The Long Walk

A film adaptation of Stephen King’s 1979 post-apocalyptic novel, The Long Walk, which concerns a deadly walkathon in which contestants must keep a pace of four miles per hour without stopping, is now in development at New Line. James Vanderbilt (Zodiac) is slated to write and produce. [THR]

Sweet.  Coincidentally, this story kept me from going crazy one summer between semesters.  I got a bad case of poison ivy and couldn’t sleep.  Reading this story got me through a couple of nights.

I also wonder why it took so long to bring this to the screen.  Seems as if the concept would be perfect for the dystopian Hunger Games type crowd.

I read this one in 8th grade and was fascinated by the concept which now seems to be the soup of the day. Hopefully this will not be a Maze Runner type adaptation.

Holy shit.

Been a long time since I read that one.

I think that was in one of his books of short stories.

Film looks good.

This looks like it has high potential. I'm down.

The Long March was also compiled into a collection of four novels written under King's pseudonym: The Long Walk, Roadwork, The Running Man, and Rage. I remember reading "The Bachman Books" as a teen and loving all of them. I wish I'd saved my copy because King stopped printing Rage after it inspired a bunch of high school shootings. Also The Running Man as a novel is so much better than the movie (which was great in its own right).

It was one of his books published under his Richard Bachman pseudonym.  According to King, it was actually the first novel he ever wrote.

The first King/Bachman book I ever read was Thinner and I was hooked.

Love his stuff.
