I'm not defending anyone. I'm saying that this isn't the portal of last year where you land somewhere it is meaningful financially because it doesn't matter if schools have collectives or not anymore. Every team has at least a 10M warchest this go around. I can't believe how hard it is for some of you to understand. It's like you haven't been paying attention at all.

To be explicit. Things that worked in 2023 and 2024 simply do not work at all today. Mechanically they were still at least similar to 2022, the numbers got bigger but it was largely the same.

2026 is a complete reset. The rules have changed completely and so has the compensation across the board.

First of all Owens is out of sight, out of mind. For you to point out that he’s getting a big bag from …checks notes…..Arkansas st….who cares? Doesn’t change my life one bit. Stroh getting a bag too right? Don’t care. Wish them well but also glad that they’re gone. Owens is at Arkansas state, not even Arkansas. He’s not some hot prospect who wasn’t given a chance. If he were worth anything he’d be at a power 2 school no? Or at least the big 12?

This seems like a strange portal pitch.

It does make a considerable difference in net pay. A school like UCF should absolutely use that pitch.

We need to tell every teenager on this team to take a 50% paycut or they can get their ass in the portal. I don't want a single starter on the field that isn't able to crush beers at a bar

You are fucking retarded. I'm so over this thread it's impressive that some of you continue to function in society.

Pro sports teams certainly use it - not surprised it’s made its way to college recruiting.

The difference between Florida and California on 1M is over 125k dollars. That is a huge selling point.

Have you seen society lately?

In private or with agents, sure. On social media though? Seems a little desperate but when you're trying to dig out of the bottom of the Big 12, I guess anything helps.

You should probably step back from the ledge instead of constantly insulting your user base. Idk that’s just me though.

I think it would be neat if we got a good player today. Maybe even a couple of them. The possibilities are endless.

That’s such a novel idea! I’m on board. Maybe some second team all conference guy

It’s UCF. In relative terms, they are desperate. How do they stand out from other schools? How does Baylor stand out from other schools? How does UH stand out from other schools?

They have to sell every perceived minor advantage.

You are never going to believe who else built two semi-finals teams

At least one of those were built here with the help of glasscock

Also adding to the GM conversation LSU didnt retain Austin Thomas who was viewed as highly as glasscock in the last couple of years

Imma has stuck his neck out in a way most of us have not. I don’t blame him at all for being pissed at the constant questions and negativity directed at him and others who are actually doing something while others are screaming “Do something!” at them.

Lots of people are just throwing stones.

Speaking of Nebraska, seems a lot of schools have finally figured out that Dominic Raiola and his son are toxic assholes. Haven’t heard much about that douche.

The part I highlighted is important. Low donor/NIL schools can distribute up to 22% of athletic department revenue as compensation to athletes ($20.5mm cap). I place like Arkansas state had $34mm in overall athletic department revenue for 2023. Under the new rules, they could distribute around $7.5mm to athletes. Owens probably gets around $150k-250k (just a guess) and a chance to start. IMO, it is a good business decision for both. He's presently a "Physical Culture and Sports" major at Texas, which I believe is the "Majoring in Sports" major at Texas (around 40 players have that major). I am not really sure what a degree in that major would translate into, but going to Arkansas State is not really going to impact his student/educational experience.

And also he sucks. Fat Mahomes with the toxic dad

I dunno. Works pretty well as a business model for Liucci…

Lulz ... from the Michigan board. 321 upvotes.

If this actually happens, Ffrench's chronicle of his years of as a college football player will read

"From Austin to Ann Arbor, and back: How I finally got on the field at DKR" ... 😂 😂 😂.

Hope we destroy them in '27.

It’s just a tweet. The investment in the communication is almost zero. It’s a smart strategy.

Crazy that he got crossways with Nebraska. The uncle got fired and they wanted a brother to get a scholarship, too.

Rumors had him going to Oregon, but the kid better hope someone will take him and the drama. He’s not worth near the trouble that his family causes.

I think the Raiolas and LSU would be a really bad fit and would end poorly. I hope it happens.

"Glasscock was the sole architect of Texas semifinal teams" Jesus Christ the narratives you assholes contrive just to fuel your addiction to bitching

I’m in Pecan Grove, I can be there in a little over an hour. What’s the address?

I question the long term economic analysis of trading a Texas degree with minimal comp for an Arkansas State degree with a few hundred K. I get that 20 year olds and their “agents” might make that decision, because math is hard.

If Trey Owen’s has a good year at Arkansas State then he won’t be at Arkansas State the next year. If I’m a QB and being passed up by 2 younger guys, I’m absolutely taking a step down to try and leverage into a big pay day in one of my final years.

I think what you’re saying is more programs have money to spend, and are willing to spend it in year 3 of the portal. My first thought at hearing that is “OK, adjust on the fly and outspend the competition”. But I also wonder if Texas a year ago recruiting on “Texas will be preseason #1 w/ Arch the Heisman favorite” is a lot easier than Texas recruiting off the season they just finished. The narrative outside of Texas has changed. If that’s the case, you’ve lost some of the “get me to the NFL” ability you had the last couple of years. At that point, it’s use your considerable financial advantages, and if that’s not enough in this current environment, there’s not many more paths other than re-setting “hope” through a coaching change. Seems to be the natural progression in professional sports which is what we are talking about in the NIL era

This board and "the narrative outside of Texas" see things a lot differently.

I don’t think enough people are concerned that a journalist isn’t having fun covering Texas football anymore. Tragic.
