Did he skip a meeting or did he ask to sleep in because they blew it out last night?

Didn't he mostly suck this year? Probably is losing his job to a younger player or portal target. He just got eaten alive by the Miami DL.

Reminds me of Texas head football coach John Mackovic (for you youngins that weren't alive yet) refusing to recruit Drew Brees (right in town playing for Westlake) to Texas because Mackovic thought he was "too short" regardless of what he could do. FFS

Brees blew out his knee as a senior in HS.

Junior year. Won the state championship his senior year

Right. Texas and A&M both stopped recruiting him once he blew out the knee. I don’t think that was a bad calculation, especially with knee surgeries of the era.

Well, just in case folks aren’t getting it, and I don’t think folks really are, here’s one for you.

The scouts really liked the King guy from Wyoming. Thought he’d be a good scheme fit and had great technique. So he gets in the portal and his first visit he’s invited to is Texas.

The guy shows up for the visit and Flood immediately nixes him as a candidate for a scholarship. Not big enough.

I, for one, wholeheartedly trust Flood at this point to crush his evaluations through the eye test versus the work the scouting team has put in watching hundreds of hours of tape over the past few months. Woo woo!!! Wooooo!!

Yeah it's hard not to be pessimistic on where the OL is trending. I think the Michigan C/G is an obvious take if he can be had but I'm not sure putting a square peg (Baker) into a round hole (Guard) is a good idea just to get the Michigan RT on board. Flood has been horrible on IOL evaluations to the point that if his preference is to play Baker at G, I start thinking it's probably not going to go well. Also you have BO&W saying Baker is a G in the NFL (narrator: "He is not."), so another sign that's stupid.

We'll see how it all plays out of course. I'm sure there's several names we haven't heard yet that will pop up on the radar just as King did. But passing on a three year FBS starter with strong pass blocking grades, from a program that's done a pretty good job finding unheralded OL, because of vibes (his listed weight is avtually above Hutson and Robertson, though I know those can be fudged to varying degrees) does not seem like a great start.

Like the early returns on defense and I know you've mentioned issues with Issac Brown and toughness/durability but he's a career 7.7 ypc guy on 266 carries. I can tolerate a bit of bullshit for that.

I’m surprised we don’t see more of these portal recruitments end without visits, especially for the high profile guys. The decision process for dudes Cam Coleman isn’t coming down to the weight room or how nice the business school professors are. He has to have a good idea in his head of which way he is leaning and his agent takes care of the numbers part.

I guess you take advantage of the free trips and being wined and dined.

Parker is a sooner

Honestly not surprised if it ends up true. They need outside receivers in the worst way, and while Livingstone is simply P4 replacement level, he isntantly becomes their best at the position. He'll get a ton of run there and I'm not surprised they would give him the crazy money Texas wouldn't. Probably not going to tell them much they don't know about the Texas offense but that's a nice bonus for them too.

He better know where Jelani McDonald is on every snap next year though.

NFL free agents do visits too. Obviously it varies by player but scheme fit, meshing with the staff, etc. do generally matter. And it's a two way street, a chance to make an impression that maybe solidifies a staff's view.

What did you expect massive news on day one? No one we really are dying for signed today.

Except we did get the big DT we wanted.

I want Indiana to win it all because it would be cool for college football but a small part of me wants them to get embarassed so the Cignetti circle jerkers will stop bringing him up in every thread

When the 9.95ers said we were after Cam Coleman, they actually meant the Cam Coleman of deep snappers.

They would just move on to Dan Lanning if Oregon wins this week.

Can’t believe we’re signing transfers at positions of need before other transfers at positions of need. What is Sark even doing?
