That was exactly my concern and still is. People are watching Trump, but are missing that every drama has an understudy for the protagonist.

Daniel Dale said the crying patriot in the airport video was mad about being forced to wear a mask, not being on the no-fly list. Said the original Tik Tok post was about a mask. Probably true because I don't think he'd be all the way to the gate and still walking around freely if he was on a no-fly list.

that might be bullshit...

*also, It seems a bit odd to call somebody who won’t pull the mask up from their chin to their nose a “terrorist”

At least with Barry, you have a chance at getting the right Four Seasons.

But as somebody pointed out when I pondered on another thread how is it that a guy who has worked in New York real estate for 50 years and is now President of the United States has the absolutely much comically incompetent crew of personal and campaign attorneys?  I guess you get what you pay for, and he doesn't pay his legal bills, and as such is stuck with this rag-tag crew of unethical, soon-to-be-disbarred morons.  It's like they're trying to find new and interesting ways to fuck up.

I imagine most conversations in this genre go as follows:  "Well Donnie my boy, I'm so flattered that you considered me.  Wow, to be even considered as an attorney for President.  Such an honor.  But you know that impeachment, sedition and the like are so far outside my core competency that I'd feel I was just doing you a disservice by signing on. It might even be a breach of my ethical duties to let you retain me.  You may want to consider calling [insert list of attorney known to be incompetent assholes here] about this.  I'm sure any one of them would love to consider it.  Best of luck keeping yourself from hanging at the end of a rope."  <hangs up phone> "You traitorous piece of shit."

It's probably hard enough to find business attorneys to represent him on business stuff.  One of them, Kasowitz, is probably a bigger asshole than he is and they have some kind of mutually assured destruction pact that insures that Kasowitz gets paid and Trump gets represented.

There's really only a handful of top election/political lawyers in the country.  They wouldn't touch this shit with a 10 foot pole because it has no basis in fact or law.  So he was stuck with dumbshits angling for some kind of publicity or notoriety or just too plain stupid and blinded not to put their professional reputation on the line.

Yes, but like all good mob bosses, I'm sure there wont be a record of him ordering the capitol police to take the day off, not have riot gear, gas, rubber bullets, etc.  Whoever made that decision formally is someone that is going to take a very big fall.  Hope the wink and nod from Trump before hand was worth it, because whoever it is will join the pile of believer's bodies Trump leaves in his wake.

In the "just asking questions" realm of things:

From what we have seen of the capital invaders thus far, how might these executions have gone down?

I have seen pointy flags, zip ties, various sprays, and some other club like weapons.  Additionally, I have heard some reports of  long guns and concealed weapons.

So what weapons do we actually know these guys had or have reasonable suspicion of them having?

I mean we don't actually think they were going to be hung on the grounds, trampled to death, or beaten to death.  Additionally we don't have any reports of Capital police being disarmed  and their firearms being used for intimidation or other purposes.

I want to be as correct as possible when having to explain this, so I need a little clarification on the means and the actual armament.  Thanks.

The article about Sund says it was Senate security and the Sergeant at Arms that initially rebuffed his cries for help.

So it appears that entity may have been compromised through McConnell or some other Senators or committee.

Trump put out tweets explicitly calling for his loser followers to swarm DC on January 6. He gave a fascist call-to-arms speech whipping the mob he summoned into a frenzy and imploring them to storm the Capitol. When they did what he asked them to do, he and his toadies refused requests for military protection of Congress and Trump called congressmen to extort them while their lives were in danger.

I would add, and this is still so fucking bonkers five days later, that while they were still there storming the capitol, he told them that they are very special and that he loves them.

And y’all are sitting here wondering if we’ll ever get to the bottom of the impenetrable mystery of The Crazy Capitol Caper. Good lord.

Trump was literally the conductor of a massive criminal conspiracy to overthrow the government.  He orchestrated in broad daylight.

No.  I was asking a serious question.  What does this look like if those nuts got there 5,10, 15 minutes before they actually did?  And what weaponry did they actually have or we think they had?

Not to be morbid, but Pelosi is an 80 year old woman. She wouldn't have made it.

Have you checked the social media feeds of these people? Perhaps that would give a clue to their objectives.

If you are planning on "arresting" Nancy Pelosi, and putting her on summary "trial" for treason, and then executing her....what do you need?

Muscle to grab her.  Stuff to restrain her when captured (zip ties).  And something to execute her with -- a blade, a gun, a rope.  Once you have her in custody, you don't exactly need a sniper rifle.  And, you know, you could just actually listen to and read what the plotters were actually saying about arresting, trying, and executing these "traitors."  That's ummm, pretty good evidence.

I am not on social media at all, except for the surl.

I am aware of their objectives.

I am just looking for confirmation of what weaponry they had and possibly some conjecture about how this might have gone down.

Grab them.  Zip tie them to a chair, hands bound.  Quick show trial.  Slit their throat.

You know, how this shit goes down in Saudi Arabia and shit.

Yes.  I agree they needed nothing more than what you listed as things went.  But what does this look like if the chambers were not cleared?  I assume there would have been some armed security hanging around which would not have stopped a mob, but made things more complicated.

I mean are we assuming that a some portion of these invaders had some sort of concealed hand gun?

Yes. And they outnumbered the actual security as well. That they had a cache of weapons not too far away in a truck (discovered after the fact) means that once they killed a few people or grabbed hostages, it was going to get bad.

It was discussed tangentially here in the thread about the ballots.

Numerous individual house members were simply hiding in their offices.  Only senior leadership was taken to a safe location.  Some were separated from the mob by nothign but a single door and luck.

It's going to get worse. The more desperate they get, the more extreme they'll become until we all just have to admit that they are no different than any other terrorist group.

Unfortunately, “terrorist group” severely understates the danger the far right poses to the United States. This isn’t some small, shadowy group of villains who will set off occasional bombs in public zones and never gain support from more than a tiny segment of the population.

“Insurrectionists” is a more accurate term. The threat is a legit civil war or authoritarian takeover, not merely periodic spectacular violence.

I just don't want to overstate the weaponry and I thought we could explore a few "what ifs".  I realize, at this point, we don't have all of the minute details, but I really thought there would have been more conjecture about this on this board.

Yes, there is. Don't you, too, like to refer to the neighbor who seems abnormally preoccupied with lighting structures on fire with people inside as a BBQ specialist?

Call it arson cause that's what it is--punishment for arson is 'X'

Call it sedition cause that's what it is--punishment for sedition is 'X'

i gotta say, not having to read trump's tweets daily is pretty damn refreshing. it's just sad people had to die before twitter did the right thing and took away his microphone.

speaking of...has he dropped in on fox news since the banning? if not, i have to assume even they aren't going to give him a podium to continue the insurrection. everybody is in CYA mode.

Oh, and they were expressly and vocally hunting for staffers - again, there are recordings made in real time.

At least some of these folks were in a murderous frenzy.  Would they have been murderous if you visited with one of them one-on-one at Denny's?  Maybe not.  But they absolutely got worked up into a fervor and - most importantly - premeditated violence and murder because they brought the tools with them to do so.  They didn't bring zip ties to repair a loose door handle of their old Buick.

The use of the term zip ties makes me laugh. I keep zip ties in my tool box, in my jeep and in my field gear. they are quite handy. But what these fuck sticks had are called Flex Cuffs. They have 1 purpose. To hold a human. And you can buy them on Amazon.
