TDA was mostly about Lawrence, KS and I think a lot of us were pretty cool with that.

sorry, baby. streaming on HBO. Odd to say this about a movie centered around a heavy topic, but I found this movie really funny and at times a delight to watch. One of my favorite scripts of the year.

Ex Machina

Not only does it hold up, it basically predicts our inevitable dystopia future.

The Baltimorons, A Christmas Love Story

Excellent independent film. Masterfull character development and interaction.

On Prime.

Then I watched Spinal Tap II. Worth a watch if you love the original.

Saw "Hamnet" earlier.  Wow, was I a blubbering mess for much of the last hour.  The first half is pretty boring, but the back half was very good and wrenching.  Wonderful last 15-20 minutes.  I don't think it's good enough to win Oscars (other than probably Jessie Buckley who is terrific), but it would be a worthy Best Picture nominee.

I thought the preview was a SNL parody.

Any of y'all do Letterboxd? I've watched 114 movies so far this year (including rewatches).

Latest one being LEE (2023) (on Hulu). About the wartime Vogue photographer Lee Miller (played by Kate Winslet and her tits). Good performance from Winslet, and other strong actors in the cast with not much to do: Marion Cotillard, Aleksander Skaarsgard, Josh O'Connor. Oh, and Andy Samberg.

But the movie lacked any real tension or compelling drama. An interesting historical story, but pretty meh as a narrative film.

Several on Letterboxd here - I’m Wutang75 (298 logged this year - we watch a lot of movies and I have no life).

Saw Kill Bill:The Whole Bloody Affair today at the theater.  Best I can tell, the only real addition was another anime story in O-Ren's backstory.  I don't have much to add about a Tarantino movie that's been picked over for 20 years.  It still rips and was worthy of 4+ hours of my time.

I just checked my Letterbox and I have logged 133 since I opened the account in February.  JustinSmith82 if you're interested in adding

I think I watch a fair amount of movies because I watch about 100 new releases and 50 or so older movies per year. Then I see shit like this and just feel bad.

Rewatched Shutter Island for some reason. That is a weird movie. Definitely not my favorite Scorcese.

Plains, Trains and Automobiles. Got to see it on the big screen at Regal. I had not seen the movie since I was a kid when we rented it at a video store. The scene where Candy drives the wrong way and they are sitting on the trunk watching the car burn had me crying laughing. I don’t know why, but that got me the most. Candy and Martin together was just a great pairing. Martin cussing out the woman at the rental car counter was hilarious as well. Beautiful movie.

I can recite basically the whole movie.  Top 1 movie for me

Finally got around to Killers of the Flower Moon. Wow. The cameo by Scorsese got me at the end.

Anyone tried to watch a movie on Tubi recently? Sweet jesus, their ads are prolific. Watched this last night 'cause it's 81 minutes, & the blonde is hot.

Deadly Games

It is predictably not good.

Thanks IMDB.  These photos are good enough to want to press play.  You're on the list buddy!

IMDB wouldn't let me copy images.  It's worth clicking the link and scrolling through for bigger pictures.  Here are some pics from a google.

Hot indeed.

Directed by Mel. May be my favorite Marky Mark performance, and Topher stays in his lane as a comedic actor.

Recommend

Watched it yesterday and enjoyed it.   Pretty amazing to keep that intensity up with 95% of it taking place only inside the plane.

Also watched Elevation with Anthony Mackie and Morena Corwin this afternoon.   Would have been much better as a series but it was kind of a popcorn movie.

Just finished it. Great movie. Had to actually do a 15 minute timeout. We were expecting a pure comedy and when it started so strangely we at first thought it might be garbage. But we went back in to finish it and really liked it. It will definitely get some Oscar nominations.

Watched Zulu the other night for the first time since I was in middle school (early 80s). It's funny; I always thought John Cleese was in it because there's a dude named Stanley Baker playing some sergeant who looks like him in a pith helmet.

It makes sense that I'd confused the two back then, because it around that time I was introduced to Monty Python and Faulty Towers. Anyway, great late night movie despite the terrible acting.

Wife and our youngest daughter voted together so as a family went to go see Marty Supreme on Christmas Day.

Just don't do it, to call it dog shit would be an insult to dog shit.

We debated between Song,Sung, Blue and Marty Supreme. Glad she won the debate after your report!

Our son wanted Anaconda simply for the comedy of the horrifically bad CGI snake from the trailers, my Wife wanted Song Sung Blue because she loves Diamond's music, but then our youngest swayed her Mom by telling her the movie wasn't about Neil.

I will openly admit that there were a few moments during the pile of shit that is Marty Supreme that I pondered changing our will and cutting our the youngest for this crime against the family.

Literally the first person I’ve talked to or read about that didn’t love Marty Supreme. Also 95% on RT, 4.3 on Letterboxd. Going tonight to check out this heavily divisive film for myself.

Zulu Dawn, another movie about a different aspect of the same uprising, is much better.

Cool. Never heard of it, but will add it to the list. I see it's available on Tubi.

It’s about the complete defeat of the main British forces at the Battle of Islawanda, which took place a few days before the Battle of Rourke’s Drift

This is actually an understatement.

I was actively rooting against the "protagonist" about halfway through. Maybe that was the point, but it was just a terrible movie, poorly told. 130 minutes of shit and then it turns into multiple poorly done movie cliches at the end.

Before that the story was all luck and coincidence and absurd plot points. The soundtrack for some reason leaned on 80s pop for a film set in the 50s. Even that was dumb.

There wasn't anything interesting about it. Nothing. Except maybe George Gervin's cameo. As a Spurs fan that was legitimately the only redeeming thing about the film.

I went in knowing nothing. They could have made it a sports movie, which I thought it may have been, about a table tennis player and it could have been great.

The wife wanted to see this one. I now get to choose the next 5 movies minimally, just based on how shitty this choice was.

The Housemaid. It was kind of a poor man's Gone Girl, in the same chicklit twisty domestic thriller lane. By the same director as A Simple Favor and it kind of reminded me of that one too. I went in expecting Seyfried and Sweeney to look hot and it delivered in that regard.

Saw both Nuremburg and Song Sung Blue in the past week.

Enjoyed both of them. Both had Rotten Tomatoes scores of ~75% from the professionals and over 95% from the audience. Jackman and Hudson were fantastic in Song Sung Blue. Great acting, really pulled you in, and the singing was stellar.

The chemistry between Crowe and Malek in Nuremburg was compelling. Great acting all around, as one would expect from this cast. Actual concentration camp footage shown at the trials was also showed in the movie. While I have seen it before, it is never easy to see it.

Recommend both.

The beginning was terrible. When we started watching I told my wife, "Its a PTA movie so get ready for some completely unnecessary, weird sexual shit that will be completely inappropriate if the kids walk in the room." 5 minutes later Penn is getting pegged or his ass eaten. Perfidia is a fucking awful character. It's probably a testament to the writers or her acting ability that I hated her so much I was hoping she would take one center mass every time she was on screen.
