Doubt it works but what if Georgia punks Alabama 42-7, giving Bama a third loss and an ass kicking greater than 35-10? I know the committee says no punishment for CCGs but I mean the pirate code, it’s more guidelines than strict rules. They can do what they want.

On the OTF Roundtable video last night, Burton seemed pretty upset about the Longhorns potentially being left out, but then he argued that the SEC should go to a 10-game conference schedule as a result.

How does that achieve anything? Isn’t the committee showing that total number of losses matter more than quality wins?  Adding SEC games doesn’t help minimize losses, that’s for sure.

I agree that it’s misguided, but I believe he was arguing for a 10 game SEC schedule to reduce the imbalance between SEC schedules. I think that divisions are a better way to accomplish that.

Alabama is undoubtedly in.

People need to recognize that this is all just an in-between stage for the next 5-10 years until the Big 10 and SEC form their own league/playoff

Its been clear for a few years that the Big 12 and ACC are fucking borderline G5 poors. And expanding the playoff beyond 6-8 teams was fucking moronic

So let’s see 42-7 so the knife can be turned even harder, maybe replace a clean edge with a rusted sawtooth type and pull it in and out while twisting it?

I'm not so sure if they get fustigated by Georgia. They'll be a 3 loss team then and haven't looked that good lately.

Then again, I haven't thought they were a CFP all year so maybe I'm a bit biased.

Maybe. I'm interested to see what the CFP does as opposed to the regular polls.

Texas at #11 or #12 setting up for first or second team out. See not penalized.

I think what the polls did is an indicator of what the CFP will do. They’ll make sure we are unquestionably on the outside looking in. Their words are irrelevant. Things they have said they’d do in the past are irrelevant. They don’t want to have to explain themselves.

“You have three losses. Sorry.” Herbstriet showed his hand on Gameday Saturday, too. “Anything can happen in a rivalry game, so that’s all Texas beating A&M was.”

We’re the better team. We were the better team last year. We’ll be the better team next year, too.

Always amazed at how we have techtards and now byu(wtf) fans coming into a Texas board discussion about Texas making the cfp acting like the victims and we have to answer all their questions. Stfu and go bitch on a secrant forum. Go start a topic and generate discussion about the big 12 and tech and byu being better than half the sec. But coming here and bitching and moaning at Texas fans is fucking dumb. Go cry somewhere else.

BYU beating Tech and Bama losing to UGA will stress this theory. Are they just gonna drop Tech all the way from #4 to out?

A funny scenario to me would be Bama beating Georgia, BYU beating Tech, which I think would likely result in ND getting dropped from the CFP for BYU.

I don't think there's any way Tech would drop out with a loss unless it was a blowout.

I guess everyone has you on ignore or just doesn’t give a fuck about ESPN FPI. Maybe both.

Florida is the 6th highest ESPN FPI on UT’s schedule. Ohio State, Georgia, Aggy, OU, Vandy…

Hypothetically, Florida would in fact be the 3rd highest on Tech’s schedule as they’re just barely ahead of K-State and Arizona State (your L)

Bama is beating Georgia. It is what they do.

I actually won’t be outraged if we get left out. If our whole season was the exact same except we beat a 4-8 Florida team we’d be in. But we didn’t.

Or swap it with Vandy or ou.

The Florida loss is bad bad.

Yeah let's create a system that pits Minnesota against Kentucky in a first round game. That'll do wonders for TV ratings.

The ACC is down and still rating well with their big brands.  The big 12 is rating well this year due to Techs resurgence.

Notre Dame is never joining a conference so let's miss on those views as well. Solid plan.

I would change my tune about them if they did. I'm skeptical. Georgia has looked much stronger and focused. Bama doesn't seem to have that kind of focus until DeBoer or however you spell his name.

After catching up on this thread, @Brian Fantana has produced what might be the biggest series of “punk ass bitch” posts from a surly regular ever. What a giant pussy.

And on top of all that, his whole “logic” is ridiculous: “I’m confident Texas wouldn’t be favored, and I’m right because you can’t produce an actual betting line that proves me wrong.” Never mind he has zero proof for his view. What an idiot.

It’s some of the dumbest logic I’ve ever seen, and that’s saying something because I’ve read a lot of his cloak room posts.

jack off please GIF

Neither side of the argument has any proof, dipshit, that's the whole point. I can point to publicly available computer models that suggest we would be favored, but that's all we have to go on besides subjective opinion and feely feels.

Suck my dick.

Lol @ trying to CR the thread to make a point, too, what a little bitch.

I am aware. I am not losing any sleep over the fact that Texas will probably not be going to the playoff. This isn't 2008. We don't have a truly great team that just fell short in some tragic way. We sucked in some games and deserved each of our three losses. Probably should have lost a few more. I am perfectly fine calling it a season at this point. But hey if by some weird fluke Texas gets in, well let's fucking go.

If we were going to the SEC title game and had a chance to beat Georgia and get in, and lose and we were out that would be fine by me. If we were in the same situation BYU was in that would be great. But Texas doesn't have that opportunity, we are sitting at home hoping a series of unlikely miracles occur. BYU can play their way in.

I guess my logic is you want to be in the playoff it is because you think you are good enough to win it. Not just to be there. If you don't think you can beat Texas Tech then you probably won't beat Ohio State. Besides the Big 12 Championship is clearly sort of a playoff game anyway. The winner moves on, the loser goes home. I like it. Nice and pure.

Or maybe Texas Tech gets in either way, that's lame. But what can you do?

I actually do think BYU can beat Tech this Saturday and I'm putting my money where my mouth is by traveling to be there. We have a very good QB that is young but has gotten better every game. Our starting, NFL-bound RB was basically out at Tech (even though he played some snaps he was not healthy enough to play).

I don't know if BYU is good enough to win it all. There are some very good teams out there. 12 teams get a shot. I think we have done enough and have a resume good enough to at least deserve that shot, even if we drop the CCG. Does the 5th best SEC team have a chance to win it all? Let's settle it on the field versus hypothetical eye tests. How often do the experts get the rankings and winners wrong? All. The. Time.

My deal is that you are applying a standard to BYU that is not really being applied to anyone else. BYU is a P4 team, willing to compete in the NIL era, and with some NFL talent on the roster. We are 22-3 over the last two seasons in a P4 league. We are not the BYU of the independent or MWC eras.

Out last dog was a doodle that was very well trained at home, but was probably never socialized enough. He just didn't know how to act when the doorbell rang and a visitor came in the house.

This is how I view aggy and Tech when they taste success. It happens so rarely, what shall we ever do?

Good point.

BYU is all about their run game.  Guess what the Tech D is really good at stopping?  Of course ole #47 might give us his best Steve Young or Marc Wilson impression this Saturday.  I doubt it.

If Tech doesn't run through the tape and trips on its dick, it would be disastrous, at a minimum. They most likely will be at the 4 spot in CFP rankings tomorrow. Dropping out of the Top 12 after a CCG would be about on par for the committee.

Yeah hate to sound all “white guys can’t jump”, but I watched BYU-Tech this year. There was a ridiculous disparity in athleticism and speed all over the field, BYU never had a chance. And their QB is a shitty Tebow clone.

Win or lose against BYU, I'm still hoping for a Tech v. aggy first round matchup in which aggy closes out its season with losses to Texas and Tech.  If Texas doesn't make it in, that would still be a satisfying CFP for me.

This would be the funniest possible outcome

No way TT loses to BYU.

I think it's reasonable to assume to the CFP will at least rank Texas ahead of Utah, like the AP and coaches. We just need that one extra step of being ranked ahead of Miami or Vandy which isn't unreasonable. That puts us at #13. BYU gets trounced and hopefully Bama does as well. That then leaves the CFP deciding between a 3 loss recently trounced Bama, a 3 loss Texas, and Vandy which lost to Texas or Miami which didn't even qualify for the ACC title game.

I would assume Bama is in with that scenario but it's the best we got.

The problem is that Miami and Vandy's seasons are done, and they won their final games in pretty dominating fashion, so there's nothing left for them to fuck up between now and selection. I suppose it's possible that the committee jumps Texas over them tomorrow but it doesn't seem likely (though I think they should).

Who gives a flying fuck about byu and tech. I have a down syndrome cousin that got accepted to tech and graduated if that tells you anything about who tech let’s get in which is basically anyone that’s breathing. BYU on the other hand is a cult and should be burned to the ground. Carry on.

Or maybe someone looks at Notre Dame's schedule and realizes it is getting eliminated in the first round. Notre Dame viewership money doesn't do anything if the team ain't playing past the first round. That's ultimately the correct answer to the puzzle.

I know its a snow ball's chance on Padre Island right now, but what if Indiana beats Ohio State on Saturday?   Stay with me here on this.

Right now and tomorrow when the rankings are released, the spin is the Texas/Ohio State game doesn't matter now.    What if Indiana beats Ohio State and the committee is left with the question where to place Ohio State because my thinking is the committee that has a more favorable slant towards the Big 10 will want to keep Ohio State in the top four?   If UGA  beats Bama on Saturday, they can't put UGA below  and 11-1 Ohio State because the committee would have to acknowledge UGA beat the same Texas team later in the season with more style points.  But Ohio State's win against Texas is still there for them to use to justify keeping Ohio State in the top four and qualifying for a bye over a one loss Tech, Oregon, Ole Miss, etc.

Yep, no need to worry about them on GA, which is already in as well.  It is going to be hard to climb high enough for an at large bid, but we will all know what they think about Lane moving along with select coaches and beating aggy come tomorrow night and how high/low the committee moves teams around.
