So who should they have put in there with Page on it might get loud?

Arguably, there's no equivalent to Page for 1) authorship of iconic guitar lines, or 2) wide influence.

I understand that Jack White gave the filmmakers the low-tech, low-budget, low-fi approach to playing guitar, but I still had the "why is this guy in a documentary with Jimmy Page?" reaction.  A lot of his scenes and commentary felt kind of performative (like an affectation).

EVH could have represented the whole tapping, whammy-bar, master-of-the-fretboard genre that he pioneered.  Maybe he told the filmmakers "no?"

I understand the rap on Edge for being a 1-trick guy, but in that film he came off as a low-ego guy and a serious student of the instrument.  I suppose Knofler could have provided those things - plus he's pretty obviously a better all-around guitar player.

In the late 90's and early 00's I thought it was edgy to not like Radiohead because all my pretentious friends were gaga over them and how they were the only interesting band making music at the time.

But I've come to find out they were right. I go back and listen to The Bends and OK Computer a couple times a year.

I know you assholes along with the rest of the interweb have a hardon against these guys. I love this song and several from them, fuck everyone that's wrong and disagrees.

Best of days livin' a simple life
There's nowhere to go when
There's only one stop light
His grandmother told him don't
You dare sign up
They'll ship you away to places we
Ain't heard of
Get a degree, and maybe be a doctor
Just ask your daddy, it wont matter when they got ya
Lifetimes you could spend
To find out what she meant
Her final dying breath this is what
She said
Long gone is the praise for those who fought for us
Ashes to ashes turns out steel still rusts
Stone carved in your name no one can really trust
Shoulder another soldier they stole from us
Don't ever bend don't ever crawl
Supposed to stand, and never fall
Long gone is the praise for those who fought for us
Ashes to ashes turns out steel still rusts
Ashes to ashes and dust to dust
Steel still rusts
Ashes to ashes and dust to dust
A third of his life off in a foreign land
Thanks for your service, sincerely uncle sam
Lost the best of friends he'd ever known
And no line of welcome signs once he got back home
He got a job, a doorman at a dive bar
Became a bodyguard, protecting famous Rockstars
Lost count of the times he's been around the world
Promised Grandmama he'd never lose these words
Long gone is the praise for those who fought for us
Ashes to ashes turns out steel still rusts
Stone carved in your name no one can really trust
Shoulder another soldier they stole from us
Don't ever bend don't ever crawl
Supposed to stand, and never fall
Long gone is the praise for those who fought for us
Ashes to ashes turns out steel still rusts
Ashes to ashes and dust to dust
Steel still rusts
Ashes to ashes and dust to dust
Dust to dust
Forever feel the wounds that never heal
When fallen friends are now a line of crosses in a field
Long gone is the praise for those who fought for us
Ashes to ashes turns out steel still rusts
Stone carved in your name no one can really trust
Shoulder another soldier they stole from us
Don't ever bend don't ever crawl

Creed

Creed is a good half tier above Nickelback. Creed at least has some depth and grunginess to their stuff.

jmo but I'm listening to them side by side right now and Nickelback sucks significantly harder.

In case I haven't mentioned it, I'm not a fan of Led Zeppelin.

Robert Plant + Allison Krause > Robert Plant + Jimmy Page

Impressive. I do like them. In fact, by the time I was 14 I owned all their albums and listened to them non stop. I can’t remember the last time I have actively sought out Led Zeppelin to listen to. Sometimes comes up on shuffle, but most of the time I skip ‘em.

1 am in agreement with this. But LZ was a constant during a very harsh time in my life so it's always been the soundtrack of pain & misery to me. I can enjoy RP & AK or even the Honeydrippers, but not Zep.

I like some of their songs, but they're overrated.

Exhibit A - Robert Plant's solo career.

You think Robert Plant has a solo career without Jimmy Page?  To paraphrase the above post:

Robert Plant + Allison Krause = nothing

Robert Plant + Jimmy Page = One of the two or three greatest front men in the history of rock and roll.

I don't think Robert Plant has a solo career without Jimmy Page.  I was agreeing that Led Zeppelin, primarily Jimmy Page, allowed Robert Plant to have a solo career, as mediocre as it was, that he would not otherwise have had without the band.

I'm sitting at a car dealer, while the car is being serviced. Tom Petty "Free Falling" is playing. I can hardly put into words how much I fucking hate Tom Petty and his weak-ass voice, lame fuck Rickenbacker strumming, and his smirk.  I cannot fucking stand Tom Petty.   Can't get much unpopular-er than that.

I think you found the words.

But could be worse, you could say that Blink 182 are one of the top 25 bands of all time.

I can't name a Blink 182 song. They were popular at the time during which I never listened to the radio, MTV no longer showed videos, and I didn't have kids. I'm assuming it's some sort of Green Day-ish, pop-punk band?  I do have an inkling that their drummer is pretty good and has played in other bands?

Your assumptions are correct. Although Green Day was better/more interesting. But you and I are over 45. So we don’t get it (Nevermind the band is all over 45 too).

Anyways, fuck your opinion about Tom Petty haha. But I can see it. Kind of how people can’t stand Bob Dylan.

I love Tom Petty, but Free Falling is a lazy piece of shit. All the great ones have a couple, I guess.

Maybe it was because my first exposure to the song was his singing a duet with Axl on the 1989 VMAs, but if you were just the right age when that song hit, you got it.  Then it was played to death, the video sucked, and we end up with Tom Cruise singing it in Jerry Maguire.  But I'd never go so far as to call it lazy.  But suffice it to say, Tom Petty wrote a lot of songs I like better and which have aged better.

Also, the line, "All the vampires, walking through the valley, move west down Ventura Boulevard" kills.  But maybe it just reminded me of The Lost Boys and my then-recent trip to Santa Cruz.

Anyway, this shit caught my attention back in the day.  And it's HD if you squint.
