3rd times a charm...too bad Abbott already raided the HHS budget for his fake border games

Remember, Texas claims to be a Christian state that cares about small government and protecting children, unless a billionaire from Pennsylvania or a couple of rich religious fanatics say otherwise.

Texas claims to be a Christian state

Just dropped to offer a reminder: Texas is a Christian-fascist ruled state.

The rulers are Christians doing what Christians have done for centuries--when they have political power. Impose domination, pain, cruelty, misery, terror, and death upon women, POC, LGTQIA, and all who are not Christians or believers in their God. History is clear on that.

Let's not pretend otherwise. Time's up for Sunday School beliefs. Especially when women seeking reproductive care are fleeing for their lives and razor wire is at the Rio Grande.

Texas appeals $100K a day contempt fine

Quote

Lawyers for the state of Texas Tuesday appealed a $100,000 a day fine levied by a federal court.

Texas was found in contempt Monday by U.S. District Judge Janis Jack for violating two of the court's orders in its long running foster litigation.

Both court orders deal with the quality and expediency of state investigations of abuse and neglect claims.

Specifically, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) was fined over the performance of Provider Investigations — a unit charged with investigating abuse and neglect in facilities that house people with intellectual disabilities.

The state also asked for a stay in the case to avoid the accruing fines.

“[C]ontempt is unwarranted because at minimum defendants are in substantial compliance with the remedial orders in question, and that the Court improperly imposed criminal contempt without affording defendants the constitutionally required criminal process,” said attorneys for the state in a filing requesting the stay.

Jack denied the stay.

During a three-day contempt hearing late last year, the court heard a litany of investigative failures and bureaucratic backlogs in the department.

The contempt fines would have concluded when the state certified it was back in “substantial compliance” with the orders. It also required the state to file a raft of data on all Provider Investigations cases dealing with the foster kids covered by the trial. The data would have validated the claims of the state that investigations were back in compliance.

“Rather than certify safe and timely investigations of reports of child abuse and neglect, the state seems determined to avoid responsibility,” said Paul Yetter, attorney for current and former foster youth. “This appeal sends a terrible message to Texas children that state leadership just doesn’t care about their safety.”

The order will now be referred to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. This is the first appeal to that court since the state hired outside attorneys Gibson Dunn and Crutchfield.

Allyson Ho, who is leading the state's defense in the federal litigation, is married to a justice on the 5th circuit.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott was just named as one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time Magazine in their 2024 TIME100 list.

The news magazine cited Abbott’s zeal to give his politically conservative base cheers and progressives jeers through his actions on hot-button issues, such as diversity, gun control and the border. “During his nine years as the governor of Texas, he has proved adept at simultaneously throwing red meat to his conservative base while tempering pushback from the state’s liberal enclaves,” the magazine wrote.

Quote

“We have worked tirelessly to ensure Texas remains a beacon of freedom and opportunity for the entire world, and it is an honor to be recognized for all we have accomplished by being named as one of the most influential people in the world by TIME100,” Abbott said in a statement.

“From building the eighth-largest economy in the world to leading a historic border security mission amidst the most prolific border crisis our nation has ever seen, one thing remains clear: where Texas leads, others follow. I am proud of the work we have accomplished and look forward to building an even bigger, better Texas for generations to come.”

So we are headed towards a TikTok ban (I don't see the Chinese government giving it up).

Since Jeff Yass threw millions at Abbott, is he going to pressure Abbott to declare Texas a free TikTok state as a fuck you to Biden and Congress?  Will Abbott mandate that TikTok is installed on every device owned by the state of Texas?

Seems like a reasonable memo. Let's be reasonable people and allow for the reasonable protestations while letting those who want to ignore the commotion and simply go to school, do that.

I feel like Hartzell might be writing his own walking papers if he encourages or quietly allows another police showing like yesterday.

Hot Wheels has his back. Willing to bet he was exerting pressure to to do what happened yesterday.

Probably becuase the people, historically, who most often hate on israel don't think Jews have a right to exist. .

not exactly true and true anti Zionism isn't Holocaust 2.  This mistake , which you also have made, is BY FAR the most common misunderstanding on this topic.  At the core of this entire thing is Arab sovereignty vs. Jewish encroachment onto the native Arab population. This has evolved into a few other directions but anything else is a misunderstanding which Israel is happy to exploit.

Why is it that so many people disingenuously claim that criticizing a nation's government is equivalent to hating that whole nation and all of its people?

Maybe because a lot of people's lived experience in America since 2016 has been that (online, especially) if you support X and I hate X, then I also hate you the one who votes or supports X.

hating the entire state of Israel and all its people is STILL not anti-Semitism, not from the Arab point of view.  It's because they are not Arab, that's all.  People get the Holocaust in their brain and can't let go.

Listen dude, I peace'd out of the israel thread months ago for this reason. I'll address a couple points and I'll peace out of this one too, becuase I know where it ends. But before I start, I will say that Netanyahu is a war criminal and can fuck off and die, and Israel does plenty of shady shit. That being said:

1.) not exactly true and true anti Zionism isn't Holocaust 2 - It's pretty condescending to tell people they're misunderstanding a topic when you have no clue of their knowledge, AND your saying they're misunderstanding something and you're offering your own subjective opinion. "Not exactly true" is sort of the flip side of "not exactly wrong." And Anti Zionism isn't the Holocaust 2 mostly becuase Israel/America/Others haven't allowed it to become Holocaust 2...yet. There are massive amounts of people living in the immediate vicinity who don't believe Jews have a right to be alive, and one of them is Hamas. And it seems like every 10-15 years they all try to invade or do something horrible to Israel. But yes, I'm sure the peopel of Israel and Jews worldwide don't feel threatened, but if they do, yes, lets just assure them this is really a geographical encroachment situaiton, nothing more!

2) At the core of this entire thing is Arab sovereignty vs. Jewish encroachment onto the native Arab population - Such an amazing oversimplificaiton. Was the Jewish state created by displacing Arabs. Yes, absolutely. Was any CONTINUED "encroachment" on the Arab state becuase people wanted to fucking kill jews? Yes, Israel's advancement came at the cost of more Arab land...usually after those countries decaled war on Israel, invaded and then Israel whipped their ass and ended up with more land than they started. You could call that Arab bestowment of Arab lands as much as encroachment.

Edit: As an addendum to part 1, I'll add that Iran is a country that absolutely wants to eradicate Jews, and they have since the October attack ADMITTED that they pushed Hamas, who is their proxy, to attack becuase they feared that the Saudi's and soon others signing up to normalize relations with Israel would lower the temperature and hatred of Jews in the region. Another country literally meddling to prevent the hatred of jews subsidizing, becuase they fear it'll be harder to kill them in the future, but yes, Israel and Jews shouldn't feel threatened becuase it's just basic geopolitical maneuvering. right?

1. It's the biggest misundestanding BY FAR and you keep making the rookie mistake, but you are not alone, so find comfort in that. Oh my dear, it is ALL about geographic encroachment, not anti-semitism at all.

2. see#1 the continued encroachment is still the cause and in fact the 2 state solution is dead because the Jews don't want to fall back to "their" lands.

Many of you have to discard this idea of "Jew hatred" , "antisemitism". It's absolutely ZERO.

Let me dumb it down for you:  America did not fight Japan because of racial hatred of Asian people.  Make sense?

edit: just read your silliness about Iran. Did you know Iran still has a few thousand Jews, mostly inTehran? They could easily kill them all.

It's not about antisemitism my dude. Zero. I know it's very deep in people's head, i had that same error years ago, but gradually the epiphany will come.
