They do fit my hypothesis. Barnes is unproven, sure he would probably get more snaps next year but no idea how good he’ll be. He didn’t exactly jump off the tape in the Citrus bowl. Zina’s is a bit more proven but has not to date provided production that can’t be replaced IMO. Same with Lefau and Moore. These kids ask are exceeding their production and these schools should be colluding to reset the market for those types at this point.

Your hypothesis was about depth pieces, if you're going to include starters and proven players, then it's not much of a hypothesis.

I think the NFL should go to only single year contracts.

Need to do this like college basketball. Fuck recruiting 5 stars and one and dones at this point

Only recruit 2 and 3 stars that will stay 3-4 years

yep and use the portal as the main focus to fill in while those 2 & 3 stars develop or leave the program.

Also his Oregon State bio says he's an ag major, enjoys hiking, camping, and fishing, and wants to be a cattle rancher after football. Something tells me Austin's not a great fit.

Yeah, when people think of cattle ranches, who the fuck thinks of Oregon.

I've been in a sales for 20 years, and I lose or win deals from time to time that aren't about money, but it's the exception. I have a hard time believing there isn't some opacity with what's being offered by the other schools.

Your sales experience isn't apples to apples when it comes to recruiting players. Money is a large factor, but so is perceived fit. Consider that Brunner and Alliegro were both from far northern states playing for Wisconsin for instance. Indiana was a much better fit for Brunner both geographically and because his position coach was there. Add to that, their current success. I'm sure their offer was also competitive. Similar factors at play with Alliegro and Ohio State except his position coach.

With the two Michigan OL, you figure it was much easier to stay. Whittingham is a great hire and brought his OL coach from Utah. And I would not also be at all surprised if they didn't plant seeds of doubt about Flood with the shit show he fielded for most of the season. While the money difference reported is substantial, their offers to stay are still a lot and could sell on draft potential.

Honestly, I think I can understand any coach that bolts college for the NFL as a casual observer of this shit show, and Saban’s retirement is making an awful lot of sense

Saban retired because Bama is poor relatively. And because the number of players and price of poker went way up.

The idea of having to re-recruit your roster every year is wild

It makes actual hs recruiting mean less right now than it ever has at any time before in the sport.

I'm all for focusing time and money on proven player acquisitions than hoping to swing and hit repeatedly every year.

I said depth and development but maybe I should have been frank and just said marginal talent on the roster since you are so bored you want to argue semantics.

Single-game contracts would really take it up a notch. New draft every Tuesday morning.

Lazy? Or a master at conserving energy.

With the Out list, I can coach them to the ACC Title.

While it brings me great joy to see this absolute cluster fuck madness happening for all the years that everybody kept saying we need to pay college athletes, blah blah blah when they got free education, and all the other bullshit that went along with it this is what you get However, I am curious if after the last couple years of this nonsense if we’re gonna see any institutional rules get put in place two year contracts you’re paid to play football. If you don’t play you forfeit your pay return money back, etc. they want to be treated like big boys and have agents and negotiate deals. There has to be some type of return on that deal that includes if you choose to sit out bowl games I’m sure all the pro NL guys will scream fuck that but at some point this wild West bullshit is gotta come to an end. And yes, I’m using voice to text so I don’t give a fuck about the grammar.

on field coaches? Didn't he transfer to ousux?

I know we have discussed this before but I would seriously only sign 1-2 wide receivers out of high school each class and rely on the portal for that position. Between the cost, bust rate and personalities of receiver I’m not sure the payback is there on freshman wide receivers.

So we'll be totally mediocre but bah gawd the guys we got want to be here!

It’s not semantics because I don’t think every player that's leaving is marginal talent. That’s just cope.

Every 2025 recruit (especially the high 4 & 5 stars) that just signed around the country is already forming their portal strategy for next year with their newly acquired agents after seeing the numbers being tossed around now.

What's really crazy is we're all talking about how this will affect HS recruiting, but the truth is who even knows what the rules will be like 2 years from now? You could switch up your whole strategy to match the times and then boom another lawsuit comes through or whatever and it's all up in the air again.

No flipping way did we just lose ffrench. Damnit I was hoping he was going to ball out next year. Son of a bitch. Do they hate Jackson? Sark? Or everyone is just going to portal?

I read you. I incorrectly took your original question as rhetorical and sarcastic.

I just don’t believe we’ll come out on the other side of this positively in basically all position groups given how short this one portal window.

You thought Sydney was being sarcastic about something? Sydney? He's such a lamb, I don't know how you could make that mistake.

Nakos

Texas continues to add pieces through the transfer portal and is trending to land another target. LSU defensive lineman Zion Williams was on campus earlier this week, and the Longhorns are in a strong position to close out the recruitment.

After speaking with sources, I’ve logged a prediction for Williams to land with the Longhorns. He entered the transfer portal with a do-not-contact tag. The 6-foot-4, 360-pound defensive tackle will have four years of eligibility remaining.

Williams played high school football at Lufkin (Lufkin, TX), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 492 overall recruit in the 2025 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted algorithm that compiles all major recruiting media services.

I'm not sure what's worse at this point, Texas's portal performance of the shrieking coming from a number of posters on this thread. Fuck me. Imagine a world where folks are collectively pissing their pants over losing a spare TE, a bust at WR, guys coming back after agreeing to terms and saying "No thanks 4x that amount," a couple of WRs and a RB who put up mid #s and demanded max dollars, i'm some OL guys that were so fucking bad they couldn't see playing time last year in a an OL that was so bad it was like watching a live feed of clubbing baby seals every Saturday in the fall.

Fucking pull yourselves together people. Yes, we're missing on top targets, but it isn't for lack of paying. Something tells me we're going to field a team in the fall, and something tells me this won't end up as bad as it feels right now. 4k players in the portal, at some point Texas is going to have time to evaluate and sign some motherfuckers better than the other 3700 who are going to get zero other than a college scholarship.

Wyoming IOL that visited to West Virginia.

Soooo.... Not exactly a high major landing spot.

That number 1 recruiting class we got has to be stripped down at this point.

I only hope the staff adjusts to the new realities and allocates time and money appropriately moving forward.

And the portal is still open for another 8 days......

And people keep entering - it won't just be us.

You were hoping that because you're consistently one of the dumbest, least informed posters on this thread. You should thank god every day that Spider2yBanana exists. And if memory serves, prone to the occasional racist remark.

Ffrench was an evaluation bust, he cost a lot of money, his transfer is perfectly fucking fine. As has been said, but reading isn't your strong suit.

At what point can we stop taking players from the portal? After classes start in August? I know there won’t be really any qualified takes at that point, but I think it’s important to point out roster acquisition doesn’t have to be completed by 1/16; only portal entry ends then.

Yeah. But we'll have more money to play with than almost all the rest of the guys playing. At some point, that's going to even out and equalize for the guys who actually want to play and get paid.

What is also instructive is where our players end up. If a guy leaves that you once worried about and he ends up at a shit program that is losing all of its own good players to the portal, that should be a tell that maybe losing him was not that big of a deal.
