Because they aren’t getting separation. This isn’t that hard to see

It's not hard to see that they are consistently wide open and Arch can't hit them. You will tear down the entire team to protect one player. It's pretty disgusting

Lulz. No they all pretty much suck. That’s the problem. I’ll tear down the whole team when the whole team sucks.

I'm not lowering myself to responding to a poll like this but I will say that this shit isn't going to age well. "Chiles should starts" is a meme for a reason.

Mateer sucks.  OU sucks.   Profit.

I thought benching Arch was fantasy talk but both Inside Texas and OTF podcasts openly talking about Caldwell needing to play.

One thing we know is that Sark will overly protect players to the detriment of the team.

I have a funny feeling that Sark gives exactly zero shits what sports journalists and podcasters think.

If anyone can talk sense in to him, it probably has to be CDC.

Seems like Sark gives zero shits what anyone thinks including those on his staff because he continues to smash his head into a wall

Sure, Sark should bench Arch. But he won't because that's not who he is. He's going to trot Arch back out there against Sam Houston because he'll say Arch just had a bad game. If we get a repeat against Sam Houston then maybe we see him benched but again I doubt it. This is not who Sark is. I feel he's going to assign blame to the OL, the WRs for not getting open or running the right routes, anything to deflect from the QB who has been in his system for 3 years and maybe just doesn't have it at all.

The only way Sark makes a change at Qb  at this point of the season is if on game day Arch wakes up with a stomach virus or 102 fever.

Mechanics wise Coleman has the capability to lead this team.  As an “olds” I’ve seen plenty of teams from the high school to the fricken NFL win a lot of games with an average QB.   Right now this team has no confidence on the offensive side of the ball.   Each position is damn right affected by the play of others.  If your Qb can’t hit the side of a barn and make makes bad reads,  the O line is think WTF are we killing ourselves to protect this crap.   When you see WR shrug their shoulders play after play, that’s a tell.

Fricken Vandy brought in a QB from a true bottom feeder in New Mexico fricken state and turned them from a laughing stock to where they beat the crap out of South Carolina last night.    New Mexico fricken State!   A program some thought deserved to be abandoned or sent down to FCS not too long ago

That's an element too.  What does it say that Texas took this hyper talented QB with HoF bloodlines and pissed their pants with him?

Not saying that's reality, but it absolutely would be the angle from opposing recruiters and possibly even the Mannings towards Sark and Texas.  "Don't go to Texas or you'll get David Carr'ed."

It wouldn't necessarily be the first example either.

I think is says that bloodlines don't mean shit if the kid doesn't have anything more than his name. Everyone was going to take a Manning. He was rated the #1 QB. But maybe we're seeing it wasn't just loyalty to Ewers being the reason Arch didn't take over last year. What I don't get it where is the Arch that played well against Mississippi State, UTSA, and ULAMon last year? I don't think Sark broke Arch. He certainly didn't break Ewers.

There were times last season when Ewers was looking for a place to fall.

Maybe that's on Sark, maybe it ain't; but it certainly happened.

The ceiling for the 2025 Texas team - QB’d by Manning - appears to be 2024 OU: really good defense with a limp-dick offense, mostly attributable to incompetent QB play.

There is an argument to be made that even average QB play raises that ceiling.  Could Caldwell be average? No clue. But if he can complete passes that almost every FBS QB consistently completes every week, that seems like an improvement.

We’ve seen this movie before - this is going to be 2010 all over again if Texas sticks with Manning.

The greatest game of 5D chess is unfolding right now.  The top secret special access program strategy right now is to look inept as shit with a barely functioning team for the first few weeks.  Then they’ll show a new wrinkle against Florida barely skating by

then again OU all the chips are on the table and it’s revealed all the be a troll job and we hang 60 with the finest precision anyone’s ever seen. Book it.

Just like he protected Ewers from Arch based on your opinion last year? Have you seen Arch.

Haven't seen much of the team this year, but if it's true that Arch is just missing wide open receivers and throwing the ball at their feat against UTEP, that's a massive red flag. You can explain away a poor performance in the horseshoe, but a guy in his 3rd year on campus should not be this bad against UTEP. If every other qb on the roster is really 10-straight-incompletions-against-UTEP bad then Sark is stealing money from the University. I don't want to believe Sark is actually that incompetent, so I have to assume he's being stubborn leaving Arch out there.

If the defense is still elite then I say we roll with Caldwell and hope he can be an average, functional, college qb. Can't let Arch dick around against another cupcake and then try to throw someone else into the fire in conference play if Arch sucks it up again. Beat OU, Arky, and Aggy and  ideally don't lose to anyone except Georgia and I'd consider this season a success at this point, because based on what I've heard, I'm fearing a 2010 level collapse.

How do we know that?

Are you speaking about what he says in public? If so, that's at best a very opaque window into what he says to players.

It doesn't even have to be a thought out conclusion on the part of players that they're wasting effort. I think it's more emotional. If after nearly every play you're blowing out air and patting Arch on the shoulder saying, "don't worry man, you're going to be great," you lose the top level of enthusiasm and belief that it takes to compete against great competition. The words become emptier with every repetition.

"Here we go again" is a corrosive mantra.

"We love Arch, but Caldwell's the guy now. Look! We're sustaining a drive!" works a lot better.

Which is exactly why you can’t bench him.  The narrative of Sark Texas football being a QB destination will be over.  Arch must improve or that will be the narrative, fair or not.  And that’s especially true on the heels of Ewers failing to live up to expectations. It’s a bad place to be, but that’s where they are.  Arch must adapt or Sark Texas football will die

It’s over anyway. Sark not being able to develop Quinn (he got worse each year) and not being able to develop a manning is all you need and the narrative is done. You absolutely cannot continue playing manning that is not seeing wide open receivers and cannot complete easy passes. One guy isn’t bigger than the offense, this team, or this program.

and honestly who gives a fuck about his reputation as a QB developer/whisper.
