November 5, 20241 yr What is the tiebreaker that would have guaranteed them in at a 7-1 conference record with a loss to us? The most likely 3-way tie would be us and the GA/Tenn winner, not sure how they would have been locked in. Relatedly, a conference that is this big, with no divisions and 8 games is fucking stupid. Lots of talk last week about scenario where Texas beat aggy, LSU beat AL, and there was a 4 way tie btw TX AL GA and aggy. Supposedly LSU and aggy would be in SEC champ game based on SEC tiebreaker rules.

Brought an Auburn fan up to speed on a couple of aggie realities in a business meeting yesterday. I recently started helping another non-profit located in Illinois. One of the main guys I deal with is an Aggie from Arizona. Nice guy, and I like him. At a lunch two weeks ago (before the LSU game), he and I were sitting next to a guy from Illinois, who doesn't get all the passion in CFB in the south. I explained to him the phenomenon of TAMU, including that Aggies revere their traditions, while outsiders just think they're weird and cultish. The Aggie in the room said "name one thing that we do that's weird." I said "what do you do when the team is facing a critical 4th and goal, down by 5, a minute left in the game?" He said "squeeze our nuts." Followed by "OK, I admit that's a little weird." I didn't even get into the dead dog scoreboard, the jizz jars, the revering mass manslaughter through incompetence, the stolen valor, or anything else. From the inside you can't explain it, from the outside you can't understand it.

November 5, 20241 yr Popular Post Quote Power ranking the SEC after week 10: #8 - Texas The Longhorns had an off week as well after a pretty poor back to back against Georgia and Vandy. I haven’t really changed my estimation of Texas following last week’s ranking, but they fell by virtue of another team behind them rising. They may be catching even another break, however, as there is a non-zero chance that they face backup quarterbacks in the next two games against Florida and Arkansas. Those were two games that I had my eye on last week as potential trip-up spots for the Horns, but this would obviously increase the likelihood of a 2-0 stretch by leaps and bounds. A lot outside of their control has broken right for Texas this year, yet they still managed to lose a lot of goodwill over these last three weeks. Wins over a couple of hobbled teams over the next two weeks will probably get some casual fans believing again, but I’m still not convinced this is a championship-level squad. Quote Power ranking the SEC after week 10: #7 - South Carolina What a huge win for South Carolina this past weekend. This is the Gamecocks team that everyone saw in the first half against LSU, before Sellers went down with an injury, stretched out for a full game. This, in other words, is what Carolina can be if they stop shooting themselves in the foot, as they so often have. It finally all came together, and it manifested in a 20-plus-point win over a top-10 team. Carolina now sits at 5-3 with games against Vanderbilt, Missouri, Wofford, and Clemson. They could be riding a 5-game win streak into their matchup with the upstate rival on rivalry weekend if they’re able to navigate this weekend’s road trip. Believe it or not, given their schedule, they could be in the CFP discussion if they win out, depending on how a few other things break. Talk about a program-revolutionizing result for Shane Beamer! Quote Power ranking the SEC after week 10: #4 - Texas A&M The Aggies drop a couple of spots after their showing in Columbia. It was extremely out of character, as we all saw, in more ways than one. I’m not just talking about the deficit, but the game flow, what each team did well and didn’t do well, et cetera. Texas A&M football now has a tough row to hoe without their best offensive player, Le’Veon Moss. WIth no. 8 out for the season, the Aggies will have to manufacture offense elsewhere. Hopefully, being embarrassed as they were in Columbia, this defense comes out of the bye with a renewed focus. They’ll need it to tamp down Auburn (who, again, despite sitting at 3-6, has some danger to them as a team) and especially to take down Texas. If the Aggies win out, though, they’re in the SEC championship game and possibly the playoff (depending on how some other things shake out, both squads in Atlanta may be headed to the CFP anyway). That will be much harder to do without Moss, but this is a team that has found different ways to win all year.
