I think there's a certain expectation of performance from a leader in the locker room. Bijan was self admittedly much less of a vocal leader and Roschon took on a big role.

Quinn was never the vocal leader either, he always had others to step up and do it.

Arch had the team going before Ohio State and that imploded mainly due to personal performance, there was no plan B on offense and we are seeing that now.

Offense is young and inexperienced. You would hope that guys like Campbell and Wisner would step up. The defense has no such void or lack of options.

My biggest concern right now with Arch is his mentality. Yes, he's working hard. Yes, he's taking a beating and shown toughness standing in the pocket. He owns his mistakes and poor play. Plenty of blame falls on Sark's shoulders and a piss poor OL too. The shitty offense has been a total team and staff effort.

But Arch has got to start being a leader.

When asked recently on a OTF podcast, Bobby (or Gerry, can't remember) tentatively named Wisner as a team leader on offense. That's not gonna work for us. Tre is awesome and he was the clear offensive MVP vs. OU. But the QB has to be the leader. Quinn might not have been super demonstrative, but his air of confidence and cool demeanor had a very positive effect with his leadership skills.

The outside pressure and national media attention has caused this team and staff to react with protectiveness with Arch. I get it, they have good intentions. Taaffe was acting like a big brother trying to defend Arch post-game. But it's not working.

Sark always praised Arch for being a "great teammate" and just one of the guys the last two years while he sat behind Quinn. That you wouldn't know he was a famous hotshot Manning by the way he interacted with the team. That's great and I have a lot of respect for Arch trying to blend in.

But he is the starting QB at the University of Texas now. And he has to flip that switch and become a leader. Embrace the accountability. Hold yourself and your teammates accountable. The spark starts with him.

Well, a leader can't be the biggest fuckup on the team.  There are allowances for heart and guts, but the performance has to be better.

Just to be crystal clear, this was a bluff screen and wheel route to Endries. He came in motion, was faking a block right there at the 30 yd line, then runs down the field. Play never had a chance due to defensive pressure.

Sark has run a version of this play many times, usually to a WR instead of TE.

They had a nice one to Jordan Washington that went for 25 yards, but that was about it.

I didn’t know he was that slow, but it looked like he was dragging a sled with 200 lbs of weights.

Sure. I think his performances would be better with the proper frame of mind.  Arch being devastated and very down on himself after every bad game clearly isn't helping.

Instead of absorbing all the blame, accept that it's a team failure and be a proactive leader and start fixing it.

This is so funny to me. You have grievances from all the fighting on the Quinn thread the last few years and you're being a little insincere on some of these play breakdowns and criticisms with Arch.

I honestly didn't think Quinn was very good. I thought Arch would come in this year and be an instant upgrade. I was wrong. I have no problem admitting that. Sticking to it would be denying reality. So here we are, with Arch clearly needing A LOT more work, trying to have an honest discussion. I hope you'll join me.

Why not? We know Sark won’t do it unless there’s an injury or we’re getting blown out but you’ve pointed out all the reasons Arch isn’t getting it done. Every play Caldwell has run has been decisive

Because I honestly think the kid just didnt prepare and process like he was supposed to and now he is learning that lesson in real time in front of everyone. We all knew a guy or were the guy who was like that. I think everyone has a learning curve. I think Arch probably thought he had it under control. When he played vs the tomato cans things worked out so he was good.

Football is like learning a language. When you almost got it you can speak the language but everything is slower because you have to translate in your head. However, there comes a point when you no longer hear a different language and you no longer need to translate you just are hearing words you understand. Thats how it is when you truly know the playbook and I think once Arch gets there he will be fine.

It was a bad throw, Wingo got two hands on it. Would have been nice to see a great catch there, but it shouldn't be considered a drop.

Do we have to make everything so binary?

Which was my point...someone calling that a drop is fucking silly.  And I'm sorry getting 2 hands on it sounds so fucking easily said when the guy is running full speed the opposite way and has to reach back fully extended to even get his hands to attempt the catch. That's why i think the "wingo sucks cause he can't catch" narrative was stupid too.

Very funny that some folks are trying to put the blame on our 9 cfb game starts QB for a play where he is running the play as designed (fake screen TE wheel), instead of our extremely experienced supposed genius play caller head coach who for some reason thought it would be a good idea once again to keep trying for slow developing deep balls all night with an offensive line that sucks ass and hasn't shown all season that it can hold up long enough for those plays to be successful.

Oh a lot of us blame both.

The issue is those who flat out refuse to see Arch struggling a lot due to his own performance, instead of placing every single fault on Sark(he has enough to be blamed for honestly).

Arch has absolutely struggled, but so has the entire offense as a unit and individually with the exception of Wisner. That's on Sark.

Never said it wasn't...but I will continue to say Sark isn't making Arch miss wide open WR's even when they're standing still and he's got a clean pocket.

I am in now way, shape, or form, excusing Sark for anything.  But even when he gives Arch "easy throws" Arch misses them. That's all i've been saying and why I want to know what the offense looks like with a QB who can make the basic plays any college QB can make.

A lot of you don't remember our entire offense getting better with Ehlinger, and it wasn't because Beuchelle sucked .

He made that offense click.

We don't even know what we have behind Arch , 6 games in this is irresponsible

Interesting how Sark has coached 2 QBs that every team in the country wanted into players that Texas fans wanted benched.

I dont mean he doesn't know the plays at all. He can call the plays. I mean he doesn't know them so well that he can see them in his head during the game. He is calling the play and then walking to the line and seeing blank. He doesn't see a defensive player moving and say to himself "that means x or y is open". He cant recall what x or y was supposed to do until he sees them do it.

Sounds like he doesn’t understand the plays, which is all kinds of crazy to me. I seem to remember it being mentioned that Sarks offense was similar to Arch’s in high school and that was part of the reason he came to Texas. But with all of the opportunity for teaching he’s had, it should be second nature.

Honesty? Grievances? If my critique of Arch was all based on grievances and no football acumen, how did I get it so right?

And thats just it. When you have 5 second to throw because you are the superior athlete on the field and no one can touch you, you just keep riding that wave until you cant. Its hard to tell successful people they need to change. After all, they got where they are by doing what you say wont work going forward. Arch hasn't had to speed up until now. So he could take his time "seeing" what's open instead of "knowing" what will be open. If that makes sense.

This is stupid. Everyone has said Arch has clearly had issues.  I think you are just doing the typical fan nonsense. You want to believe the offense will be fine with a quick change at QB. That is whistling past the grave. Anyone with any ability to honestly look at the offense can see there are a myriad of issues. Funny thing is you have guys in here last 2 years saying the offense wasnt hitting its potential blaming the OL and WRs. Those same guys are saying it is all Arch now but cannot admit that the talent is drastically lower this year. Dont be that guy

Ahh, but what if you put in the back up QB and move Arch to center?

Arch can’t seem to excuse basic throws consistently. I think it’s all mental and he can’t be THIS bad. But this is year 3 of being in the program. Sark thinks he’ll magically become something he isn’t.

I don’t think Sark is capable to mentally help Arch either. Also, when Sark has to constantly say that the culture is good, that means he’s trying to convince himself. Something is obviously broken and Sark is lost too. There will be intervention and changes after the season.

Yes, there is no way Arch is this bad, but do we have the patience and the right person to fix it?  Maybe two games o nthe bench may do him some good?  idk, it's frustrating

I just want to know why Wingo can't catch a pass thrown behind him.  Every week other teams have players catch bad balls.  Our receivers don't impress me with their lack of effort.  They need an ass chewing by Roy Williams.  They need to look at the ball as a fucking NFL paycheck.

At least 3 people dropped passes from my memory.

Wingo - Yeah, the pass was behind him.  So what?  You wanna be a big dog then you gotta make fucking plays.  HE'S FIVE STAR CAN'T MISS RECEIVER FOR CRYING OUT LOUD.

Endries - Was the pass too hot?  Sure.  Hit him in both hands though.

Livingstone - Took his eye off the ball.

Mosely didn't drop the slant, but the effort was subpar especially when Arch got absolutely FUCKING CLOBBERED.

If our defense played with the effort of our offense they'd look as bad as the 2007 unit...

Until we fix the offensive line issues, any QB we put back there is going to suck.  Arch may never reach the potential everyone thought he had, but with an even decent offensive line, his performance would be markedly better.

Losing 4 starters and not doing anything in the portal on the OL in the offseason was inexcusable. Being too proud to take portal guys on offense is fucking stupid in this era of cfb when youre at a place with resources like Texas. We pulled an entire DT depth chart and an all world punter out but did basically jackshit on offense. What. The. FUCK.

Maybe everyone knows arch sucks except the HC and the idiots on this thread and that’s why no one responds to him as well as offense having no fucking fight

He knows but it’s more of a risk to Sark to bench him. Or maybe the recovery part of him thinks he can “fix” him.

Anyway, you're not going to catch every pass, dude. It's just not going to happen. Yes, they both dropped passes, but that was hardly the reason we went to OT against fucking Kentucky.

You can get upset all you want, but our WR's don't suck. Based on a single game you're boxing them in?

Wingo (4) and Endries (2) + Livingstone (3) make up 9/12 of Arch's TD's.

Both Wingo and Jagger have over 300+ yards receiving for the season so far. One game does not mean they "suck". Shit happens.

There is not a reasonable person saying Arch is playing well. Stop with that strawman. You have been going after Arch on every thread like you have an agenda or something. It's weird and I don't get it. Yes, he is struggling. He also needs a lot of help from his coach and his teammates who are not playing well either.

When the gameplan is simple, and Arch doesn't have too much to think about, he makes his throws.

When Sark insists on overloading his brain with complicated, slow-developing MENSA horseshit, his mechanics suffer and his aim suffers.

That is the most plausible explanation for Arch's performance. The OU gameplan allowed Arch to do what he does best.

The UK gameplan did not. If Arch transfers somewhere else, and the HC/OC lets him hang his nuts low, he is capable of winning a Heisman.

Sark is very clearly trying to make Arch into something he is not. That is dumb, and having a shitty OL makes it worse.
