Ewers softballing passes 15-20 yards down the field and hitting the rafters on deep balls pissed me off, but Manning laserbeaming 5-yard throws into every crevice of both field and player other than his WR’s hands might actually take the cake.

Agreed.  Rough game for Arch.  His inaccuracy is extremely concerning.  His slow processing is sort of expected considering his first big game on the road against an elite defense, but the game was there to win.  It could have been taken, but ultimately Arch wasn't good enough and frankly, neither was Sark.  His game plan sucked and schematically he played so conservatively, it was strange.  Arch will get better, he has 3 chumps to get better on and then a daunting road game at the Swamp.  He will get and be better but this wasn't the start any of us, including him, hoped for.

You do realize this game was scheduled several years ago and nobody knew who our starting QB would be today at the time?

I think he means in general.  Michigan last year?  2nd game of the season.  Bama in 23'?  2nd game of the season.  There's reasons to resist going on the road opening weekend.  Still, the game, while pretty ugly, was good for college football.  Hope it's good for this year's team.

If you're gonna lose do it early. I have zero issues with playing these games to start the season. Players want to play at schools that do it. While it totally sucks to lose, and Arch looked really rough, it will 100% benefit him and the team in the long run.

We may have cursed Arch by not putting a “seems like he sucks” in the title of this thread.

Guess he won’t be winning the Heisman.

As far as optimism about improvement, he’s in year 3 here, so I’m not gonna be surprised if this is just who he is against great defenses. Maybe it’s first game rust. Maybe.

Agreed. If Arch looks like ass against Florida or OU, we’ll have 2 data points to know that we’ve got a problem.

It's year 3, but really just his 3rd start against a team that defines the word consistency as far being an elite college football program goes. I make no conclusions from this one. I can only hope that his even keel attitude that he has displayed so far is for real, because he is going to need to learn from this quickly, and then put it behind him. The coach is the bigger issue

He bizarrely has terrible mechanics and accuracy. There is something structurally wrong with how he throws a football and it’s very concerning. The guy had all day to throw the football too so this isn’t something you can just write off as a tough week 1 opponent. Against air he is not completing a lot of the throws he made today.

Sayin wasn’t that great either and he has three receivers that would start for us

arch seemed to be aiming.  Needs to get better

Also why does he keep flexing his arms up

Again, I agree, I want to play these games, but I would advocate from a scheduling perspective to work out some kinks with a patsy the first week.  Play SJSU and then OSU.  It's all good and I'm hopeful Arch will learn from this and get much better.

i really wish he hadn't been annointed , i would have liked to see kj lacey

lazer balls, ground balls, over the head - im not sure if he was off or had the yips.

that said he just got his first real road start against the previous years champions, who played a near flawless defensive performance.

we will only see 1 other defense anywhere as good as that this year , Georgia .

I was expecting a 9-10 win season this summer, and nothing has changed with that

Run game was working, but Sark went full Tim Tebow in the red zone like Turtle Tom used to do and that cost us.

We will be fine this year the receivers and Arch need need to get in more of a rhythm.

8 targets for Moore and 2 catches ain’t gonna cut it

Yes, he missed some throws against one of the best defenses in the country and in maybe the toughest place to play.

He also got it together and made two big throws in the 4th quarter.

Some of y'all need to remember that Colt McCoy set our school record for picks before being a two-time Heisman runner-up.

It takes games to learn how to play at game speed.  Arch will be fine.

It’s a data point that he isn’t up to it against great defenses.

You have to consider that we ran the ball well and the defense gave him plenty of chances. This wasn’t a young QB being asked to overcome multiple other team failures. This was a young-ish QB being the obvious weak link while guys around him were succeeding. Out rushed them, outgained them by 133 overall, 2 more converted 3rd downs, only -1 TOs, penalties weren’t out of control (though timely in the way they fucked us), 5 more first downs.

This wasn’t a mediocre performance by a QB, this was full on shitting the bed for 3+ quarters of the game.

I’m not saying hope is lost, but this was concerning.

This 100%. This was a good loss and shows us that we still have a lot to work on. 25% chance you just saw our final loss of the season. He will be ready for the Swamp now.

Think of it this way, we played terribly and lost by 1 yard today. Defense is gonna keep us in games, just need the offense to improve (and they will).

Sark needs to re-evaluate. @Thatguy had a legit point last year.  And that 16-yard Jeremiah Smith completion highlights it.  Yes, moving targets enable run after catch.  They also offer opportunities for quick decision, easier throws.  We need more post up options  in this offense.

Sark did a poor job with his screen game.  There are options to take the thinking out of the QB.  When the offense struggles, there are options to get 5+ on 1st down that make the game easier.  Our drives in which we ran the reverse to Wingo and screen to Endries had success.  Surprise.

First half, looked like Sark had Arch on a short leash. Probably because his ability to read elite coverages is pretty bad. Fixable, and I'd have hoped he'd be much further along in that regard.

Early parts of the second half I noticed some yips. A few moments where he wanted to escape the short leash, sometimes successfully and other times with an INT but for the grace of God.

Late fourth quarter, I saw his "it" factor come out, but it was too late and too unreliable to change the outcome of the game.

For him to be in the conversation for Heisman, he will need big wins, an SEC championship, and video game stats against the unworthy opponents.

Yep

Arch kept us in it somewhat with his legs. Jaggerson dropped a touchdown too.

Reffies took 2 off the board which would’ve been a huge momentum shift and the defense played lights out all game.

We gonna roll the SEC and have a lot more rhythm on offense by playoffs.

Arch is truly the anti-Quinn in almost every way. It's almost bizarre. Think about it:

Arch's pocket presence was a very pleasant surprise. Stayed calm, shifted around, scrambled when necessary, kept his eyes downfield. Quinn was all happy feet and self-sacking.

Arch's short-intermediate accuracy was piss poor. Quinn was nails.

Arch's long ball accuracy is good (we think - really only one shot today which was well thrown but totally covered) while Quinn couldn't hit any of them.

Obviously total difference in athleticism.

Check the footwork and weird side arm on this throw. That is an easy throw, hit him in stride and we have a first down at like the 35 with a chance to tie. The kid was shook

there was a stretch (i want to say it was on the scoring drive) where three straight plays were quick, one-read plays:

1)end around to wingo

2)TE screen to endreis

3)qb draw for arch

we played at tempo, the plays were quick hitting, and we weren’t asking arch to stand in the pocket all day trying to throw to his blanketed wrs when we can see that he’s struggling to throw the ball accurately. why we didn’t run offense like that earlier/more often i cannot explain, but it baffles me that people who watched that game think that arch let us down more than sark did.

Mmmm gonna have to disagree with you on some of these.

His pocket presence was OK and he didn't self-sack, which was good.  But he did rush several throws and ended up airmailing or throwing them into the dirt.

The long ball shot to Wingo was bad.  It was forced into coverage, it was under thrown, and it was to the inside where the coverage had leverage instead of the boundary where at worst it would have been incomplete.

The Heisman has been meaningless since they didn’t give it to the greatest college football player of all time and started giving it to blowU stat stackers every year
