Everybody get a good look at LTtxfan! He'd forego a national title appearance in year 3 and multiple college football playoff appearances for a fucked up season in the middle of that run. Who else is in on this take with him, raise your hands ... oh yeah, fucking crickets.

Ya, but did you hear his attempt at a southern accent?

Pretty much this, Sark gets is on track next season (7-8 wins) and looks better in every aspect next season with "his players" or this isn't happening. You don't need multi-year rebuilds and the commits we do have are early contributor types.

This is absolutely the deal.

If we win 7 and are improving at the end of the season rather that what we did this year folks will be happy.

We need to be that team come bowl season that bowl teams ranked above us are saying "man I hope we don't have to play Texas".

OTOH if we stumble to 7 wins and are sucking at the end of the year,  bad news.

Regardless of the money aTm is throwing at kids, which is substantial, at the end of the day, the school is recruiting itself right now. Actually, that's not accurate. Let me rephrase, that RECRUITING CLASS is recruiting itself right now. Regardless of the fact college station is an island of misfit racists, and despite a shitty offense and another season ending in a wet fart, they have a tremendous class full of talented players, and the momentum is snowballing fast.

You can sell vision all you want. You can even like our coaches and our scheme. But we had a historically bad season, lost to Kansas, and haven't had a high tier commitment in ages. If you had to pick, well, the school throwing money at kids right now that is possibly going to sign the #1 recruiting class, well, at least they can say with a straight face they're drawing the TALENT to compete at the highest level. Everyone is looking at Texas and knows we don't have to talent to win shit, and probably won't any time soon. Kids want to play with other good kids, we all know that.

This is it.  If you were a top recruit which recruiting class would you want to join up with?  They have the momentum right now.  How was Mack able to beat out Stoops for top recruits (sans Peterson & Bomar) every single year despite getting his teeth kicked in for 5 years.  We just have to admit that A&M has a better staff & recruiting structure in place.  Jimbo is finishing year 4 and this is the class he is going to bring in.  We'll just have to see if Sark is able to do the same in year 4 if he lasts that long.

Head coach of defense, lol

Shehan Jeyarajah  May 4, 2020

Longtime head coach Jerry Kill joined Gary Patterson's staff at TCU as an off-field assistant coach in February. Kill opened up on what exactly his role with the Horned Frogs will be in 2020.

TCU: How Jerry Kill's role as 'head coach of offense' will work

Quote

Longtime college football head coach Jerry Kill joined TCU in an off-field role officially titled “special assistant to the head coach” in February. But if you ask Kill what exactly his role will be at TCU, it stretches much further than just a simple advisor.

TCU head coach Gary Patterson ranks among the top defensive gurus in America. To support him, Kill will take on a role that is being described as akin to a head coach of offense.

Since Kill is not one of the 10 official on-field assistant coaches, he cannot technically participate in on-field instruction of players. However, he will be involved in direction, schematics and evaluation of offensive coaches, along with evaluation of Patterson himself.

“I coach the coaches,” Kill said. “I watch the film with them, go over all the techniques, everything we’re doing. I can be there during game day, make recruiting suggestions. I can do anything off the field, and during practice, I can be on the field. You can coach a lot and not have to say anything.”

Kill and Patterson’s relationship goes back decades. Both are Kansas natives who played for Dennis Franchione – Patterson at Kansas State, Kill at Southwestern (Kan.) – and Kill even served as best man at Patterson’s wedding. Kill believes their close relationship gives him a unique ability to work with Patterson to fix TCU’s issues.

“We can talk in a different way because we go back so long,” Kill said. “There’s a deep amount of respect. I know him better than anyone in Fort Worth.”

TCU’s offense has regressed over the past several seasons. After ranking No. 3 in total offense in Trevone Boykin’s final season in 2015, the Horned Frogs have steadily declined. TCU fell to No. 45 during a run to the Big 12 title game in 2017, before falling off a cliff to No. 98 in 2018. The offense jumps to No. 62 in 2019, but still just No. 7 in the Big 12.

Uncoincidentally, TCU fell from 11-3 in 2017 to 5-7 in 2019, just the fourth losing season of the Patterson era. Kill noted that Patterson had to do more work coaching and focusing on offense the past two seasons than in previous seasons. The hope is Kill can shoulder some of that responsibility.

“I’m trying to take some things off his plate so he can do what he does best,” Kill said. “When we can take things off his plate, we can win games.”

Kill spent 21 years as a head coach at every level from Division-II to Power Five, and had a knack for getting the most out of underachieving programs. He helped set the stage for Northern Illinois’ resurgence in the late 2000s, and then took Minnesota to back-to-back eight-win seasons for the first time in a decade.

However, health issues pushed Kill out of head coaching in 2015. He’s spent the last few years going around the nation and working as a consultant for big-time programs, including Kansas State and Notre Dame. Kill spent the 2019 season helping TCU staff alum Justin Fuente rebuild his running game; the Hokies went 6-2 after his arrival.

Kill will be asked to stabilize an offensive coaching staff filled with moving pieces. Offensive coordinator Sonny Cumbie is entering his fourth season in the primary play calling role. Former offensive coordinator Doug Meacham, who spearheaded the offensive innovation that led to a Big 12 championship in 2014, is back on campus as inside receivers and tight ends coach. Co-offensive coordinator and running backs coach Curtis Luper is also gone, replaced by Bryan Applewhite.

Patterson was noncommittal about how this structure could work in practice during a media availability last week.

“I don’t know. We’ll see. Right now that’s for me to know and you to find out,” Patterson said last week. “We’d know a lot more about it if we had gone through more than four practices in the spring.

“Right now, it gave us an opportunity to really go back to the beginning instead of rushing things. This time in some ways has been very helpful for our offense to get to know each other and figure out what our strengths are.”

Kill made his top priority evaluating how to improve fundamentals across the roster, but especially on the offensive line. TCU only went through four spring practices before the COVID-19 pandemic shut everything down.

“According to Coach Patterson, that was the best four practices the offense has had in about five or six years,” Kill said. “So I think we’re on the right track.”

Choat seems like a liability in recruiting....

He’s actually probably in the middle of the pack when looking at the entire defensive staff.

Derrick Brown mentioned in an interview with a Roach the other day that Choate was his primary and was one of the big reasons he ended up committing. He assisted with Trevell Johnson too and Finkley.

Of course Choate is also attached at the hip with PK so if you get rid of one you are getting rid of the other.

Unless the <insert GP title here> Gary Patterson wants Glasgow and whomever to join. I'm with Texassstrong that the only safe guy on the defensive side is Bo Davis.

Oh yeah I agree, if they give Patterson what he wants and push PK out, Davis might be the only one staying.

There is not enough data on Sark as a coach? Choate-MacDuff seems like a liability? Seems? Have you fuckers not been watching any football this year?

That being said, I fully welcome Patterson to run the defense. Literally anyone in charge other than PK is an improvement. Plus we get to have him negatively recruiting FOR us which could be kind of fun.

Chill... just pointing out that one of your examples of a "good coach" (Kelly) also had a real SUCK-ASS year with ND in 2016 at 4-8.

That's all... Carry on CTJ

We're likely to have a better recruiting class than either of Charlie's.   Everyone is going to A&M - so it feels worse - but its likely to have a better per player average and that's with two specialists in this class..

We're POSSIBLY going to have a higher-ranked recruiting class than either of Charlie's. But again, right now more than 1/3 of the class is DL, we have 1LB recruit, a long-term project at QB, one player ranked in the top-100 composite, no OTs, an absolute flake at RB, our highest-ranked in-state recruit is the #15 player, and we have no five-star/impact players in a year where there were eight composite five-star in-state players! This is an imbalanced class that doesn't address our roster needs. It's a shit class from a shit staff. We got our asses kicked all over the field this year, and we're getting our asses kicked in recruiting.

He has to win 8 minimum. And I think firing a coach after 2 years is dumb. But really dumb is hanging on to an "offensive genius" in the portal era who can't get to 8 wins in two years at Texas.

Remember, every motherfucker on this board was sure we'd win 9 THIS YEAR.

I do not understand all of the people on this board who are treating the transfer portal as the panacea to all of our ills. You’ve got to recruit out of the portal too, same as a high school kid.

They're relying on hope as a strategy. Just like someone did when they made the decision to hire Steve Sarkisian.

Yeah you're a fucking complete ape. Get the fuck out of here dipshit with this stupid ass take. Fucking chimp.

To be fair, losing to aggy is prima facia evidence of slippage.  They should feel ashamed. If they beat Georgia and win the national title they should refuse to accept it for losing to that cuck Jimbo and his sheep fucking followers who finished 5th in their own division this year (after accounting for tie- breakers).

I'd like to see it. People were getting crushed for suggesting less than 9 wins.

It was reposted not too long ago and we all got a good laugh. I don’t like you enough to search for it. Not that I dislike you, just don’t know you. Point is, some people knew this roster was shit and without Sam it has little heart/leadership. Of course, many knew Sark would squat on our sidelines and shit during each game.

I would like a dictionary. Is this offer good for any of us? If so, my address is:

2519 Parkdale Dr
Kingwood, TX 77339

Thanks

I can honestly say "go fuck yourself" to you and any other short term, small-minded rube that thinks only in terms of single days in front of them for their life outlook.

NIL was opened, with rules to live by coming with it, less than 6 months ago. In that time, the fans and alums at Texas, recognizing the AD being fully unprepared and trying to wish NIL away, have raised 6 figures annually for all TEs, $10million now + much more in future years for multiple positions all over the field, and at a minimum, another thing being announced early next week for another team unit for shocking amounts of money. All of that has been done trying to help with no support from the AD and an incompetent football staff so scared of its own shadow that it won't even have a fucking cup of coffee to discuss shit that is completely above board.

With that, let all of us who have significant amounts of money, reputation, sweat, and privacy at risk apologize sincerely to you and every other fucking clown that doesn't get it and wishes to pound their fists on the table and demand better recruiting results now, damn the long term value beyond immediate needs. We should have waved wands and gotten all of this done so much sooner for you guys.

Or, if we had QB'ing that was above average in competence and we weren't spraying balls into the other teams sidelines throwing jump passes while fading away when receivers were running 20 yards wide open.

I think Sark is a really good offensive mind and he showed that he could scheme and play call in getting out to leads all throughout conference, and adjustments by others to our players numerous limitations were too much to overcome.

I was impressed with the special teams and we are certainly paying enough to expect really good special teams.

If Patterson comes in and has total control over the defense I would expect them to be an above average unit.  Hit on a QB that doesn't blow- one more good receiver, Patterson as a defensive coach and you should be looking at 9 or 10 wins next year.  If not you say thanks for trying Steve, hit the bricks b/c it will never happen here for him.

No, we should fire the coach after one season.  That's definitely the right move.  Good coaches will be lining up to come here, thrilled to know they'll have one whole fucking season to put their system in place.

Did that make a difference with our most recent hire? I mean, our coach is a bum. What could be worse?

7 wins total? Hell no.  7 of the first 10 with a legit shot at 9 wins and are improving, then yeah, folks will likely be happier than they are now depending on how the final 2 games go.

I happen to know people close to Glasgow. My wife and his are pretty close. I’m trying to dig up some dirt, but I’m not getting much. I’ll keep trying. Odds are he wouldn't come because the wife is old Fort Worth/TCU money. At least, if he came, he’d be leaving the family in FTW, which isn’t altogether unimaginable. Anyway, if I get anything out of them, I’ll try to pass it along.
