It’s also why we are such a low IQ and sloppy team too.

Is this actually true relative to Mack’s final few years, then Strong’s, then Herman’s? I feel like Sark’s teams have been significantly smarter and more disciplined and less turnover prone*

*except probably fumbles from RBs

To be fair, Blue still coughs it up in Dallas, too.

We shoot ourselves in the foot with false starts and illegal formations on a regular basis.  We're not undisciplined in the sense of stupid unsportsmanlike penalties, but we do have mental lapses frequently.

The only fix is to remove officiating at the conference level. Make officials regional and they get assignments based on competency. So, a crew in the Southeast could work CUSA, SEC, BIG 12, Sun Belt, and American conference games.

A crew in the midwest could work B1G, MAC, etc.

But the biggest problem I see is gambling and prop bets, there is no way you are going to find 600+ honest dudes to work a college football weekend.

fuck no

That would mean we could possibly get big12 refs

hopefully we use the bye and next week to practice that shit over and over

We haven’t been a disciplined team since our last trip to the National championship.

No Sark team has been what I’d call disciplined or a smart team. Our talent has been so much better we’ve been able to overcome our mistakes vs the Strong and Mensa eras

Fight me.

C'mon, man. What could go wrong with our regional ref crews being full of Aggy, Tech, & Baylor grads?

They aren't Big 12 refs, they are college football refs, what part of no conference affliated officiating did you not understand?

They’re still the same people, whether they have a conference patch or not.

Maybe I just classify these differently than unsportsmanlike, roughing, late hits, or unnecessary holds that bring back TDs. As you said, stupid penalties.

False starts and illegal formations often seem like a result of crowd noise, excess pre-snap motion, cute formations, asking OL/TE to execute difficult blocks, etc.

Conference officiating effectively regional already? I do agree with the premise of taking it out of the conference hands and doing as you say but make it national where best games get best crews?

The ball hasn't even been thrown yet, and the defender is stopping him from running his route. It's one thing if he was running with the receiver, but he's not doing that at all.

Same dipshit who had multiple PIs/defensive holding calls against us last year. It's what he does.

Yes, he is... well, trying to, any road. Defender is not required to get out of his way. It matters how he got there, but the clip doesn't show that. From what we can see, the defender is back-pedalling and looking back, and the receiver pushes him over backwards.

I think that entire front line shift of 4-5 guys at the same time is absolutely a simulated snap to get the OL to move.  It’s one thing if the guy in front of you is moving around, but when they all do it on que and your peripheral is picking up movement everywhere…

and that’s a UGA special other teams have picked up, and it seems like bullshit

UGA will OPI your DBd every pass play until the refs call it at least twice in a row.  Those bitches make a living off of pushing the envelope.

I counted at least 5 pretty egregious uncalled holding penalties against Vanderbilt. This is on top of all the other shit they fucked up like the missed DPI, multiple missed false starts, 2 point attempt, Pavia flopping out of bounds, and the Vandy WR throwing Manny to the ground. Just an unbelievable performance by the refs.

Held Lance Jackson.

LT false started and RT held Burke.

Held Burke again. Literally the very next play after the clip above.

Held Guilbeau.

Held Colin Simmons.

there is enough money in college football to move 200 guys 1000 miles a week with a pre-negotiated contract with the big3 for first class airfare with 10 day advance notice so that no aggy, rape, tceh, thief or pig is never reffing a Texas game

NFL referees have an average annual salary of around $205,000, but pay varies by experience, with new officials making between $100,000 and $150,000, and veteran officials earning closer to $250,000 or more. They receive a base salary plus performance bonuses and higher pay for playoff games, which can be in the range of $3,000–$5,000 per game, and the Super Bowl can pay an additional $40,000–$50,00

there are 17 crews of 7 each for a total of ~120 nfl refs in the pool - let's call it an average salary of $200k - that's $24m - that same spend can ensure every b1g and sec league game - and ooc between the b1g and sec - and the playoffs - is called by professionals who GO TO JAIL if they are caught in the cookie jar because if they spend that much money, the leagues will prosecute and won't just sweep fuckery under the rug - that level of spend will ensure there is always someone who wants your job and won't think twice about flagging that fucker kirby every other down for being 3 yards out on the field

spend nothing, get nothing results

Yep. Pretty much what I was thinking. But you and I know that 'travel costs' would be the very first excuse outta their wordholes.

Let’s not act like professional refs are exactly choir boys either.

Sark needs to get in the refs ear without being a douche like Kirby. Mack was a master at this (when he gave a shit)- and knew when to press the issue for a particularly egregious jobbing.

That would require him to look up from his play sheet though.

He was all over the refs toward the end of the Vandy game.  Most animated I've seen him in a while.  I don't disagree he should make that a bit more regular of an occurrence but also don't think it's a bad thing to get the reputation that if you are complaining it's probably egregious. I don't know how Kirby's bitch ass gets calls when he cries nonstop all game long.  At some point refs are going to screw him over intentionally UGA "brand" be damned.  Hopefully that starts with our game.

Worked out super well in Lubbock that one time

And all the non-holding OU got called for in the Cotton Bowl during his entire tenure

We just want a fair game.

Last HUGE away game at Alabama they gave us a fair game, after playing them at home with rig 12 refs fucking us over...

Great stuff.  so hilarious that these guys just ignore holding completely when Texas is rushing the passer and even when the hold happens right at the QB.

Full clip isn't much better, this is a terrible call.

Look, I'm prepared to be shouted down as a regard but...that looks like DPI to me. Not at the end of the play but towards the beginning. You can jam the WR at the LOS with about 5 yards of leeway, but you can't just jam the dude his whole route. I don't have a perfect view, but it looks like the DB is impeding the WR's progress all the way into the EZ.

Just looking at the end of the play I would not have thrown that flag, maybe I would have even flagged the WR for "pushing" the DB. But watching the whole thing, it looks like the WR is just trying to run his route through the DB and the DB only stops riding him to go for the ball.

These fucking posts, man. I appreciate you doing the work to pull these, but they're putting my blood pressure through the roof. The refs were so goddamn terrible all game. The ones on Burke and Lance Jackson are especially egregious and were obvious in real time. The dude literally had Burke spun around he yanked him so hard.

It's not the NFL.  There's no 5-yard rule or illegal contact.

What you describe above is exactly what happens and it is just good defense.

Posted

Let’s start with the most dramatic example. Safety standing 15 yards off the ball, and never moves the entire play. Wr runs a route and runs into the stationary safety and they both fall down. Is that opi, dpi, or no foul?  Does it depend on the league?

Posted (edited)

If the WR is making a play on the ball, it's no foul.

If it's random and doesn’t impact the play, it won't be called.

If he's in the middle of his route and the contact prevents the defender from defending a pass that's OPI.

---

In the NFL, it's the same.
