Yeah.  That ain't gonna happen.  Shit, just yesterday, was driving down Mesa.  Which has a clearly marked and very good bike lane.  What did I get held up behind?  47 dipshits who thought they were in the Tour de France.

Bike lanes are just one more traffic law/device for cyclists to ignore.

One of my proudest moments was when I was referenced on a local cyclist message board as someone to look out for when riding through our neighborhood, a favorite of local middle-aged spandex lovers.   The incident that led to it was a cyclist riding into our driveway to accost my wife while our kids were in the car, screaming at her at the top of his lungs because she didn't use her signal when turning left into our driveway (he was riding behind her, so it impacted him in no way at all).  He didn't expect to see me coming out the front door, and when he did, his eyes went as wide as saucers as I was breathing fire.  He wasn't quite as tough and mean when he was no longer facing a woman and children.   He was also lucky to leave the property in one piece.  His agility and speed in running away from me due to all the biking were no doubt an asset to him.  Anyway, he went to the Internet and posted a hilarious warning to all cyclists to beware the monster who lives on my corner.  I see him riding form time to time, often weaving in and out of the bike lane, never stopping at stop signs, and generally being a standard issue cyclist asshole.  He doesn't ride past my house anymore, though.

Why the hell do these morons have such a bike lane fetish?!  I bet if you surveyed, there's less than 5% of people that actually commute via bike.  We're constantly bowing to the pressures of these bike goons and making vehicle traffic worse so they can pretend to be Lance Armstrong for those three weeks a year the weather allows it.

It's not a bike lane fetish, it's the "make using the internal combustion engine as painful as possible" fetish.

"if you care so much about vehicle traffic why not take the train, bus, walk or bike" - city council member who drives to work

Ah yes, ACC's Rules for Thee but not for Me policies.

But there is absolutely a large group of cyclist douches online that fight for these bike lanes all over town, only to rarely use them in the end.  Narrow decent roads to allow for a bike lane that's utilized a handful of times a day all while causing tremendous traffic issues.  They are pushing for some mythical city where they can get from Sprouts to Trader Joes to In-N-Out to their colonic appointments while never actually having to follow any traffic laws.

I wouldn’t mind taking the bus, but the #3 express ends at 71 instead of continuing down Manchaca.

If they want less people on the road, they need to make using public transportation more convenient, which for most of us means the bus, not a train.

Fat chance of that though.

I was driving home from Moody the other night at close to midnight so it's dark out. On some main street running N/S in East Austin with double yellow lines dividing traffic. This kid on a lime scooter coming the other direction swerves into me from the edge of the street almost right into my lane (he maybe got to within a feet of the dividing line as I passed him) and then turns behind me into whatever cross-street was intersecting.

I wasn't speeding or being careless but I was going probably 35 or 40 and had to hit the brakes/slow down to make sure he didn't hit me.

Like - hey dude - if you want to kill yourself being a dipshit in traffic then go ahead - but that's not an incident I'm trying to deal with on my way home.

Not to change the subject from unruly cyclists, but I would be happy to fork over $2k, $3k annually for a BART type rail line.  I’m just confounded we can’t seem to build that kind of thing here.

Where is all the Project Connect money going? I live in RR, but seem to remember a decent tax increase was coming for Austinites. Never get a straight answer though. Is it being set aside for adding the new lines or is it getting mixed in with current cap metro operational costs.

I'd prefer a BORT type rail line.

It goes to Austin Transit Partnership and either has been sitting in capital funds or been spent on admin and consultants.  Definitely nothing wasteful going on.  Great ROI.

I've almost killed 2 bicyclists running stop signs in the past 3 days, so this hits close to home.  Mesa & Far West, holla.

You need to get yourself a dash cam to either protect your ass when you run one of them over, or to start putting their shit on blast.

That’s a political thread to comment about any topic, including old & new things.

In that particular case it was a real example of government directly punishing a media entity for factual reporting of a scandal that occured in Austin and was subsequently “buried”.

I have no idea why you would be offended because I quoted the post.

Asking you to provide a source for your obvious copy and paste job isn’t being “offended.” That’s pretty normal. Reading the other posts from your source tells me to take it all with a grain of salt especially because it accuses only one party of being in on the corruption. Conveniently the party that your “vegas experts” board would currently hold in contempt.

I posted those personal observations of that scandal originally on that message board and pasted it here. 60 years ago I watched the reporter’s revelations on the now-defunct Tv station, and it wasn’t difficult to understand why the FCC (Led by an LBJ appointee) did not renew the station’s license later.

During the time period when the scandal occurred , there were no republicans in any Austin, Travis County, or statwide office then. The democrats owned it.

But you are entirely welcome to take it with a grain of salt, I do not care.

The Vegas Experts board is not “mine”. I have just been a member there for 25 years.

So you copied your own post? How the hell is someone supposed to know that? Jeeeze Brat. Also I know it’s not your board, didn’t say that at all, first off all the images are correctly orientated…

For some odd reason I do not understand (just like the upside down photos), whenever I copy one of my posts from that forum and pasted it elsewhere, the font appears much larger.  Weird.
Even my 15 year old grandson can’t explain it to me.

After you paste look below the reply box and click the paste ass plain text link before hitting submit and it removes the formatting from the other board.

It should be mandated that all city council members and all city employees bike to work.

Ellis is challenging everyone this week. I wonder how many at City Hall are pledging to empathize. The biking piece sounds especially fun with a high in the mid 90s.

On the plus side it's encouraging that Ellis does have the ability to speak. On the flip side it's probably best that she not talk at all. Dear lord.

More like "can't drive". When i was a poor I had to ride the bus to work for 3 years and it was a fucking nightmare. 2 hours to go a few miles across town from northloop to 35th And mopac. 4 hours of my day on the bus every single fucking day of the week. Why did it take so long? Because I had to transfer to another bus for which I waited 30 minutes to finish my commute. Its total bullshit.

The transfers and wait for the bus and walking from the stop to the destination kill the thing.

Yesterday, I had to drop a car off in West Campus and get home some other way, a distance of about 2 miles.  I had three options:

* Take CapMetro, about 40 minutes for a cost of $1.25 for me and about $6-$12 for the taxpayer.
* Walk, also 40 minutes and free but a bit sweaty.
* Uber, about 10 minutes for $6, which was a discount from their normal price of about $10.

So I picked Uber and got matched with a Waymo.  A robot drove me home in an electric Jaguar with nice leather seats and cold A/C.

Cap Metro's revenue is $600 million a year and for that they provide 26 million rides per year.  That is an average of $23 per ride.  They do provide paratransit which is expensive and needed, but even if you back that out they spend a lot of money per rider.  They employ 22 vice-presidents and have their own police department.

As rideshare scales, particularly driverless rideshare, we should reconsider Cap Metro's operating model versus just supplementing rideshare for lower income folks.  I think they should keep their paratransit services and their main corridor routes like the 801 and 803, but everything else should go rideshare.

I lived off of wickersham and pleasant valley back in 93 to 96 - bus stop was a 5 minute walk from aparment.  campus was 30 minutes away.   ride home was 30 minutes or so.   cost was free with student ID.   good times.

Why do I, and why does anyone, need to build empathy for those that don't drive?  I've never had that thought cross my mind.

This wasn’t Gregory Davis’ first arrest. He was previously caught trespassing a UT sorority house, and was once caught pantless at Pluckers, terrorizing customers before a customer punched him in the face.

Davis keeps coming back to the same locations, escalating from trespassing to exposing himself to threatening violence. Each arrest, prosecutors set another low bond and let him walk.

Garza needs to quit giving out lollipops and up his game to solve crime in Austin.

Same thought. If asterisks represent the exact amount of letters, each is a four letter word that they can't/won't print?

Kill seems unlikely to be censored though.

Bore?

Kiss? Kick?

Knit?

If it's not asterisk dependent, then that opens the gates.

Then I'd go with buttfuck. But K has me stumped for being censored.
