Another thing: performance shirts. Every shirt I see online --- Pancho and all the rest ---- cost 130 buck and are "performance"  shirts.  Damn. I just want a shirt. A regular shirt. One made of cotton or maybe wool, as they have been my entire life.  Now I gotta buy "performance" shirts and pay a premium for it because it's a performance shirt? WTF?   How did they take something so simple, so elemental, as a shirt and manage to enshittify it?

Carhart is your friend. 80% of my casual wear is their pocket Ts short or long sleeve. Sized right, don't shrink, and sturdy.  $30.

Honestly their in-game production is a much better product than the other broadcasts imo

Amazon legitimately did a great job with their small NASCAR package, but getting beyond that seems to be too much for them

There were reports of similar when Shildt decided to step down from the Padres job. Shits well past out of hand now.

Aggie fixed the rollercoaster in dramatic fashion, OU wins, UT loses to Georgia for the third time in almost a calender year.

Guadalupe river trout had a horrible hold over year, worst in recent memory perhaps due to rain raising release temps to unsustainable levels this summer.  Saltwater Fishing, especially Trout near Poc is the worst in my lifetime.

My father in law just rolled in for a month.  He likes to cook fish in the microwave. Not reheat fish in microwave like a garden variety asshole, I am talking blast a shit piece of salmon or tilapia from some Chinese ditch for 7 minutes from raw to well fucking done.  Fucking gross.

Luckily i have other options.  But my house smells horrible a day later. Enshitened if you will

Went to new barber today.  Get hair cut.  Pay said barber and ask if that is the correct price( with tip.)

"yes, but my regulars pay ($5 higher) this."

Why would your regulars who make appointments and are reliable on both times and revenue pay a $5 premium?  WTF am I missing?

I'm a tightwad, but not when it comes to mom&pops.  They most definitely qualify.  Just was trying to understand the logic there.

Still makes no sense.  Why charge more for someone who is a better customer/ lower risk to cancel/ whatever?

So many of the products and services today are becoming enshitified, it’s actually a pleasant surprise when you are a customer of products that aren’t enshitified. I thought about that when I renewed my AllTrails subscription. So far, still an awesome product.

I was super-skeptical of those for tshirts and the like as it's really just polyester.  That is DryFit, CoolMax, cooldrysupermaxfit, whatever.

But, I started mountain biking, a very sweaty endeavor in Texas, and damned if they aren't kinda the shit.

But the cheap ass ones from Walmart or Amazon are as good as any.

BCG cheap ass shirts from Academy do the same job for half the price or less of Nike, Adidas, etc.

Tech Jesus / immamac alter ego with some excellent reporting on price inflation and taxpayer fleecing due to AI data center debt spending.

If you weren't aware, DDR5 system memory has more than doubled in price over the last couple months due to AI datacenter demand. Memory manufacturers have been shuttering consumer lines in favor of putting the same silicon into datacenters for a bigger margin funded by debt

Businesses respond to market conditions.  Someone will respond to the subtextual higher than market returns offered by the doubled in price DDR5 consumer system memory market, OR the consumer market has been subsidized in the recent past.

These businesses have been previously found guilty of price fixing and antitrust violations. You did not watch the video and are just replying with your usual "NUH UH" to anything and everything I post. Go eat some applesauce, grampaw.

There has been no subsidy for consumer pricing on silicon, it's not just that there is no evidence of this, but it's easy to refute because the prices for consumer products in memory per gb are demonstrably higher than what hyperscalers buy at scale with long term agreements.

The main issue with this isn't supply/demand dynamics, it's an artificial demand bump and an intentional supply shortage. The primary thing that will happen from this which benefits only the hyperscalers and memory companies will be that there won't be memory available for consumer PCs.

What has happened is people can run their own inference for cheaper than buying a cloud service and they are trying to remove the option for most people and have it be inaccessible. The rest of the consumer PC market be damned.

The cost of a single board computer including all components - even the CPU and storage is $35 and now the memory alone will cost $35 dollars. This will either put the SBC manufacturer out of business with no margins or they will increase price and the value won't be there for the typical consumer of those items.

This is way beyond normal commodity cycle things, this is intentional scarcity that impacts individual consumers and not large corporate entities by design.

When the market is skewed by stupid debt financing that creates an unsustainable bubble, that's a problem.  It's not like we haven't seen this umpteen times before.  Loads of debt financing flows to asset X, inflating the price of asset X which is pretty harmful to ordinary consumers that actually need asset X.  Then, the debt bubble inevitably pops, consumers are stuck with asset X that they overpaid for, and we all have to bail out the mega-players who got fucked to the tune of billions of dollars for their Vegas gambles on said debt financing.

It's legal.  It's just dumb, harmful, and destructive.  Unfettered "capitalism" has its downsides.  This is a known one, and not only have we done nothing to mitigate it, we've gone under the hood to remove all speed governors and soup up the engine, so when we hit the wall, we hit it at ludicrous speed.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

the video rant's initial complaint is that the government subsidized the market participants with tax breaks and now consumers are getting screwed.

So no it isn't, "unfettered capitalism" that is the root of this situation.

And if there are illegal actions being taken by the manufacturers then yes, the government should prosecute those cases.   However, generally I am not in favor of price controls or market interventions forcing markets to be serviced because of a government bureaucrats interpretation of "fair".

The phenomenon emphasizes the wisdom and need for real anti-trust law and enforcement.  Sure, let these fuckers go out there and leverage to the hilt, and crash and burn.  Just none of this "too big to fail" shit (which, when you let one or two entity's become that dominant, is an actual thing -- their failure could lead to total economy disaster).  It is bad policy to (1) allow an enterprise to get that big/economically dominant, (2) gamble with its own life, (3) lose, and then (4) say "nope, you can't let us crash, we're too big and too important, use the people's money to bail us out."  The thing is, item (4) is not untrue in many such cases.  So....don't let it become true.

But, we have no interest in doing that.  As a society, we live to serve monopolies and oligarchies, and you and I have no purpose other than to be a source of revenue for those things.  That's fucking fucked.  The economy should serve and benefit its citizens, not vice-versa.

I'm all for that.

Eventually we will get to a point where the government won't or can't(hopefully the former before the latter) prop up excessive risk takers.   At this point that change in expectations is really going to fucking hurt.

No disagreement there, but the way we GET there is by ensuring that none of those excessive risk takers are large enough to be a load-bearing pillar of the economy, such that their failure would cause larger collapse.  Don't make YOUR risk so great that it would materially damage OUR economy.

Kind of like we don't let people use their homes as bomb-making factory - because your failure would cause massive harm to surrounding structures.

The underlying social contract involves such trade-offs.  If we want to encourage people to take large risks in the pursuit of large reward and large "innovation" (and maybe we do, there's definitely a good case to be made), then we should also ensure that they - and they alone - bear the burden of that risk.  Because, spoiler: they, and they alone SURE AS SHIT will reap all of the reward if it pays off.

That's some bullshit.  Great poetry comes from human authors, like James Joyce.  Behold the tear-inducing beauty of this work:

"At every fuck I gave you your shameless tongue came bursting out through your lips and if a gave you a bigger stronger fuck than usual, fat dirty farts came spluttering out of your backside. You had an arse full of farts that night, darling, and I fucked them out of you, big fat fellows, long windy ones, quick little merry cracks and a lot of tiny little naughty farties ending in a long gush from your hole. It is wonderful to fuck a farting woman when every fuck drives one out of her. I think I would know Nora’s fart anywhere. I think I could pick hers out in a roomful of farting women. It is a rather girlish noise not like the wet windy fart which I imagine fat wives have. It is sudden and dry and dirty like what a bold girl would let off in fun in a school dormitory at night. I hope Nora will let off no end of her farts in my face so that I may know their smell also."

Man.  That fella could WRITE.
