Seems like a legitimate seizure, if this were in a vacuum or normal times. Obviously Trump has destroyed any notions of normalcy.

A lot of this.

Had this happened in a vacuum -- as in, had any of the previous 6 or so US presidents ordered such a seizure -- it would be a pretty ordinary story, pretty legitimate all things considered.  In a vacuum, I actually think it's a fair exercise of our sanction power.

But as it is part of the pretext to create a completely unnecessary war in Latin America solely to distract from a criminal president's criminal presidency and his habit of lusting for and fucking underage girls and lots of other shit, then it goes in the pile of "corrupt shit done for bad fucking reasons."

But I also read a pretty interesting analysis for why this seizure was a foreign relations double-whammy, which I think is kinda good international police work, Lou:

Quote

the US is accusing the ship it seized off Venezuela of transporting oil for Venezuela and Iran.

These two rogue players (along with North Korea, Russia, and others) don’t have much in common beyond their shared interest in ushering in a post-US-led world. But it’s actually in oil markets where their cooperation goes beyond photo opps and press releases.

While both Iran and Venezuela face oil sanctions, Iran’s are tougher and more strictly enforced. As soon as Iran loads oil at its Kharg Island, that triggers red flags everywhere. The result is the shadow fleet servicing Venezuela has maintained more access to insurance and ports, enabling it to offload its oil at higher prices.

Venezuela’s waters (especially around Amuay and José terminal) are also among the few places left where massive dark-fleet transfers can still happen with almost no oversight.

So Iran has no shortage of oil, but blending its crude with Venezuela’s output (where technically possible) solves lots of problems. Ditto, seizing the Skipper sends a message to two US foes at once.

Trump's not gonna do anything to her, she's clearly working on his side for regime change in Venezuela and she's their pick to take over once Maduro is toppled. In the interview she did with Bloomberg, she claimed that Venezuela has active groups from Russia, Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas working in their country. Obviously laying the groundwork for reasons of invasion and regime change. No normal person would claim or believe that, it's for a specific purpose.

She has expressed great support for Netanyahu too, which makes the Nobel Peace Prize even more ridiculous. She's no peacemaker, she's a pawn in this chess game to expand the power of the right-wing warmongers that run our country and the rest of the Axis of Evil that America will certainly be joining once we bounce from NATO.

Some Republicans in Congress are getting testy with Trump, and he’s still pissed at the Epstein vote.  He’s got the majority of Republicans in the Indiana Legislature telling him to fuck off, which while it’s one state, does show that not everybody will do his bidding, even after he threatened to withhold federal funding. Plenty of Americans on the right are not too thrilled with the economy.  And millions are about to get turbo-fucked with healthcare expenses.  And murdering survivors in the water did not go over as well as he thought.

I don’t see how he sells a big war against Venezuela in an election year when they haven’t attacked us and Trump is already Bigly unpopular and he doesn’t have control over a Republican Congress.  Maduro knows he can’t be trusted to make a deal, and he’s got Russia and China in his corner, so it’s in his interest to stick it out.

Hell, there are a lot of Americans who don’t realize that we are on the path to war with Venezuela. How does he go on TV and sell that, and surprise the hell out of them like that?  It’s a fantastic way to help the Dems win Congress next November.

The land. I forgot about that part, when Venezuela stole all that land from the US. I mean, I have no idea what land this is or where it is, but yeah, they totally stole it from us.

"Very popular guy, great pitcher. Apparently he did very well with real estate too.  I think a lot people don't remember that Fernando Venezuela was actually a U.S. citizen. So I talked to our lawyers about it. They said, 'Sir, we can't just take Venezuelan land'. I said, 'Look, I know a lot about real estate. I've done very well with real estate. I know the laws. Look into it, trust me.'  They came back and said, 'Mr. President, you were right. That land is legally our land.'  So we're taking it back."

The only thing that's even remotely close to that is I believe Chevron or Conoco (C company) had actual leases on Lake Maracaibo.

Chavez nationalized that, but Chevron still operates there although I'm sure it's on lower margins.

Nice to know that Chevron is us and we are Chevron (or Conoco).

Does it trouble you at all that drug smugglers, common criminals like Juan Orlando Hernandez or El Chapo, are being murdered on the high seas without the due process accorded to at least Hernandez?  Or that the actual victims are just ordinary people trying to get by, maybe a bit compromised?

Some how this moron is going to kick off the dumbest world war ever.  And we've had one started by the assassinated prince of an inconsequential nation.

Well, technically, it wasn't the assassinated prince, it was his petty, jealous, inbred haemophiliac relatives.

I'd really like more info on the land Venezuela has stolen from the US.

For real, he probably thinks all the Americas should belong to the US. And considers it ‘stollen’.

who just that morning dodged an assassination attempt because the bomb hit the wrong car. So he got back in his prince mobile and bounced around until they shot his arrogant ass. Oh the hubris, sounds familiar

If it hadn’t been him, something else would’ve sparked off WW1.

This is way dumber.

oh yeah, agree on WWI.

Now? I mean one can argue we are in the same situation worldwide and just about anything can trigger it. There is hubris abound from anyone and everyone in power from here to China to Russia.

My plan is to make it to Friday. From there I will make my next move.

COP has been in legal battles with PDVSA for years. I assume that's at least part of what he's rambling about.

So, is the timeline: 12/17: Address the nation on national TV
12/18: War/Distraction Military action against Venezuela.

                                12/19: Epstein file release.

Luckily, I'm visiting my MAGA parents over the weekend and MAGA in laws right after, so conversations should be light and fun. Ho! Ho! Ho!

When TACO Trump (aka President Huff & Puff) doesn't actually start this war, then he will call out his warranting a Nobel Peace Prize. For not starting a war,  thus showing his mental brilliant.
