No doubt in my mind that a McConnell guilty vote could have swung 9 more.

Probably brings Portman, Thune, maybe Cornyn and Blunt with him. Shelby and Grassley maybe as they are retiring.

The thing I hate most is that impending retirement is likely all that several of these asshats needed to vote guilty.  Fuck the Republican party.

The message needs to be hammered -- 57-43 guilty of inciting insurrection.  Of course, I don't expect the Dems to message this any better than anything else they've bumblefucked over the past 4 years.

sad that 57-43 seems like progress.

sigh.

The Republicans who were free to vote their conscience without fear of a primary attack voted to convict. The rest are cowards to whom re-election means more than our country’s future.

Than is a sad indictment of the state of American politics. The GOP has no leaders in Congress, only shameless exploiters.

He did. No balls on Rob. 2 of the 4 retirements voted to acquit (Shelby)

No surprise. He’s a piece of shit. I’d love to see Dr. Amy Acton run as a Democrat and take his seat. I’ve only heard one news report that said she could run as a Dem and none that said she’d run at all, only some speculating that she might. But I’d be down with that. She did a great job leading Ohio’s early response to the pandemic. She believes in science, is a good communicator, and is easy on the eyes.

So, can't file charges against a sitting president that can rig elections, stoke insurrection, and real life government coups involving deaths are fine.   Wonder what silly ass shit Republicans will attempt against Democrats?  Morality charges again? Socialism accusations?  Ongoing fishing expeditions with bogus charges until something is discovered or built enough to become almost real?  Do they even need anything real since they have propaganda networks?  Will Republicans kill off the olds and still win?

What is Mitch doing now? He is excoriating the man he would not convict and knew was guilty. He would not hold this trial until he was out of office and then uses that as the excuse to not convict. What in the actual fuck? Fuck you, Mitch. Whatever you bullshit its now, you didn't do your fucking job when you should have.

McConnell now going in on Trump. Says that while incitement is a specific charge from the criminal code Trump is practically and morally culpable for the attack on the capital. Calls Trump’s behavior unconscionable.

He’s up to something.

can they ban him from office without a conviction?

mcconnell is basically laying all this at trump's feet.

i'm not sure how he can reconcile his not guilty vote with this speech.

Covering his bases. Being able to quote himself not supporting Trump the next time he supports Trump.

Mitch McConnell is a politician. He did the politically smart thing by voting to acquit. He just gave cover to his caucus.

Now he is handing it over to DOJ on a platter.

And then he will admonish the DOJ for going after Trump. The Aristocrats!

The looming spectre:

“Our historic, patriotic and beautiful movement to Make America Great Again has only just begun.

In the months ahead, I have much to share with you, and I look forward to continuing our incredible journey together to achieve American greatness for all of our people.” ~Trump minutes after vote.

The GOP proves themselves to be a fascist party that approves the attempted violent overthrow of our duly elected federal government and lacks the spine to punish the man who attempted to kill them and end the American republic.

An authoritarian takeover is now inevitable. Unified opposition to fascism is the only thing that could prevent that, but the Republicans have cast their lot with fascists. They will have more opportunities to take control, and eventually they will succeed.

All this is true and isn't rhetoric.  They cultivated the monster, fed it, and now protect it.  Just a matter of time before it gets loose.  They are part of the monster.

Collins and Murkowsky can fuck right off--like they didn't see this coming.  When would've been a good time to do something?  Oh yeah, the first impeachment you insincere dumbshits.  I expect it from the males, but the Republicans continuously attack females and you let it happen.

No he isn't. He specifically said it wasn't likely to legally be incitement.
