What other scholarshib LBs are on the roster currently, besides Smith? Barnes, the Georgia freshman... I'm sure there are others but can't think of them off the top of my head. Obviously a big portal need at this point.

Exactly, and that's why this one hurts so much.

You never know what's going on in somebody's head.  He's a long way from home, and maybe he's got a chance to go play with a family member somewhere.

But we should just about never lose a starter to the portal.  Shit.

Keeping a guy you don’t really like just because numbers are low at a position is a poor way to operate (if that is how Texas felt).

If we didn’t want to lose him we wouldn’t have.

One thing I noticed watching College Football this year was an absurd amount of gap busts and huge RB runs. You never really seen that on Texas defensive tape. Ant and Liona were rarely out of position. Missed tackle here or there? Yeah. I’d take that over a 50 yard touchdown run though. Those two were apart of some nasty Texas rush defenses.

Uhh, nearly every long run we did concede was due to Lefau overplaying or not reading his keys correctly. He was the weak link in the front seven. I’d prefer he stay but I can’t imagine we won’t be able to find at least a comparable replacement.

The NIL era raises the importance of fast learning of the playbook/scheme. I wonder if Texas has any special initiatives around that area.

If Gerry and CJ are right in that Texas did not want to pay Lefau then they must have a replacement lined up in the portal.  If not then, seems a bit wreckless to part ways with a 2 year starter that has played well in big games.

It's nice we're not getting into car accidents, but that doesn't seem very reckless at all

Crossing my fingers this staff has guys lined up in the portal to fill our holes for next year.  You can say what you want about flushing out anyone who isn’t All SEC but this staff hasn’t shown me they have any ability to quickly assimilate players into their systems.

Definitely can’t afford another slow start next season.  Here’s to hoping there is a plan and  our moves aren’t simply reactionary.

Off the top of my head, Golden, Mitchell, Brevard, Kanu.

Gavin Holmes and Travis Shaw were solid depth as well, and Mosley was a quality starter once he got healthy.

Yeah it’s called taking until halfway through the season to get into the circle of trust on offense.

Bill Norton was solid.

Nakos on Baugh, kinda a no shit thing

Quote

Florida saw a slew of transfer portal announcements on Monday, none bigger than starting quarterback DJ Lagway. But new head coach Jon Sumrall is not going to allow a roster exodus as he prepares for Tulane to play in the first round of the College Football Playoff against Ole Miss.
Sumrall is also going through the roster and identifying who he wants to retain. Sources tell On3 that Florida and running back Jadan Baugh are in active negotiations to retain the second-team All-SEC selection for a return to Gainesville in 2026. The 6-foot-1, 231-pounder is widely viewed as one of the top returning running backs in the nation.
If Baugh opted to enter the transfer portal, he would be widely viewed as the top running back available. But Sumrall and Florida are working to make sure that does not happen. A source told On3 on Monday morning that Florida felt like it was in a good spot to retain Baugh.
Florida’s starting running back in all 12 games this season, Baugh carried the ball 220 times for 1,170 yards and eight rushing touchdowns. He also collected 31 receptions for 185 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns.
Baugh became the 10th Gator all-time to rush for 1,000 yards in a single season. He hit those numbers following a 266-yard performance against Florida State. That performance ranks second-most in a single game in program history. Baugh came in at third in the SEC for his 1,170 yards and No. 14 in all of FBS this season.

Per IT, Deandre Moore not coming back.

Good. I never saw that dude do anything above replacement level on the field. Just an incredibly boring and apparently really expensive WR.

I thought he was a perfectly fine third receiver. One of our problems last year was that we had a bunch of guys who were perfectly fine third receivers.

He should’ve been kicked off the team when he ran out of bounds late in the 4th vs Kentucky

Yeah….I’m remembering the first play on each of the first three series Vanderbilt ran…gashed us

I can only think of the Arkansas game. Where he was out of a gap and the RB gashed us up the gut. He was playing besides Trey Moore though, it seemed like he didn’t trust him fully to run fit and bounced inside.

Didn't he have our only TD in the SEC CG?

You mean the schemed open RPO slant he ran for a TD? Is that a play DMo uniquely does well? His greatest value to the team is as a perimeter blocker. A better WR coach should be able to get guys blocking better.

I’ll give you Mitchell.  Golden had to have a sit down with Sark because he wasn’t picking up the system.  The rest were just solid rotational players.  But Lefau was just solid and a starter as well but apparently that isn’t good enough.

I read someone say that Moore never gets open on his own and every big play he had here was due to great scheme. Now that I think about it, that's spot on.

Hoping there’s a plan will get your ass fired!  Are we gonna have to ask Tech how to get needed portals?  We are better than tha!

Ewers, Mitchell, Mukuba, Golden, all incredibly important to our success in 23 and 24. Plenty of other starter-level role players as well.

People love to throw out the Golden example as proof that Sark's system is too complicated for new players, but has there been a report of a single other player having serious trouble learning the offense?

Also a player having to get one on ones to learn scheme leading to a first round draft pick isn’t some glaring negative
