By the way, what the hell ever happened to the ROT Rally?  I haven't heard of that even in years.  And maybe more to the point, I haven't heard the motorcycles downtown in years.  Is the ROT Rally just dead?

As the above posters stated it looks like it’s been reduced to a meet up one day at a motorcycle store. A weird 1-2  punch 25 years ago to go downtown in April and the bars be dead, two different weekends, because of the events in the area.

They left when The Chain Drive closed.

Boys in the crime lab are working in shifts solving all these garage robberies.

The combination of a variety of factors with APD quietly quitting and Garza politics and APD’s fight against community accountability is quite the shit show. All too often it seems we have union honks piling on Garza when the reality is we’re citizens in a rudderless city surrounded by jurisdictions that want to kick us in the balls.

I will say, I like the barricade approach that they've taken.  I'm not an "Old Austin" vs "New Austin" person in that I liked Austin then and I liked it now.  That said, when I was at UT, 6th street had traffic flowing on it and it was fine... plenty of idiocy but not as bad as when they shut down the street to pedestrians.  So, I don't mind this move to make it more permanent.  Bars will adapt.  Now, if we could only resurrect the King of 6th Street

CSB alert.

Back in the mid-90s, I remember walking up a cross street almost getting to 6th when I saw car drive through the intersection down 6th with a dude out of the sunroof pointing a gun at the car behind them. They get out of view and pop, pop, pop, pop. I heard screaming and saw people running. We run towards the commotion on 6th. Everyone is ducking down. Cops are running down the 6th with guns drawn. We get to the scene to see 2 dudes hobble out of a car. One dude was shot in the arm. The other dude was shot in the leg. I remember standing over the leg shot dude thinking, damn, that's a lot of blood.

I believe maybe it was shortly after that incident that they close 6th to car traffic.

Actually made the mistake of drunkenly walking in there one night. Real life version of a movie scene, drunk dude barges in, everyone turns around and stares at him, needle rips off the record, dude immediately turns around and walks back out.

It surely wasn’t the Dexter Lake Club.

Lol apd doesn't do shit

It shouldn't be possible to get arrested on 5 separate theft charges in a Calander year (2024).  That is not on APD who are making the arrests, that is on the CA and DA for their revolving door/zero consequences/zero bail policy.

If you are going to shoot people, dress like you're going to a luau.

https://www.kxan.com/news/local/austin/multiple-killed-hurt-in-north-austin-shooting/

Two people died and two others are hurt after a shooting at a Target in north Austin Monday afternoon, according to a news flash sent to Austin City Council and the mayor obtained by KXAN. Austin Police said the suspect is still at large, a social media post said, and will hold a media briefing.

Austin police said the shooting occurred at the Target located at 8601 Research Boulevard, just before 3 p.m., the post said.

The suspect is described as a white male possibly wearing khaki shorts and a Hawaiian/floral shirt.

Police urged the community to stay away.

“DO NOT APPROACH. For your safety avoid the area,” police said.

APD also said the 8000 block of MoPac southbound frontage road is shut down between Executive Center Drive and Anderson Lane.

Maybe misremembering but didn’t that Target have a similar shooting a year or so ago?

I know a poster's wife was the victim of an armed robbery in the parking lot a few years back (probably more than a few, probably on TOS).

Is this separate from the Target shooter? It seems like it would be since this is not near Ohlen road.

It looks to be part of the Target shooting since it’s referring to the two victims. The shooter fled but was allegedly caught in the area near Mopac.

Answering my own question, it appears related - the Target shooting was a carjacking. This seems to be the location where the suspect was apprehended.

In a Reddit thread, the shooter was over by Church's trying to flag down cars for a ride. I guess he took matters into his own hands and car jacked.

I can see that location being a focal point for frustration.  Fuckers are always out of spicy whenever I try to hit it up (spicy fried chicken is one of my "the wife is outta town and can't judge me" indulgences).  Seriously, they NEVER have it, then ask "we're making a batch, do you wanna wait thirty minutes?"  No, goddammit, I don't.  I have no desire to sit in the damned Church's parking lot for half an hour while you cook chicken that you should have up and ready all the time, especially at the dinner hour.

I mean, I've never gone on a shooting spree about it.  But I've been plenty annoyed by it.

At least Church's *sometimes* has fried chicken with flavor. The most frustratingly well cooked, obnoxiously bland, fried chicken is Bush's. All of them have great fried chicken. Crunchy. Cooked well.

BUT that shit is the most bland friend chicken on Earth. It's like they sourced the chicken from some whitewashed, vapid, soulless, bland as fuck Dallas suburb. That shit could be sooo good if they just knew that spices exist.

Maybe he should have shot the chefs who create Bush's recipe.

I was exiting Mopac southbound a bit sooner than I usually do because Far West is closed (of course it is).  I managed to squeak through that impending clusterfuck about a minute before it clusterfucked and turned right on Spicewood Springs.  I didn't see anyone being aprehended.

Why Church's when Popeye's exists?

1 -- closer to my casa, and convenience counts

2 -- as much as it pains me to say it, Church's spicy MIGHT be superior to Popeyes.  Depends on the day and the batch, but it's genuinely good

These are things Brisket believes.

Reports are that he made it away from there.  What I don't understand is how/what in...

The suspect then reportedly hijacked another vehicle at a Volkswagen dealership and headed to South Austin.

What VW dealership would that be?

Only one I'm aware of is Vanguard on Burnet.  Just this week I decided not to buy a car from them, so I guess I'm a suspect.  Great.

Isn't that a mechanic shop?  And in any case....that's a pretty long haul in this heat, and even running at full tilt, it ain't exactly nearby.
