I swear to god this is what people mean when they say Democrats can't get out of their own way. One thing NOT lacking in the party is secular voices. What IS lacking is a voice that tells evangelicals that might be having issues reconciling the teachings of Christ with the political movement that's joined at the hip to their church that it's okay to vote for democrats.

This is flat out wrong and indicative that you are inattentive to races held primarily in African American communities.  In many of those, a religious element is deeply tied into the winning candidates rhetoric.

I’ll also point out that the evangelicals running away from the Democrats began in the 70’s and longer articles in The Atlantic and Politico (discussed here when they were published) link them to an anti-abortion movement that was truly an appeal to racial segregationists.

You’re not pulling these voters back in because you run a Talarico and he puts his faith front and center.

Anyway, my main point is it’s a big tent and ascribing a party wide disfunction is to neglect races in which it’s a major element and in which a Democrat uses their faith effectively.

Sorry for the Twitter link, but Talarico's feed on BlueSky is just a few months old and I remembered this particular press appearance from the election days.   He's reprised the "WWJD" argument several times since then.  I voted for Harris and his approach rubbed me the wrong way then, and still makes me uncomfortable.

Yes, like others, I see that as calling out the hypocrisy as opposed to demanding that real Christianity dictate the outcome.

As soon as he starts using Jesus or Christian arguments of a certain strain to support legislation, then I'm right with ya.

If the democrats weren’t such fucking cowards they would be out there promising that WHEN they return to power there will be consequences for foreign and domestic figures who aid the Trump regime. Nayib Bukele and every other foreign leader taking third country deportees should have known in no uncertain terms that if they disappeared people on Trump’s behalf their countries would be sanctioned, and it would simply be a matter of time. Tulsi and Stephen Miller should be afraid. ICE should be so scared they won’t even show their faces… oh wait.

Is anyone afraid of the democrats?

This.

I can’t find the interview to post, but Talarico was spitting fire Tuesday night on MSNBC. His quote- “The only minorities destroying America are the billionaires.”

Go read the sermon on the mount, considered the quintessential Jesus sermon on the gospel, I mean he just annihilates the gay, trannies, queers, all of them. Really hard to disagree with the Aggies here. Jesus hated him some mother fuckers.

Yeah. They interviewed him at an event in Plano that we attended. Over 1K attended and they had to do another event a block over for the overflow. That’s where MSNBC did the interview. He was good, clear and concise. Spoke with him briefly.

I and maybe thousands of others have had this exact quote written on a sign over the past few months. I think Texas Dems are starting to get with it. This is exhibit A.

Exhibit B is the Dems making a spectacle out of the upcoming redistricting hearings this Saturday.

Nothing to lose

So I talked to Chair Scudder today, and he is still willing to come take the slings and arrows you guys want to toss at the TDP.  I am figuring some night the week starting on 8/11.  Would hold a zoom where you all will get an invite link posted here and can attend incognito.  Would start at 8.  I just want you folks to let me know which night is best for you all.   I'm not sure how to do a poll in here, and think maybe you have to start a new thread, so I will just keep an informal tally from responses here.  Hardball questions are ok, but trolling is not.

It's stunning that America's "left-leaning" political party can't seem use stories like this to its advantage.

That's an interesting number...

I'm not sure "democratic party" isn't just fatally toxic as a brand at this point.

That happens when you stand for nothing people need to help them in their daily lives. GOP lite creeping towards GOP proper as a brand is showing itself as one of the worst ongoing product shifts ever. Think New Coke, but if they had just kept coming up with newer Cokes every couple years rather than getting back to what worked.

Fuck centrist feelings. Embrace what Mamdani stands for, which is policy innovation and/or experimentation for the people. Suck it up and take the good with the bad. Lord knows Trumpers have learned to do it.

We need a vibrant and organized opposition, not a Clinton/Obama wunderkind executing yet another delaying action against the slow march of the oligarchy as it pushes liberal democracy into the sea.

The assumption seems to be that people prefer a higher ceiling for a higher floor.

"The real way to get voters to like me and my party are to go on the nazi pedophile's show and tell him and his audience that they're right that actually it's Democratic base voters who are the real anti-Semites!"

This is how one of the party's supposed stars thinks.

People think I'm trying to be funny for internet points or "cool" or "edgy" when I say that the entire roster of party leaders needs to be fired and exiled. I'm not. It's not hyperbole. You cannot convince me that a worse group of people for the job exists.

This country needs more than two viable parties in the worst way.

Well, we've got the two worst, so what could another few hurt?

Agree. But we eat our own. We need to instead support (former) Democrats who for one reason or another disband. And when I say support I don’t mean vote or fund, but acknowledge a shift change and ideology difference and recognize that a defection from the big tent is actually a good thing. It’s good for Democrats who don’t need distraction and internal strife, it’s good for voters to have more options, and it’s good for democracy.

When Andrew Yang tried to spin off one, it gets met with the worst kind of derision and mockery and personal attacks to the man. The same man whom many were at least somewhat agreeable to when he was on the (D) team.

When Musk talks about creating a third party…. Okay, I’ll concede that point. You can’t decouple the disaster that is Elon Musk from his advocacy of a 3rd party and his scorn for pushing for a 3rd party was mostly warranted.

Centrists aren't real

Andrew Yang's ideas are as childish as Elon's, they're just not shitty and racist
