Arkansas (14th), Texas A&M (15th), & Texas (17th) are (3) of the most penalized programs in the country in 2025.

So the refs hate the Southwest Conference..

Arkansas is terrible, we should beat them convincingly which means we won't because we can't beat anyone convincingly right now. This will be another struggle where another sub .500 team finds a way to have their best game of the season. Arkansas gave up 235 rushing yard to LSU yesterday, 230 to Auburn, 217 to aggy, 264 to Tennessee, I could keep going but maybe we could try running the ball against them? Silly notion by me but maybe that could help make beating them a little easier.

Arkansas has lost one game this year by more than 1 score. A blowout I do not expect.

Probably correct, but never underestimate the tendency of recency bias when it comes to playoff committee’s.  A win, especially a convincing win over the undefeated Aggies w/ a national Thanksgiving weekend audience fairly or unfairly does present opportunity

That was exactly correct, until Bama/OU.  We all knew 2-1 prior to UGA game would give us a shot.  However we needed Bama to beat OU.  OU will likely win out now (LSU and Mizzou) and SEC isnt getting 6 in : TAMU, UGA, Bama, OU and Ole Miss are in.  Texas even if we beat TAMU is outside.  Bama fucked us unless OU were to slip up unfortunately.

Could always get a Bama loss to Auburn. Vandy could also be an issue if they win @Tenn. And of course OU could lose with how inconsistent their offense is. Not likely to occur mind you. But chaos can happen. Team needs to keep fighting.

Very true, the committee seems to like us.  Yes we need chaos.  I hadnt thought of a Bama loss, it could happen, 3 loss Bama and 3 loss Texas would be interesting debate and the recency bias someone mentioned would certainly be in play.  Our W over OU and Vandy would loom large.  Ark is the focus, get the W there and lets see what happens.  I recall years ago watching OU lose to OSU and that put us in.

3 loss Bama would be left out. We played a better preseason opponent in OSU and will have just won and they will have just lost.

I really don't give a shit about making the CFP.  After a game like that one last night IN November it is clear we don't have a team that is winning 4 straight games against the best in the country, so who gives a shit.  Who remembers who all was in the NFL playoffs in 2023?

And look, I get it if you are a Tech, who has never sniffed a conference champ game, much less an outright conference title, or an SMU last year, etc etc making the CFP and getting bounced IS a big deal. If you are a program with the expectations of Texas making the CFP this year, with our inconsistent as fuck squad is a pointless endeavour.

Or they’d value Bama’s road win over Georgia more than our neutral site win over OU………who knows?…..

Yep. Also, I have zero confidence in any Sark coached team ever putting together 3 or 4 straight good games. ‘23 was our best chance with this guy because it was a 2 game playoff.

There is less than zero chance anyone with a brain is going to consider a three loss Texas for the playoffs. I’m not sure why that is such a struggle for many to understand even if we lost by one point last night we weren’t getting in the were  Texas holds absolutely zero value we’re a joke. We’ve been a punch line for two decades, and we’re gonna continue to be at this rate. There might be one team in the college playoffs that we could probably beat and that’s OU and maybe the G5 applicant but I wouldn’t even pencil that yet we would probably overlook them and get embarrassed.

Kentucky was bad against the run, too. Against every team but one.

Anyone thinking Arkansas can’t come in here and win by two scores has not been paying attention and is probably like 22 years old. This is a fucking trap week.

an actual blowout of ark and a solid win against aggy MIGHT give the committee something to think about but this team likely doesn't have that in them.

Petrino is a pretty good OC and I don't trust our DB's at all anymore.  Green is a good enough athlete to cause our rush some problems.

JFC.  This is ridiculous.  We've been in the GD semifinal back-to-back years.   It's ok to be pissed off about last night and the season without going full retard.

No, that ship sailed when OU beat Bama and we got blown out. OU's defense isn't going to lose to Mizzou and LSU in Norman.

OU has won back to back games with a very low win expectancy.   They haven't magically become a world beater.   I think 50/50 they lose one of those 2.   Still don't think enough happens for us to sneak in because of the way we lost, but it's not zero percent chance either.   But regardless, this team isn't good enough or consistent enough to make a big run this year.  I just want to hopefully win the next 2, with Manning continuing to take positive steps, and hope we learned some lessons on the roster and make some staff changes.

Show me where I’m wrong? We’d beat Memphis. And OU. Maybe.  That’s it in the playoffs.  Show me where this team has demonstrated at all this entire season to be competent and competitive? And I’m not talking about 2 qtrs vs Vandy.  We are not a playoff team and the country knows it and we show it every single week and last night was the icing on the cake    Going full retard is week in and week out thinking we are gonna beat the hell out of whoever we play instead of accepting realty that we are smashed asshole a few bounces away from a sub .500 schedule.

Yeah, I mean at this point it's just another opportunity for this board to eat itself.  Arkansas and Aggy are enough of that.

We need to put this behind us and get on with it, whatever it turns out to be.

I always want the shot and I will always want us to make playoffs in any sport we compete in.

I'd also like us to finish strong so that when we make inevitable coaching changes we are potentially able to pick up good coaches.

You said we've been a punch line for 2 decades completely ignoring we made the final 4 in back-to-back years.  That's what I was referring too.    It's a disappointing season this year.  It happens.  We probably should have seen it coming considering how much talent we lost.    I'm not saying we would win hypothetical playoff matchups, but to answer your question, of those likely in the field as of today, we would be favored on a neutral field against G5, OU, Big 12 champ, ACC Champ and be within 8 or so everyone else.   I obviously wouldn't trust this team against damn near anyone on the road which is where we would obviously play if by some miracle we snuck in.    We got our ass kicked last night but people should listen to what Kirby said post-game.  He said something to the effect that the margins are so thin you have to push your chips in and be aggressive.  He did and they grabbed all the momentum and we had zero chance of recovering.   We stop that 4th down and who knows what happens.   But we didn't. It was a gutsy call and great play call.   And then the surprise onside was a kill shot.  At some point just have to tip your cap.

They are very solid on offense. I don't trust this teams psyche after last week and don't really trust our defense (particularly secondary) in any event.   100% a game we could lose if team isn't focused on winning and definitely have my concerns that they will be after that beat down.

Sark sucks, his staff sucks, the players are undisciplined and some don't seem to even give a shit.

I'm not in the habit of having the feels and love for millionaires who suck at their job and are completely unwilling to take any accountability when their team shits the bed on the reg.

Gonna nap now, wake me up when the coaching search begins.

Arkansas is like 10 points total all season from having a record like Texas. I’d put it at 50% chance they win. This is not a slam dunk win.

Texas is exactly 13 points from having season like Arkansas. Flip 23 point and they're leading in wins. There are zero given wins for this Texas team, MSU, Kentucky and Florida out front should have told ya.

You really believe Pitt or UVA who are likely to be the ACC champ are better than this team?

Literally the only thing keeping me from calling for someone to have movers knock on Sarks door (the kind that won't take no for an answer) at 3am, pack his shit up and dump it exactly 200 miles outside the Austin city limits is this..

He did find a way to get the Longhorns in the playoffs two years in a row, one of those when only 4 could get in.

We have current scoreboard on our biggest rivals (that could change in two weeks)

I really can't think of a realistic coaching candidate I like this year, especially with LSU and Florida also on the hunt. Not to mention he isn't really on the hot seat with BMD's so any talk of this isn't going anywhere this season.

That said, if he doesn't bolt to the NFL then some assistant changes need to be made. I love what Akina did here decades ago, but he's at least 5 years past when he should have retired. He isn't the only one, I think it's time for Flood to move along as well...he benefited from being at Bama while Saban still had the machine rolling. Even when Flood had an all NFL caliber line we didn't hold up well against teams with equal talent on D.

A loss (or narrow win by a cunt hair) against piggy is all but expected at this point and par for the course this season. Arch is finally playing pretty well but we don't seem to have the horses (or depth) at key positions for any sort of playoff run, and that's on Sark.

This is going to be a tough week of preparation mentally for this team. They came into this season thinking the playoffs were their birthright and now have seen that goal squandered. What is their motivation? None of these kids care about Arkansas as a rival, and as bad as they are, Arkansas has not quit on their season. I hope that this team has enough pride in themselves to win in front of their home crowd, but I’m expecting a high scoring struggle, as Petrino will exploit our secondary. I’ll call it Horns 34-30 because as admirable as Arkansas has been battling in futility, they just haven’t shown that they can close the deal and win.

Posted

Multiple teams in the top 10 have close wins and could easily have 2-3 losses. Good teams find ways to win. Arkansas is gonna be a tough game, they hate us with a passion and we just got our doors blown off so let’s see what team shows up at home.

Posted

Aggy has wins by 1 over nd, by 6 over Auburn, by 3 over arky and by 1 over the cucks. Easily could have 4 losses. Indiana could have two losses as well with one by 5 over Iowa. You could do this to every team almost. So acting like we should win every game by 21 is just fans being over dramatic and morons. Welcome to surly.

Well, Texas has 2 wins by 21 or more point and SJSU is 3-7 and SHSU is 2-8. So anyone expecting a 21 point win against any team is a little silly.

You bring up aggie and while the Auburn and ND games were close aggie is averaging a 13.5 margin of victory. Texas has gotten there 3 times and all of those teams are bottom of their non-p4 conferences.

Indiana did win two close games against a top 25 Iowa and but Indiana's average margin of victory is 27.5 putting them at #1 in the nation

You say multiple times they could have multiple losses and you're correct. One could. I don't see anyone reasonable expecting this team to win by 21 points because they don't unless it's a non-p4 cellar dweller and even then its not certain like UTEP.

Here is the biggest difference in the teams you noted in one of their close games. They both went on the road and defeated a top 10 team in ND and Oregon. Texas had 2 shots at that and got blown out by Georgia and could not put together a single sustained TD drive again OSU. Also, neither has lost to any team much less a conference cellar dweller like Florida.

I'm not sure what point you were trying to make with your post but you picked the wrong teams to do it.
