should be smaller than that.

It will take real evidence to get those last few votes for removal but it is not outside the realm of possibility.

Trump supporters have given up the right to be offended by anything. They're the ones that chose to live in the sewer. They don't get to complain when anyone throws shit at them.

I agree, but that's my point - absent a slam-dunk that forces bipartisan action for removal the Democrats would have two options:

1) Impeach and lose a trial, which demoralizes their coalition and potentially reverses momentum going into 2020 and risks 4 more years of this and a GOP senate or

2) Don't impeach, continue to build momentum through 2020, evict through the vote and take both houses of congress.

This could change because Democrats do stupid things constantly, but I don't hear much impeachment talk right now among Democrats. I hear a lot of talk about bench building and political victory at the local level going into 2018 and beyond.

Pelosi knows what she’s doing.  They are not going to campaign on impeachment and she has publicly said doing so would be a gift to the Republicans.

If dems take House they will impeach.  A trial in the Senate does nothing but hurt the GOP, even if the dems fail to remove Trump.  In fact, politically it would help Democrats if the Republicans vote not to remove based on the evidence that will be available when the time comes.  Hear me now believe me later on how damning a Senate trial would look.

If the Senate does remove Trump, the GOP base will be broken and demoralized since half of them are trumpkins.  The MAGA crowd will feel betrayed by the GOP for removing Trump. I’d expect to see the right break apart for 2020 with third party type vs GOP.  Another win for the democrats.

Personally, I think Trump resigns if he’s facing a trial in the Senate.  I base this on Trump’s personality.  He fears public humiliation more than anything.

He’s never had to stand and face the consequences for any of his mistakes or malfeasance.  He runs away every time just like he can’t attend the White House Correspondence dinner.

Pence will pardon Trump and Trump will still be politically active, grifting across the country selling hats and doing rallies because that’s what he loves anyway.

1.  We never met with Russians.

2.  Well maybe we did meet with Russians, but not operatives of the Russian Government and just about adoptions.

3.  Well maybe we did meet to talk about Russia providing our campaign Hillary dirt, but not operatives of the Russian Government.

4.  Sure, they were operatives of the Russian Government, but they are only admitted operatives now because I'm so tough on Russia.

This is a good point. They support a vile racist sexist shitheel who bangs porn stars while his wife is nursing his baby, watches hookers pee on beds, rips people off with a fake university, has declared bankruptcy seven times, brags about grabbing pussies because he can, calls Mexicans a bunch of rapists (they call that projection ladies and gentleman), rails against "Mexican" judges, stirs the racial pot with both side isms, falsely claims that Obama was born in Africa because well he's black, is strongly supported by the KKK, David Duke, and skinheads...

I could go on forever. The point is trumpkins can shove their faux taking offense straight up their ass.

I disagree.

Trump's brand promise is defeating and humiliating tribal enemies regardless of the cost, regardless of ethics, or anything else. Winning fights is his brand.  Midterm losses sufficient to lose the House in 2018 will wound and deflate the Trump coalition for that reason.

However, if the house impeaches and the Senate doesn't convict, Democratic enthusiasm collapses and the GOP is galvanized. If the Bill Clinton impeachment demonstrated anything, it's that impeachment must be a bipartisan process with broad bipartisan consensus. FWIW I think removing a president for the first time in our history is too serious to be undertaken on a one-party basis. But even if I didn't, it's just not smart politics in this situation.

If you can’t win it, don’t give the enemy the fight that he wants.

they should only impeach 1) after Mueller releases his report, and 2) if they actually have the votes to convict.

Which they won’t.  No matter what the Mueller report says.  The GOP has declared war against the rule of law and anything that’s actually good for the Republic, so don’t expect them to change their ways.

I’m a Republican - or was.  Anyways, I’ve seen the Democrats blow layup after layup in my lifetime.  If they overreach to impeach, it’s back to square one.

They have all the momentum.  Let Mueller do his thing and crush these midterms.  Do you really want Pence as President and this shitshow to grind to a halt with a solid economy?

No, you don’t.  Let this neutered fuckhead keep the pedal to the metal as he races the party off a cliff.

Let Mueller conduct the autopsy after the crash.

I would like to see a trial in the Senate but I don’t think Trump makes it that far.

I think you are presuming too much. The GOP is only working against the rule of law because it’s more politically favorable at the moment.  I honestly don’t think many Republicans feel good about hitching their wagon to Trump because it can all come crashing down at once.

I think you see Trumpism as a terminal disease while I look at it as a prolonged seasonal fever.

We laugh at Fox News because it’s basically State run media but I see America becoming a media run State.  My point is, public opinion among most of the trumpkins is easily manipulated, because they’re suckers, not necessarily bad people.

Great post. If mueller has him dead to rights on Russia I imagine the senate and house leaders from both parties will get together and present a united front to trump and whomever is representing him at that point and lay it out for him. I can’t imagine he chooses to go through the humiliation of being the first. President forcibly removed from office but with him you never know

It's amazing that Trump keeps touting the black/Hispanic unemployment rates like he had anything to do with them.  Trump is basically a 2nd string QB who comes into the game with 3:00 minutes in 4th after his team is already up 49-7, scores a touchdown, and wants the game ball and credit for winning the whole thing.  He inherited a sub 5% unemployment rate and less jobs were added to the U.S. economy in Trump's first year than any year going back half a decade.

And congrats to Kanye who has apparently joined a very exclusive club consisting of Clint Eastwood, Scott Baio, Ted Nugent, and Dennis Miller as the only entertainers who are allowed to have political opinions according to half of the country.

I'm like minded in that get past a 2018 election, with getting trounced, and have a Mueller report for cover the GOP may grow a backbone and send Trump packing.

Y’all are working in a world where Mueller is supposed to be some minster of truth and justice.

Let’s say Trump fired Mueller last June like he actually ordered done...What would you’re position be on impeachment now that there is no Mueller?

Point being, everyone seems to be ignoring what has been plainly visible to anyone with eyes and ears.  So much malfeasance has been swept under the rug by the media on all sides. Very few have a good comprehension of the egregious wrongdoing Trump has displayed while in office but in a trial atmosphere, everything comes back to the surface.  He’s broken laws and failed to uphold the law.  He has assaulted the constitution with reckless abandon and gone after private businesses, citizens, and journalists.

You don’t need Mueller to convince a jury that Trump should be removed as soon as possible.

I know your being pragmatic with banking on the Mueller findings but I’m working in a world where Mueller doesn’t exist.

If the fate of the republic rests of Mueller’s report alone, the republic isn’t worth saving.

If Mueller can't convince Congress that he should be removed or that he should resign, I'm fine with letting the voters decide what to do with him in 2020.
