The sushi part has me thinking he’s trolling. Also had no idea that Seguin had a bookstore.

I think ace hardware selling cookbooks qualifies it as the only bookstore in the county

🍖 A Texas barbecue favorite is facing unexpected backlash.

Hutchins BBQ is under scrutiny after owner Tim Hutchins engaged in a public debate about Islam on social media. The comments sparked accusations, boycott calls, and broader discussion across Texas online spaces.

⬇️ IN THE COMMENTS: A resurfaced comment thread has brought renewed attention to the restaurant.

Hutchin's BBQ is opening a spot in Arlington next to the Ojo's Loco's near the ballpark.
It is in the old Texas Land and Cattle spot.

Ah man… worked at that TL&C in high school.

Find memories of using my fake to buy the kitchen beer at end of shift, and eating the cowboy steak and enchilada combo at the start.

Hey y'all, how are the ribs at True Texas BBQ?  Thinking of grabbing a rack.

The Allen HEB has had bad ribs the 1 time I ordered about 3-4 months ago.
Extremely tough. I don’t know if each site cooks their own or if they have a large place for doing all locations.

Anyone hit up Two Goose on S. Lamar?  Pretty good stuff.

So, random... anyone tried one of those 7 lb holiday hams from Rudy's?

I kinda feel like doing a big austin circuit and trying everything and giving it a true rating system for this thread. This place looks weird as fuck, they are cooking on a 250gal max pit, idk wtf they are thinking.

They looked good today when I went to get a baked potato for lunch (1/4lb chopped beef 1/4lb pulled pork) my potato was very cheap and pretty good.

For now they only do meat by the lb on Saturdays.  I suspect that will change.

Idk that it will. It seems like a grab n go model with crazy margins required.

$17 for a sandwich is nuts. $25 for lunch is a niche that can work if they keep quality crazy high and quantity/waste really low.

It really does seem like a marketing play to me more than a pure food play.

I guess we'll see.  That said, earlier in the day I was explaining to my son that some retail/restaurant locations tend to be a bit cursed.  That location?  Yeah.

Their BBQ is shit anyways

Not sure if its that bad, but the couple times I've been there I was less than impressed.  Several people in the area seem to give it good reviews, though.

Co-worker bought a $25 chopped beef sandwich from Cooper's last week. $17 is a bargain.

I mean it is edible.  But before I went, people were talking about it like it was the greatest BBQ ever.  Putting it up there with Cattleack, Goldees and all the other top tier places.  Been there twice was it is nothing like the high end places.  Hutchins and Hurtados have HUGE cult followings but their bbq is just mid.

made the annual trip to stiles switch last night for their 12 days of meat celebration. special was the ola mailman sandwich..chopped brisket and sausage with cheese sauce and mustard sauce on an olamaie biscuit. the sandwich was serviceable but certainly not worth $19, the biscuit added nothing to the experience. it came with tabasco buttermilk fries that had no discernible tabasco flavor...tasted like regular fries to me. 2 meat plate with jalapeno cheddar sausage and pork ribs was excellent. i need to try their wings, they looked good.

Cadillac Clucker at Stanley's is $15.49.  Regular MC is $12.99.  You guys are getting robbed.

@GreenspointTexas says it's the second-best BBQ in the state behind only Snow's.

Unscientific study of Texas barbecue joints and their ability to stay open.  Looks like at least some correlation between finding a spot on the Texas Monthly Top 50 and to a lessor extent the Texas Monthly Honorable Mention and the Texas Monthly Top 25 New.

The number represents the number of joints that are now closed out of the joints on the list.

2017 TM Top 50:  7/50

2019 TM Top 25 New:  4/25

2021 TM Top 50:  6/50

2021 TM HM:  10/50

2023 TM Top 25 New:  3/25

2025 TM Top 50:  1/50

2025 TM HM:  1/50

Jerry Callo's random list of other barbecue joints mostly in Austin and Central Texas:  15/50

Man I'm telling you, the Mel man is excellent. Finely chopped brisket, pretty finely chopped whole sausage on a bun w sauce...I'm in all the time. Glad Jordan introduced me to it.

Article is almost a decade old btw.

That’s Roy Hutchins bbq which is from trophy club.  They split from the original in McKinney.  Gotta keep up on the bbq gossip.

Lots of people also think the Q @ Bill Miller's is a high quality offering.
