We are in total agreement for once. I sometimes read the Orangebloods board just to get a dose of the burnt orange version of this kind of lunacy.

Please...I can channel him

"Like Crawford. Great long speed. Need more tape. Can he turn the hips? MIght be a little 12 fit. Domio is built for SEC. The eagleford needs to drill some more wells or Bama is coming with the BBQ. Are we committed?"

Jeff Tarpley: Texas A&M's 2019 schedule: Best case scenario

Texas A&M has one of the toughest schedules in the country in 2019 as they play the consensus top three programs in the country...Clemson, Alabama, and Georgia...and also have to go to Baton Rouge to face LSU. It's a daunting task but despite losing seven players to the NFL draft the Aggies return a number of key starters and appear to have reloaded in the front four with SEC level size. Three of the game are on the road but unlike in previous years A&M is far better equipped to go on the road and win games with their running game, ability to stop the run, and a time of possession advantage that tends to keep games close and gives them their best chance to win.

In that vein, here's a look at the Aggies' 2019 schedule in terms of which games are winnable on the surface and their best chances to steal games from some of the top programs in the country in some hostile environments.

THREE GIMMES
August 29 - Vs Texas State

September 14 - Vs Lamar

November 2 - Vs UTSA

These three games against FCS or Group of 5 opponents are strategically designed to give A&M a break going into or coming out of their toughest contests of the season. For example, the Texas State game is about nine days before the Clemson game and gives the Aggies a pre season contest and two extra days to prep for the Tigers. The Lamar contest is after the Clemson game and the UTSA game (combined with an open date the week after) will provide A&M with time to deal with a closing three game stretch of South Carolina, Georgia, and LSU.

SEPTEMBER 7 - AT CLEMSON

The Aggies lost seven NFL Draft but the Tigers lost even more....everyone in the front four which included three first round selections and two of their best offensive linemen including tackle Mitch Hyatt. The A&M team that nearly took Clemson to overtime in the early part of the 2018 season slowed down the Tigers in the running game for the most part and controlled the clock which wore their pass rush and back seven defenders and enabled A&M to mount their come from behind assault.

The biggest discrepancy between the two teams (which reared its ugly head last season) was the difference in team speed....Clemson was able to generate a number of explosive plays via runs after catch and coverage/tackling issues. If the Aggies can fix this issue, they may have the better run blocking offensive line and defend RPOs very well for the most part. Clemson may still be trying to adjust to losing so much talent on defense and if A&M can control the game like they most games last season, they could again be in position to steal one from the defending national champions.

Oh, and Clemson opens versus Georgia Tech and plays Syracuse the week after so their seasoning opening stretch is much different than that of the Aggies.

SEPTEMBER 21 - VS AUBURN

This is a make or break year for Gus Malzahn and he's taken charge of the offense which means a return to the Wing T type motion and misdirection of his earlier years at the school. The Aggies and defensive coordinator Mike Elko actually defended that part of the Tigers' attack really well...it was their inability to cover or rush the passer when Auburn spread the field in the passing game that did them in. Not only that, A&M turned the ball over which opened the door for Auburn to stage a furious comeback with two touchdowns in their last seven snaps. The Aggies ran the ball well and they should be able to repeat the best aspects of the 2018 game without the three turnovers and pull out a win.

SEPTEMBER 28 - ARKANSAS

The Hogs will have three people with A&M ties perhaps playing major roles in the game....former student Chad Morris as head coach, former A&M defensive coordinator John Chavis, and former A&M quarterback Nick Starkel. However, as Arkansas' recruiting and team speed declined under Bret Bielema, their ability to make enough big plays declined as well. They'll play A&M tough since it's early in the season but the Aggies have the running game and defense to control the game and come away with a win (although it probably won't be pretty).

OCTOBER 12 - VS ALABAMA

The Aggies' loss at Alabama last season was a product of the same issues that plagued them versus Clemson...Alabama's skill people were faster and generated a lot of yardage after the catch...and preparation (the Tide did a great job of finding the best matchups and schemes to benefit them). This season, A&M has a bye week and while those things didn't tend to matter much under Kevin Sumlin it's probably going to be a different story under Jimbo Fisher (although the Tide is off the week before as well). With a running game and defense, A&M has made Kyle Field a difficult place to play again (and the Aggies have generally played the Tide far better at home in this series than in Tuscaloosa).

As with Clemson, A&M has to avoid giving up the big plays on defense that killed them versus the Tide but they also have to avoid the costly turnovers that betrayed them in the Alabama and Auburn games. If A&M can do so, this becomes a game that the Aggies can win and use to signal that the perceived shift in the balance of power to a more balanced SEC West is underway.

OCTOBER 19 - AT OLE MISS

The Rebels always seem to play A&M tough but they don't run the ball very well and they have one of the worst run defenses in the SEC. That's usually not a very good combination. The Aggies will have to avoid a letdown the week after playing Alabama but they should be able to do so (although it will probably be closer than most people think).

OCTOBER 26 - VS MISSISSIPPI STATE

The Bulldogs lost a lot off of their 2018 team including Aggie killer Nick Fitzgerald at quarterback and two first round draft picks on defense. However, Mississippi State always seems to have athletes via the overlooked small towns of the southeast and the junior college ranks. As usual, they'll be big in the trenches on both sides of the ball. However, quarterback Keytaon Thompson isn't Fitzgerald and the Aggies will be able to match or exceed the Bulldogs in the trenches. This probably won't be an easy game but it should be one in which the Aggies find a way to win.

NOVEMBER 16 - VS SOUTH CAROLINA

South Carolina always seems to take the Aggies into the last two minutes of the game but they haven't beaten them since the two programs became cross division rivals in 2014. That trend is almost assuredly going to continue in 2019 given the increasing disparity in talent between the Aggies and Gamecocks in terms of recruiting. The Gamecocks can't run the ball or stop the run and that's not a winning formula when facing a A&M that does both well.

NOVEMBER 23 - AT GEORGIA
If A&M finds a way to beat Alabama and Clemson, it's a good bet that they come into this game unbeaten and the favorite to emerge from the SEC West for the playoffs. Interestingly enough, this is a game that everyone is pointing to as the one game that the Aggies can take from the big four contests. Their biggest issue may be their own schedule...they get Notre Dame at home early and then Auburn the week before the Aggies....but this is a team that has played Alabama tougher than anyone else except Clemson the past two years because of their physicality and speed. It's always tough to win on the road in the SEC and overall A&M may be a year away from taking a game like this.

NOVEMBER 30 - LSU
The Tigers will be looking for payback after their seven overtime loss to the Aggies last season. This was a game that A&M controlled during the first half but came extremely close to losing. The Tigers weren't as good in 2018 at running the ball or stopping the run as they had been in previous years and A&M may do both better in 2019 (they certainly did last season). In addition, LSU was a mentally tougher team and found ways to win games last year that they would have lost in previous campaigns. Also, this game is on the road and even A&M's best teams in the 1980's and 1990's found it extremely hard to take down the Tigers in Baton Rouge (really, the only team that's won there consistently over the years is Alabama). 2019 may be too tough to ask for.

Overall, it may seem tougher to beat Clemson and Alabama than Georgia and LSU but Clemson will still be trying to adjust to their losses from last year and Fisher will be targeting the Alabama game as a way to turn the tide in the SEC West (pun intended). The Aggies did get better as the season went on in 2018 and they may well do the same in 2019 but again it's hard to win on the road in the SEC. They're going to have to replicate the 2018 formula and in particular on the injury front.

Even so, splitting those four games and finishing 10-2 is about as much as anyone can ask for. If the Aggies can do so, they'll make a New Year's Six bowl game and set themselves up for a big run in 2020 that should include mentions for a national title given an easier schedule, the number of returnees, and the quality of the recruiting classes they'll be bringing on board.

I like how he conveniently overlooked the fact that Trevor Lawrence barely played in their game last year. I'm sure he won't have much impact in this game.

Breaking news only to Aggy:: Chibuzo moves to OG Via HammLite ::

After I watched him last year vs. Foster, I was pretty convinced he was going to be a guard. He has now switched to that for his high school team as well. He is also talking about scheduling some official visits coming up. He mentioned A&M and UGA as two of them. He does not have as many options as Aki had, though.

Exactly.  Nobody does cognitive dissonance and dishonest spin like aggy.  Guess they didn't watch Lawrence shred Bama in the last game he played.  Yep, he's ripe for the picking.  9_9

"The A&M team that nearly took Clemson to overtime..."  Hahahahaha.

You're one year off but still accurate. It should read
2018 aggy: We got jumbo! Sitting. National. Champ. Corch. Birch.
2019 aggy: Tsips had to get thier best players out of state. We own this state. [Rankings don't mean shit unless it's from Sakarin's or ESPN.]
2020 aggy: We are taking our recruiting nationwide. Jimbo knows what he's doing. Also not a lot of good players in the state of Texas this year. Herman can have them.

I love how Tarp minimizes the affect of losing their 2 best offensive weapons and almost their entire front 7 on defense. Sure none of those guys were actually taken high in the draft unlike the Clemson players, but they were still the best players aggy had and their replacements, unlike Clemson's, are not that level. Clemson may have lost a lot on defense, but their offense returns every weapon that made Bama look stupid a few months ago.

Playing guard for your high school team isn't a good sign unless you play for a loaded OL like Katy Taylor, even if you're a future interior guy

They also lost their best (and probably only good) offensive lineman

Please also note the assumption there will be zero drop off in the run game, after putting their feature back in the NFL.  New guy doesn’t have any snaps, but fuck it, I’m certain he’s as good (hell prolly better) than the upperclassman he’s replacing. Idiots.  The lot of them.

I like the commits and offers for OOS DL by aggy. Maybe they’re seeing the writing on the wall: Trying to beat the real OG in recruiting is futile.

Pretty sure one of the starting DT's for Clemson this year played lots of minutes in the playoff games once Dexter Lawrence was suspended.  And Xavier Thomas at DE wont be much of a dropoff.

There is a kind of weird pathology that many sports fanbases fall into of thinking that the next season will represent progress from the previous season. Even though there is often no reason at all to think that just because it was close last year that this season we are going to burst through. It does not work that way most of the time. Especially when you just lost a ton of draft picks.

Looch says all Texas D1 college coaches need to use extortion- errr, 'band together and create a recruiting wall around the state', even Tom Herman at mean ol tay yew. To the point that they should pressure Texas HS coaches and recruits with, "if you leave the state... the chances of you landing a job here are a hell of a lot tougher."

The duo discuss the preseason Heisman odds, and you'll be absolutely shocked which QB Looch thinks is too low and is too high. He used examples like Bama, Lincoln Riley, and LSU, that they need to be told to kick rocks by HS coaches if they try to recruit a kid. Also, if a kid doesn't pick aggy, they should be pushed to go to another Texas D1 school.

You know damn well it would be a cold day in hell if an aggy told a recruit that shunned them to pick the Longhorns over the Sooners.

Part 1:

Mod: We'll start with the Diggs commitment. We're start with the major out of state commitment for Jimbo. Fadil Diggs defenisve end, edge rusher from New Jersey.

Looch: A lot of people were asking me since this weekend, where he'd rank instate. That's what we always do with these out of state guys. I think it's a good question because everyone follows the in state rankings so much. Just off the national rankings, he'd be the number 1 d-lineman in the state this year. The real focus would be where would he rank as a d-end.  I'd think he'd be up there, right there with or above Collins and Broughton. And A&M wants those two. You're going to have to take more than one end. This year and pretty much every year in this conference. Rare, the day will come when A&M will look at at class and say we'd just need one defensive end. Let me know when that happens. Sometimes by default maybe. But Diggs is that type of guy. Ohio State and Penn State made a pretty furious push down the stretch. They were the ones who were trying desperately to get him to not pick A&M and to put that decision off if he wasn't going to be them. And buy some more time. I know it's a Jersey kid and it's a long time for A&M to hold on to and I agree with that. But here's the thing. Diggs was not a come to campus and get blown away by the stadium and facilities and go home and commit. Diggs, this has been a long time coming. He's loved A&M since his first visit. He's put a lot of thought into. He's been close for a  long time. This has been a long time coming. You've got Mike Elko and Elijah Robinson with extensive recruiting ties in that area and that's pretty much how this thing originally came about. I think this is going to be, He's going to be kind of a cornerstone piece. As far as in the state of Texas. You plop him at, and it doesn't even have to be a Katy or Allen, or Desoto or something like, you put him in Cypress or Sugar Land. I mean McKinney, any suburb in any big city in the state of Texas. This kid's easily a top 10 player in the state if not, you know he's between 5 and 10. He's that good. He's that highly recruited. Physically he's that good. He's long. He's a pass rusher. Heck, He looks just as good at TE. he's a pass rusher off the edge. He's got, I think he's got a great first step and can chase. You watch him and you see an instinctive guy. I think he's a, he's a better prospect than Tyree Johnson was coming out of the northeast a couple years ago, and I really liked him, and he's turned out, and he looks like he's going to be a player up front in the SEC.  I think Diggs is a better prospect at the same age. Actually I don't think, I know it.

(Mod: discusses how most of his highlights are at TE. Looch talks about DE, blah blah. Alfred Collins might rank at the top of the list, I don't think he's quite there as far as Diggs is, ,blah. )

Looch: Will he help with Isaiah Raikes inside? Definitely he's going to help, no question, but will that be enough to get him with Ohio State and Penn State right there.  I like Elijah Robinson's chances with that one too. Raikes is a particularly important. You look around the state of Texas this year, and find me a defensive tackle. You find me a D-Tackle that can play. I like Princely Umanmielen. He's a Kingsley Keke type that can, kind of like a Max Wright type that can project either way. As far as pure inside guys, there is a dearth of interior D-Line prospects in the state of Texas this year. There's none right now that A&M would take a commitment from right now.  There's virtually none you're going to see scattered about even in the Big 12. It's probably the weakest position in the class right now. And then when you get those great ones out of state throughout the southeast. You talk about the hardest ones to recruit. That's why getting Derrick Hunter was such a coup last year for the Aggies. Because you have go through Florida, Florida State, Miami, Clemson, Georgia, Auburn, LSU. It's murderous row to find a capable SEC 300 pounder coming out of high school that can play. When they're not any in Texas, that's a big blow. You've identified Raikes, you're going to be one of his finalists, so it would be a huge get to go ahead and finish that off.

Part 2...later

Part 2

1:56:00 rant

Looch: Kind of like that whole philosophy Gabe about in state kids leaving state. I'm of the opinion. I would love to see in football. Jimbo Fisher. With new coaches now at Texas A&M. At Texas. At Texas Tech. At Baylor. At UH. You've got guys like Gary Patterson. Jimbo Fisher. Tom Herman. Dana Holgerson. These guys are big names in the sport. You've got a new coach that is very respected in Wells over there. Matt Rhule coaches in the state. Love Matt Rhule. And I don't think this would be the craziest thing and maybe it would be like the first guy to do it would be like Jerry McGuire holding up the fish, and saying who's coming with me, and everyone is standing there, kind of like, we'd love to, but... it's like...I think they should all band together and crucify these out of state schools. When Jeff Banks wants to come in here and recruit...run him out of the state. It doesn't matter that you're at Bama. When someone wants to come in from LSU...run them out of the state. When Grinch and Lincoln Riley and his blinking ass cool twitter thing..run his ass out of Texas. You're not going to do that, but on some level they need to...Dabo Swinney...get your ass out of here.  You've got to come in, and you're not going to do it, but if they guys literally sat down and...It sounds crazy. It's like Game of Thrones...spoiler alert, if you haven't watched this season, tune out now, there you go. But it's like all those armies band together to go fight a common enemy and they would have never defeated them without banding together. Go and make it almost like a shameful thing to turn your back on this state. Band together and make every coach say, if you're not going to come here, stay in state. Make Texas Football great again. And I don't mean Texas Longhorns. I mean in the state, there's no reason why these teams shouldn't be more powerful than they are.  The easy thing to do if you're A&M is to say we can do it on our own, we're almost there. If you're Texas you say look at the last two recruiting classes, we can do it on our own. These schools are benefitting way too much, coming into the state of Texas and cherry picking talent the way they do. Nick Saban, Dabo, Lincoln Riley, Kirby Smart

Mod: Basketball too

Looch: It's a little harder in basketball though because they're going to these schools in some instances for a year or two. Maybe if the one and done changes...Sit there and say, point out to them, not as individual schools, but the only thing they hear from everywhere from Lubbock to Waco to College Station to Austin to Fort Worth and everywhere in between, that if you leave the state, the chances of getting a job are a hell of a lot harder than they are in state. Hit them with the travel stuff, all the stuff that the individual schools do, but just kind of band together with a common message. And also hammer it into these high school coaches. Hey you, Gabe Bock, we know what your doing. We're come into your school, we're sitting there recruiting the hell out of your kids, and you're sitting there listening to us but you're not hearing us because you're in LSU"s hip pocket and we know it. Enough of that crap, it's over. Like...The coaches that are sending these guys to Norman Oklahoma in droves from high school. You shouldn't be coaching in this state.  If you're influencing the process and sending guys that way. High School coaches you don't want us dealing with the trainers and the 7 on 7 coaches and stuff, have our backs. Help us to keep these kids in state. You want to come to these campuses in state but yet here's the list,  here's all the guys the last couple year, here's where they are going to school. You send them all out of state, but you want to be able to come to campus and come to our games, and..no, but one school can't do that. If one school tried to do that, they'd fall way behind the others and they would be Jerry McGuire. You'd be chasing Rod Tidwell. Rod Tidwell is not enough to win an SEC or even a Big 12 championship.  Tidwell could maybe compete for the Big 12, but not the SEC. If one school stood up and did that, they'd be ostracized, but if all of them did. Never gonna happen. Just something I was thinking when I was just looking at the out of state commit list and it's shameful. It really is.

2:05:00 back and forth

Mod: Okay Looch, a couple minutes left here, and I'm looking at the Vegas Heisman trophy odds. It's interesting enough, they got a Kellen Mond's in it but but he's tied for 10th among quarterbacks at 50-1'

Tua's number 1 overall  at 5-1, followed by Lawrence at 7-2

Looch: That's fine. I'd flip flop them.

Mod: Now tied for 3 among quarterbacks.

Looch: Don't say it.

Mod: Justin Fields

Looch: That's ridiculous. Okay, go ahead.

Mod: Jalen Hurts

Looch: He is in an offense where they've plugged in guys in year one, that have, not even year one, at times in the middle of seasons.

Mod: Fields over Monds at 8-1. Mond's 50-1

Looch: I'm not worried about Mond per se yet. Let's keep going. Jalen Hurts...I don't expect to be in that conversation when all's said and done. I think 2 in a row's incredible for OU.

Mod:  He can blitz a weak league though on the ground

Looch: On the ground yes. Will OU be as adept at that. I think Lincoln Riley can adjust. I don't think Jalen Hurts can throw. I don't think OU will go undefeated with him. I don't think they will reach the playoff.

Mod: I'm going to give you the full picture and let you go where you think. Adrian Martinez of Nebraska tied with those guys tied 3rd among quarterbacks at 8-1

Looch: They're not going to be good enough, get him out of there.

Mod: I agree. Ehlinger and Fromm are tied for 6th among quarterbacks at 20-1. And then Herbert who I thought was very low, Alone at 8th at 25-1.

Looch: Yeah

Mod: Shea Patterson 9th at 40-1

Looch: Nope

Mod: Then JT Daniels and Kellen Mond tied 10th among quarterbacks at 50 to 1. Who's too high? Who's too low?

Looch: I think Kellen's too low. I'm not lobbying for him to be in the top 3. I'd probably move, who's number 3?

Mod: Tied for 3 is Fields, Hurts,

Looch: I'd probably move Herbert up there to 3. And not just because he's a draft prospect, because he's in a offense, he's going to put up a lot of numbers, because he's in a laughably bad conference in terms of defense.

Mod: Then it's Ehlinger and Fromm at 20-1

Mod: I don't mind Ehlinger being down there where he is. I've seen some that have him way too high.  He shouldn't be in the Heisman conversation. And if you're out there where he's at, then that's not, that's not putting him in the conversation. I'm not saying Kellen Mond should be in the conversation.  I think you put he and Ehlinger and Fromm in the same general area and I wouldn't have an issue with that. I think what Ehlinger does is impressive in terms of the way he wins. I think people have also forgotten. What he did to Georgia in that bowl game. Uhh...our boy at LSU, Joe Burrow did to Georgia a few weeks earlier. Um, I think people forget from happened with Maryland. They forget what happened at the end of games. They forget what happened a couple weeks earlier against OU. They forget what happened, they forget what happened a couple a week earlier than that at Kansas. He threw a pick in the red zone and should of thrown a pick 6 that was dropped. They barely beat KU. They forget what happened in Lubbock where he got out-dueled by Tech's like third string quarterback down the stretch but Tech kind of just ran out of time there. The interception he threw against Tech that almost cost them the game. You forget that he got outplayed by Oklahoma State's journeyman quarterback last year. These are all last season. Then you can go back the season before, I'll even throw that out. But we've got a fanbase, or my friends that I talk to everyday, argue with. The first thing they'll do is bring up Mond throwing a pick against Auburn where the head coach himself said put that on the WR, but even if you want to put it on the quarterback and that's fine, that's one thing and they'll take. I know it's not the only mistake. My point is...they'll look at Ehlinger against Georgia and they'll throw out Kellen against Clemson or LSU, well his receivers made great plays and bailed him out. I take it they've never seen the Texas Longhorns play and seen what L'Jordan Humphrey and Collin Johnson do on those jump balls and those lob ups. You know me. It's my biggest pet peeve. It's baffling to me the scrutiny that A&M fans will put on their own while rushing to heap praise on others. It's the same thing with Fromm. Look at how he ended his season compared to how Kellen ended his.  I think those three guys in particular should be grouped together and I think they should be maybe in that 5 to 10 range, maybe all three of them.

They join the SEC to get out of the shadow of big brother and face stiffer competition, then they want big brother's help keeping the SEC out of Texas because the competition is too tough for recruits.  Get the fuck out of here with that weak-ass hypocritical aggy bullshit, you blowhard cunts.  You asked for it, you got it.

Reap it, bitches.

This is really not so crazy as this is ag culture, blindly follow or boycott. This idiots school caused the problem they have, stealing money does not make it a smart move.
