Bobby actually was the one guy who predicted 9-3 including a loss to Florida. Gerry and the others all predicted 10-2.

I could not trust my memory to say what Bobby’s prediction was so thank you. I know Bobby was questioning the offensive line and Ian Boyd was questioning our secondary. How prophetic. I certainly do not feel like the wool was pulled over my head by offseason sunshine pumping.

When is the portal closing? I'll check back when the dust has settled and we've settled on our 3rd and 4th choices.

Nothing is sane when young men and $$$ is involved.

January 16th. Players on the two teams competing in the CFP national championship game on Jan. 19 will get an additional five-day period from Jan. 20 to 24.

So yes, it is still relatively early in the game.

This doesn't make any sense to me. Can our coaching staff not reasonably approximate a guys size when watching film? Was he CGIed in Wyoming games this year?

Not to mention the centerpiece of our high school OL class this year is a dude who is like 260 lbs.

This blows my mind. The utter lack of competence on the GM side.

Similarly, on their livestream just now, Gerry just said Texas won't make moves on Tre Richardson or other WRs until they get the Cam Coleman decision. Isn't that kinda stupid? The best alternatives might be gone by then..

Who are we to doubt the decision-making of Brandon "John Nash" Harris?

Yeah, Coleman’s visit to Tech is tomorrow now, not today, so time is a wasting.

This is bit if concern for me and we do this as fans. Going from terrible at a position to mediocre can be the difference between the playoffs and the Citrus bowl. Not every portal addition needs to be a potential All-SEC pick and NFL player. You could make a credible argument that LG cost Texas a trip to the playoffs. As much as want the 2026 Texas team to have 2001 Maimi talent, I really just want to see a team without any obvious holes.

Who gives a shit about Livingstone. If Sark thought he was the piece to be opposite Wingo then he would have paid him. He didn't think he was worth it. Livingstone rightfully got pissed and bolted after being told.

I just think it's hilarious OU has sank to the depths of being a program that takes our trash we didn't think was good enough to win a title with.

3) Stop with the "I know a thing here but I'm not going to reveal anything about the super-important thing I know." First, this reeks of hedging and ass covering for later. Second, it's just pumping yourself, self-congratulating, and lording information over others. But most importantly, it's useless info for the audience. At a minimum change it to "I know a thing about the [position] or [coach] and will reveal it to you at X time or under Y condition."

regarding your third point - I generally agree that this fucking annoying (with a caveat). Don't tell me you know something but aren't going to share it because that means nothing to me. I get that it bolsters their reputation to show they have connections, but that's not what you get paid for. You get paid to tell us things. If you can't tell us, that's fine. I get it. But don't say anything then, because saying you know a secret you can't share is just annoying and self serving.

The caveat I mentioned - I don't mind them telling us that something is going to drop later but that they can't tell us now. That is actually valuable information because it tells me to keep my head on swivel. I also don't mind if they tell us they know something but can't share when there's a "wink wink nod nod" quality to it. Like, the secret is probably obvious to anyone paying close attention. But in both of those situations, they're actually sharing information in an indirect way.

It's already been discussed to death, but I couldn't agree more. I like Bobby, Gerry, and the guys at OTF, but I don't take their word as gospel and they usually don't either. They hedge plenty, but people hear what they want to hear and ignore the rest. I also agree with @SydneyCarton rant - why are people so hung up on the semantics of whatever phrase people use? If they had used some phrase other than "going all in" would the complainers be happier? What exact language did you want? I have to assume that lot of the more vocal whiners on this thread have not been following Texas recruiting very long, or at least not recruiting from the portal, and don't realize how fluid things are.

OTF has earned their credibility, but the thing is still unpredictable. It is what it is, they can't change that. They're going to get things wrong, and you can't lose your fucking mind every time they do. Especially if them being "wrong" relates more to the words they used than actual facts.

Other than the the two Michigan guys, it sounds like we haven't set up visits with any OL, which is mind boggling to me (maybe it shouldn't be with Flood at this point). RB/WR don't matter that much unless OL is massively upgraded, which was obvious last year.

Apparently, the Michigan guys are the answer. If those guys don't come Texas' way, plan B is going to be conjured out of thin air.

Texas feels best about that guy, Zion Williams and the LB from Wisconsin.

Raleek Brown may want $1M, but no one is offering him that. Texas offered Wisner $500k and he took it as an insult. His agent talked to like 30 schools and they ended up signing with FSU for under $600k. Smart move by Wisner, totally.

If Texas doesn't land the Michigan OL guys, go ahead and light the cigarettes, boys.

The usual suspect, our beloved former SEC QB and current GM, seems to completely confident in landing every target at the top of Texas' board.

No, @Vertigo is incorrect. Bobby predicted 10-2 with losses to OSU and Florida. Gerry said 11-1, but also said he could see anything from 9-3 to 11-1.

Huh? How is that on the GM? What's he supposed to do - fly up there and measure the kid?

I'd think part of bringing the kid in is to get those measurements and to vet him.

I'm all for criticizing staff when they do a poor job (Flood), but at least be somewhat reasonable.

(ETA - don't take this as a defense of Harris.)

People on this board are a lot more comfortable bashing Harris than they are Sark, but Sark is the one keeping him employed, so that shit is Sark’s fault anyway.

I’d guess 3rd-4th round

Scouting college football and identifying the limited pool of players who enter the portal that fit what our coaches want. They should know exactly what the kids height and weight without spending limited first weekend time on someone who doesn't fit what the coach wants.

OTF just did a live stream and Bobby/Gerry did a little good cop / bad cop on the Michigan OLs. Bobby expressing confidence, Gerry saying the Michigan visits usually aren't a good sign.

Also apparently the Wisco LB is visiting tOSU now

Idk how much of it comes from the staff vs 9.95ers but overconfidence certainly seems to be a theme.

It's 100% on Sark who allows results like flying people in to be measured

A few thoughts from this train wreck of a thread:

If you’re hung up on “all-in”, did you not watch that exact same thing happen with the Cowboys? Jerry said all-in and got roasted. It probably wasn’t the best term to use by the 9.95rs but don’t read too much into a generic hyphenated term.

As to all the bickering, as I posted elsewhere a few weeks ago, that is part of the charm of surly. I’ve developed pretty thick skin over the years.

However, when the bickering starts really causing reasonably good posters to not post their thoughts because of fear of being lambasted not for a stupid post but for a different viewpoint or innocent thought, that’s not productive or good for site content. And we want good content.

With that said, I’ve been an ass many times over the years because of what I felt were stupid takes, but I decided to be a little more civil going forward, because it’s good for site content. A little. Not a lot.

Finally, I’ve met Bobby, Sydney, CTJ, and others on this site, and know who scramblyn is, and the shit that erupted this morning isn’t helpful. These are all good people as far as I know.

Baugh and Wilson staying - Sumrall got the UF boosters in line in a hurry.

For the past few years the boosters have been in line. They got Wilson from Oregon post signing day. I can only imagine what they had to do to flip him. I don’t care what signals were sent out, Baugh was always going to be very difficult to land and that is what should have been communicated to anyone following his situation.

I still think Texas can upgrade over Wisner but I hope everyone understands losing a player of his caliber won’t be easy to replace with an obvious upgrade out of the portal.

This is dumb. He didn’t come in at the expense of anyone else

And why does the NFL bother measuring prospects at the combine? After all, they should already know heights, weights, arm lengths, wingspans, hand sizes, etc

This is an honest question, and yes I know naive, but if the school lists someone at 6'4" 315, and his coaches say yes he's around that size, and you watch some film and that's hard to tell. Then you invite him in and he's 6'2" 285, where was the breakdown?

6 minutes ago, The Dog said:

Ask them to send them pictures of someone measuring both prior to booking the trip?

I’m sure there’s a way to frame it without coming across in an offensive way… Shit, you could even overnight them the tools to do it as a positive gesture.

“We know that roster height and weights are often embellished across the country. We want to confirm your listed biometrics prior to booking your trip.” Or some shit like that.

It's not just WR either. The Wisconsin LB is supposedly visiting tOSU now. Meanwhile the Auburn guy has committed elsewhere and I'm sure the Cal guy is lining up other visits.

At OL, you have the two Michigan guys up in the air and other options are dropping off the map. Heck, ATM already landed two SEC iOLs.

Every school, not just us, brings in a bunch of transfers and does due diligence on heights and weights and athleticism and occasionally cuts a guy. We're not unique, in a positive or negative sense.

Are we trying to say a kid from NJ was a whiff by the staff? He took visits to aggy, Michigan state and Rutgers. Lol

Just now, Fud said:

I solely answered the question of how it could be done. Not saying they can’t visit. It’s really no different than a background check or professional license verification process in concept. Does the target meet minimum standards?

However, if it’s true that Flood was done immediately after the height and weight mismatch, it was a huge waste of time for all parties involved. That visit could have gone to a more qualified target.

Brown wouldn’t be the only RB add. They still need to bring a bigger more every down type of back - even if that guy has a pretty 50/50 split carry wise with Brown.
