I lol'd.

What do you think your greatest need is?

How about health, a livelihood and freedom? Certainly not those 72 altar boys or virgins in an imaginary afterlife or whatever nonsense your kind of religious fundamentalist nutjobs yearn for.

Brah, they run around naked. Just how much more freedom do they need ?

Respect for others places of worship is a cornerstone of belief for me, regardless of their religious beliefs. Going in uninvited, and preaching is what this guy was allegedly doing. That's just wrong in so many levels.

This reveals a problem I have with religion as a whole. If it’s true that Christian God is the real and only god, and that failure to believe and worship that god results in eternal fiery hell, then gsoda is probably right that it’s super duper important above all things to save people from that horror. I, for one, find it impossible to believe in a creator that would put people in that jeopardy without at least providing proof. Otherwise we have no real basis to decide that Christian God is right and Muslim God (and all others for that matter) are wrong. In practice it all comes down to where and/or to whom you were born. A kid born in Iraq is almost certain to be taught that Muslim God is right and Christian God is wrong. On what basis can a Christian Evangelical convince them otherwise? There is nothing provable on either side. So either none of it is true or there is a lot more flexibility than is currently being preached on all sides. There is nothing convincing about a system where over half the world is doomed based on unprovable stories and beliefs and that ultimately relies almost entirely on the lottery of birth.

It doesn't matter if I believe in a God or not. I'm  saying its disrespectful. I respect peoples right to believe in a theology, and disrespecting a place of worship by trying to Proselytize others is just wrong.

Probably.

That's akin to thanking God for curing someone's cancer, but forgetting that he gave it to the person in the first place.

These pretty much describes how Les MIles wins games.

Currently, you to stop being so obtuse.
If you haven't thought about the question of your greatest need before you should. What do you think is going to happen when you die? Have you been ignoring the inevitable? Have you been ignoring the existence of God because it's inconvenient? Everyone dies. It's relevant to all.

Well that and grass.

Actual grass, not weed, but it would be cooler if it was weed.

Where does Less fall on the missionary position?

Judging by his wife, into a vat of acid first. I guess that wasn't very Christian me, oh well.

Sex with hot women seems pretty low on a lot of lists here oddly.

That, food and a safe place to sleep top my list since we are making them. I should include not getting killed, by a missionary or anyone else is right at the top.

Porn is pretty high too, you know, for when I'm not getting laid.

Well, porn and all those hot women wouldn't do you any good with an erectile dysfunction. Health is kinda important.

Everyone dies. I’d rather my date of death not be accelerated by an arrogant missionary bent on converting me to his twisted theology that says my hastened death is worth it if I accept his version of jesus with my last breath.

I’m never going to budge off of the position that being willing to harm someone is ok so long as you are trying to feed them jesus is sick, cruel, and insanely twisted.

it's never ok to knowingly/intentionally harm someone to further the name of Jesus.  what you see chau doing/did as willingly harming them i see as him doing everything he could in his power to NOT harm them while fulfilling his call.

“Everything” in his power would have been to not expose them to potential deadly disease at all. So, he didn’t do everything he could. He chose to risk their lives for his twisted mission, which he valued OVER their lives.

Nope. It’s never going to be ok.

I'll never budge from the position that teaching a child there's a place called Hell where they'll burn for all eternity if they're not good qualifies as exactly that.

WTF?

Really, WTF?

Is this an example of self-brainwashing? Of always twisting the facts so that you'll never experience cognitive dissonance?

Critical thinking, this is not it.

He was not “called” to do that. He made it up in his own head out of vanity and narcissism. It’s the same thing that lead to European takeovers of the new world. I was raised catholic because my ancestors were conquered by the Spanish and had their religion forced on them through violence and rape. I’m sure they were called by god to do that in the name of religion.

Counterpoint...it sounds like your ancestors were heathens worshipping false gods so they got what was coming to them.

To be honest, you sound a little selfish.  Jesus died on the cross for you, and your ancestors were raped and slaughtered so that you could know Christ's mercy and love; yet you just throw it all away. Shame, shame, shame...

Uhhh... nope. That's shitty theology and not at all what the Catholic Church teaches.  Thanks for playing.

You're the one that has been ignoring the inevitable. Life itself is really fucking important.  Its why you are so terrified of what is going to happen when you die.  You know who doesn't die?  People who were never alive.   So you're a complete fucking tool if you go and destroy someone's opportunity to live this life to the fullest just so you can give yourself hope, false or otherwise.  At the end of this life, you'll be just as terrified of death as you are now, and it won't make a bit of difference.  You're still going to die.

An all powerful God simply wouldn't be as big a dick as you make him out to be.  Why create supposedly flawed creatures. offer them no proof at all of your existence, and send around asshole flawed creatures to kill them or convert them to believing in you?

If I made an ant heaven, I'd let all dead ants in, and if I did judge them, I'd judge ants on how they treated other ants and creatures during their lives.  I wouldn't demand that they worship me or even acknowledge my existence because I would realize that I never showed myself to them, and that they're fucking ants.  Lesser creatures.  Like we are to an all powerful God.

And why would anyone who you killed with disease want to spend eternity with you?  That seems like hell to me.

I like the fact that these people are living in shit and mud, and as population grows they're homes will be destroyed and have to meet with people anyway.  As someone calls for help as one of their friends are dying from something that they don't understand, but modern medicine can cure. It just seems weird to not go ahead and rip the bandaid off then to keep them in the dark.

Everyone dies from something.  And they probably understand everything their people die from.  There is no reason to introduce new ways for them to die that they don't understand. They know we have things they don't have. Multiple helicopters have been there. They probably even know where and how far South Andaman is, so they can always go if they want to. Not sure why you're so eager to have them watch mindless TV, tweet, and work in an office for 50 years hoping they make enough money to eat. They have all that they really need right now.

I see no reason why anyone else ever needs to live on their tiny island either. We have enough Sandals resorts in the world.

They also probably think they are going to drift off into a fairy tale eternity like gsoda. That is human nature. They don't need a replacement fairy tale.

Some of you guys are making this tribe out to be some sort of peaceful happy group of people that sit around a campfire and live in some tropical island harmony, fishing and making seashell necklaces. Do some research on the murder, rape, incest and pedophilia that they commit on a daily basis and then form an opinion. This isn't Disney's Moana. Their "Moana" probably got pregnant with her granddad's kid when she was 11.

This isn't the place to discuss your family's history. Try the "Hobbies" or "Help" forum.

what a thin superficial view. your depictions of John are a caricature.  he wasn't going in preaching.  how could he? he didn't know their language. he was going there to live with them, to become one of them. he wanted to learn the language, culture etc. his desire that they would one day experience salvation was no doubt what drove him to this, but he was there for the entire process.

Islands in Flux: The Andaman and Nicobar Story

Sentinelese T N Pandit

The Wreck of the Andamans

Mini-India: The Politics of Migration and Subalternity in the Andaman Islands

Death in the Andamans

That has to be one of the craziest stories though right?  Rando shows up out of nowhere with all sorts of info about local towing companies being illegal and how we can all take them down, legally, as far as I can tell, and then ends up being a pederast AND a belligerent rock thrower who endangers the local populace and gets caught within a few months?  That has to be a record in the weirdo guiness book, no?
