Man. In my First Communion picture, I'm wearing a 1970s light burgundy suit.  Fucking LIGHT BURGUNDY.  That's a goddamn shitty wine, not a legitimate color, FFS.

Yeah and the treasury secretary is taking over. Somewhat similar to what happened with the Transportation secretary and Nasa.

I'll go if it's at a Catholic church just for the possibility of seeing the look on the Protestants' faces when they realize it's gonna be a full Mass.

I love Christianity but it's hard not to despise certain Christians especially those who are so far removed from what the New Testament preaches and who use the Gospel to justify their hatred of others.

We did a full Mass wedding once. Never again. And then no alcohol at the reception.

The annoying ones my wife knew that made her want to attend this wedding did not drink any alcohol except the offering wine.

I mean.....that's literally the biggest upside of every Catholic wedding: the bar at the reception.  Shit, even if it's a Texas czech catholic wedding in some dinky town, there's at least a coupla kegs at the KC Hall for the reception.

A booze-free Catholic wedding is like a sex-free orgy: utterly pointless.

I think God didn't love her by making be from that area but to balance that out, her preacher counseled me to keep her as far away from there as possible when we were doing our pre-marriage counseling. I definitely went with his advice.

Offer it up, as Sister Perpetual Help would routinely say. All for Jesus through Mary.

Yeah, I've been there once when the university was recruiting my kid for soccer.  Before we got in the car to drive back to Austin we gave each other the "oh hell no" glance.

"I was in Wichita Falls for a wedding.  A Catholic wedding.  Where the reception was alcohol-free.  The long drive home down plenty of barren stretches of road gave me ample time to ponder exactly which of my many sins that experience was punishment for, but in spite of my multitude of sins . . . some of which are so appalling, I didn't enjoy even a brief memory of them . . . I couldn't come up with a single one worthy of the punishment of a dry Catholic wedding reception in Wichita Falls."

There.  Just wrote the first paragraph of my novel.

About a week before I got married in a six-minute Methodist wedding ceremony, I had the brilliant idea to call someone at the Catholic church to see if I needed to fill out some form so I, a Catholic, could get permission to get married with the Methodists.  I called a Msgr. Botik at Christ the King Catholic Church, and after I told him my situation, he told me I had to cancel the wedding.

"If you marry that woman, in that Church, you will be a heartbeat over hell."  I told him I would get back to him.  He actually called me and left voice messages the next few days.

Christ the King is the Park Cities church.  I kicked myself for not calling Holy Trinity Catholic Church - the gay Catholic Church in Oak Lawn.  I actually walked in and told a priest over there what the Monsignor had told me. "Oh that's Father Botik - he's pre-Vatican II.  Get married, and then in a couple of years bring you wife by and maybe we can convert her."

Yeah.  I grew up Catholic (catholic schools, the whole 9 yards, which also meant that some of my lifelong friends are dyed-in-the-wool Catholics).  When I told some of them I was marrying my non-Catholic wife (at the time, Methodist, as she grew up in the Methodist church), a couple of them even commented "but....she's not Catholic!"  Nope, she's not.  And, we're getting married in her family's church (St. Luke's - gotDAMN is that a white folks protestant church).  To make it even better, I'm now active in leadership in the PCUSA Presbyterian church, where my wife is an ordained minister.  Kinda makes my friends' heads spin, but the cool part is that the priests and nuns who educated both of us (yep, wife went to Catholic school for a while - she was regularly "the protestant" in various classes) think it's pretty cool, and we've had a lot of good visits over theology with them over the years.

Naah, here's how this plays out.

Quote

The news, however, has spurred concern that the military could be deployed within the US and abroad to combat sanctioned criminal groups like the Sinaloa Cartel, Tren de Aragua and Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13).

First, authorize the US military to engage in combat actions within the US against "invading terrorist groups Tren de Aragua, Sinaloa Cartel, and El Night-o Shift-o at El Taco Bell."  Then, declare -- unilaterally, without any actual due process or adjudication by any body (remember, "you don't get due process if you're an illegal" is their firm position) -- that this group or that group of brown people here or there are members of such terrorist groups, and hit em with Fallujah-style combat operations.  Sure, a few walls will get blasted down, a few belts of .50 cal will be unloaded into a fucking apartment or fruit-pickers' shack or whatnot, but why do you hate America and purifying the blood of our country?

This is a plan to use military force against whoever the regime wishes, inside our own borders.  Which, again, they've told us repeatedly is EXACTLY what they intend to do.

Yeah flooding the economy with money when tariffs are already inflationary should work out well. But Cletus will be thrilled because money.

We're paying down the debt!  No, we're printing more money!  What exactly are we doing?

Kirk is a catch-22. Yes, that condensed, creepy, smarmy little face is asking to be punched. But any subsequent change in his appearance couldn't be anything but an improvement.
