I can only go by the reporting, but I consider Julia Davis to be a generally reliable source on matters Ukraine/Russia.  Google AI says that those facts have not been confirmed.

However, the universally accepted fact that Trump is easy to manipulate (either by flattering, or by telling him that others are saying unflattering things), is a pretty well known thing.

No better flattery than having a parade of world leaders say thwank you.

Twu, twu…

if Ukraine did provide the president with those insulting quotes, I absolutely believe there’s nobody in the White House who informed him of the quotes at the time they happened. Orange toddler handling requires only happy news and flattering comments we brought to his attention.

Here are some key Jewish figures involved in the building of the nuclear bomb. This list is nowhere near exhaustive as it only includes some of the key contributors and none of the minor contributors:

J. Robert Oppenheimer: Director of the Los Alamos branch of the Manhattan Project

Leo Szilard: A Hungarian-born Jewish physicist, Szilard is credited with initiating the project by persuading Albert Einstein to write a letter to President Roosevelt. He also patented a nuclear reactor design with Enrico Fermi.

Edward Teller: A Hungarian-American physicist, Teller was a key figure in the development of the hydrogen bomb, a more powerful successor to the atomic bomb.

Hans Bethe: A German-born physicist, Bethe led the theoretical division at Los Alamos and made significant contributions to understanding nuclear reactions.

Eugene Wigner: A Hungarian-American physicist, Wigner played a vital role in the development of nuclear reactors and the separation of uranium isotopes.

Felix Bloch: A Swiss physicist, Bloch contributed to the theoretical understanding of nuclear physics.

Niels Bohr: A Danish physicist, Bohr provided crucial insights into nuclear fission and was instrumental in the early stages of the project.

John von Neumann: A Hungarian-American mathematician, von Neumann played a key role in the development of the bomb's detonation system.

Richard Feynman: An American theoretical physicist who worked on the development of the bomb's detonation system.

Otto Frisch: An Austrian-British physicist, Frisch was involved in early calculations about the critical mass of uranium needed for a nuclear explosion.

Rudolf Peierls: A German-British physicist, Peierls co-authored a report with Frisch that first calculated the critical mass of uranium.

These are just a few examples, and many other Jewish scientists contributed to the Manhattan Project in various capacities. If you are interested in Hungarian Jews in particular you should read up on the "Martians". Some interesting friends who grew up together and learned some math along the way. Those guys included

Leo Szilard: A physicist who conceived the nuclear chain reaction.

John von Neumann: A mathematician known for his work on game theory and the development of the modern computer.

Eugene Wigner: A physicist who won a Nobel Prize for his work on symmetries in physics.

Edward Teller: A physicist known as the "father of the hydrogen bomb".

Theodore von Kármán: A fluid dynamicist who helped establish NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

Paul Erdős: A highly prolific mathematician known for his collaborative work.

Know about that as well. Maybe I misread the original point the poster was trying to make. I kind of speed read/skim posts most of the time. But with the bomb in particular, many, many Jews were involved. The most prominent ones were of German and Hungarian ancestry although Niels Bohr was Danish.

Just a comment  in general, not directed at your post.

From "Ice Station Zebra" the dialogue includes a line about German scientists being used by both the US and the Soviet Union. Specifically, a British intelligence officer explains that "the Soviets used cameras made by "our (Soviet) German scientists" and film made by "your (US) German scientists" in their satellite, which was also built by "their (British) German scientists".

Russia thinks they need all these buffers because they make it harder to get invaded.  That's true.  You know whet else makes it harder to get invaded?

Don't spend >200 years being an asshole to everyone in the World.  Be a model citizen and people will seek out your friendship, and not takes steps to protect themselves from your assholishness (NATO).

I like to ask them, "Why do you think so many countries want to join NATO, but nobody wants to join Russia?"

Putin will call the leaders of these countries either dictators, Nazis or corrupt. If not all 3.

Which of course is a reason why Putin can't easily sit down with Zelenskyy. Putin has effectively, if not explicitly, called Zelenskyy an illegal or invalid leader of Ukraine. You can't then sit down with that same leader and declare a peace deal to be legal and binding.

It is revealing of both the Russian mindset and the Western European mindset.  Before WWI, the Western mind set was "no one will go to war, we're all making too much money at peace."  No one accounted for a German Kaiser with an intellectual capacity that prefigured the current potus.   I believe Europe still has this same mindset and is struggling to come to grips with the idea that Russia could make so much money and be happy in peace if it chose to do so.  They are just waking up to the fact that they have created a monster on their own doorstep and they can't just stick their head in the sand and pretend it isn't happening.

But the Russians just don't see the world that way.  They are of the mind set that they are either invading or getting invaded.  They either control or be controlled.  There's no middle ground where there is a good faith meeting of the minds, exchange of goods and ideas.  Diplomacy is a zero sum game.  This is especially true of Putin the man.  You're either screwing or getting screwed.  That leaves no room for individual growth - whether intellectual or economic.  It leaves no room for the long term development of resources of the national good.  And really, it doesn't leave much room for peace.  They must be ruthlessly defeated.  Otherwise, we're just asking for more invasion.

While this would be my fervent desire, I have no hope of it.  All the people who would revolt against him left, are at the front, or are already dead.  Sure, maybe there's a chance of the oligarchs revolting, but I see that as pretty slim.

Here is Lavrov discussing the reason Russia invaded Ukraine. I believe it was a travesty and a mistake, but Ukraine and the West have made mistakes as well. If Lavrov is correct, that Russian language is completely banned in Ukraine, that would be like the US banning Spanish being spoken in South Texas, which has had Spanish speaking citizens for a couple of centuries. He also brings up the 1999 OSC Summit, where NATO promised not to expand east, and broke the promise.

Not stanning for Russia, glad they are getting this asskicking. If the Baltics, Poland, and Eastern Europe wouldn't have joined NATO, they would have been invaded again and back under Russian control.

Russian isn’t banned in Ukraine. Ukrainian is the only official state language and media, official communications, elections, and state institutions are required to use Ukrainian. Russian citizens must renounce Russian citizenship and accept Ukrainian to publish books in Russian. These laws were in place before the full-scale invasion but not before the 2014 invasion.

Russian books and media cannot be imported from Russia, Belarus, or occupied territories and post-Soviet Russian music and entertainment can’t be performed unless the reformers have condemned the invasion.  This is because Russia uses information and culture as a weapon. Important to note that the most strident restrictions only came after the 2022 invasion.

Everything Lavrov says is a lie, so it’s not really helpful to engage or respond to it. You can’t address the complaints because they are made up.

This is why I posted it. There are some smart sumbitches in here, with first hand knowledge, that would know what is true or not.

Ideology caused the Nazis to reject quantum mechanics as "Jew science" because basically every physicist was Jewish except for Heisenberg. So Heisenberg's work on the bomb was done in constant fear that some higher up would find out he was delving into forbidden science (ironic) and get cancelled.

Yeah, I get it. Russians are good at this and have invested a lot in manufacturing sensible narratives that get traction. And for years (and now we are doing it again) the U.S. and West have been reactive.

But even if this was 100 percent true: If the Russians said “we will take our tanks and soldiers back home and you can have your land back; in exchange we want you to open Russian schools,” I am pretty sure Ukraine would sign on. It’s a lunatic justification to invade a country.

Yeah, this has been litigated to death already. None of what he said is true. Russian is still widely spoken in Ukraine, their current President is one of the speakers. However, Ukraine has its own language, Ukrainian, which they feel speaks to their history more, so they passed some laws to make it the preferred language for governance. They never banned anything, BUT even if they had (which they HAVE NOT), it's none of Russia's business. Ukraine is an independent country. A better equivalence would be the US invading Mexico because its official language was Spanish, and we insist they speak English.
Also, there were never any promises that NATO wouldn't expand, because they can't make that promise. The NATO charter requires a country to come to NATO itself independently to apply so long as they meet the basic requirements and MORE IMPORTANTLY consensus (i.e., unanimous) votes of all members. That means there is no "VETO" option. So for them to not allow members in would violate their entire charter.

He either is completely tone-deaf (as a result of Russian arrogance) or doesn't care, but Russia's invasions of Ukraine 100% justify all of the Warsaw Pact countries joining NATO.

Trump suggests Ukraine 'play offensive' as Russia downplays prospect of Putin-Zelenskyy summit

Trump said it's "hard" to "win a war without attacking an invaders country."

ByMichelle Stoddart and Patrick Reevell
August 21, 2025, 7:02 PM

Amid Russian resistance to his peacemaking efforts, President Donald Trump on Thursday appeared to suggest Ukraine go on the offensive militarily.

In a post to his social media platform, Trump criticized former President Joe Biden's approach to the conflict, claiming Biden "would not let Ukraine FIGHT BACK, only DEFEND."

"It is very hard, if not impossible, to win a war without attacking an invaders country. It’s like a great team in sports that has a fantastic defense, but is not allowed to play offensive. There is no chance of winning!" Trump wrote.

Biden last year reversed a long-standing policy and authorized Ukraine to use American-supplied ATACM long-range missiles to strike inside of Russia, but before that the administration had blocked strikes inside of Russia, only allowing the Ukrainian military to use shorter-range missiles to strike in Ukrainian territory seized by Russia.

Trump long opposed allowing Ukraine to strike Russia, heavily criticizing Biden for authorizing it and as President he has appeared to discourage it as escalatory.

But Trump has recently taken an interest in the possibility of Ukrainian strikes deep into Russia. has taken interest in the possibility of Ukrainian strikes deep into Russia. The White House confirmed July reports that Trump discussed with Zelenskyy whether Ukraine would be able to strike St. Petersburg and Moscow with U.S.-supplied weapons. But the White House insisted that Trump was "asking a question, not encouraging further killing."

It is unclear whether Trump is hinting at any policy change on U.S. support for Ukraine with his post on Thursday, though he did write at the end: "Interesting times ahead!!!"

Trump's post came as Russia's foreign minister, Sergey Lavrov, downplays the prospect of a summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the coming weeks. The White House said this week Putin "promised" to sit-down with Zelenskyy, but Russia has not confirmed.

In remarks on Thursday, Lavrov said a meeting between the two leaders could only take place once all major components of a peace agreement are worked out.

“Our president has repeatedly said that he is ready to meet, including with Mr. Zelenskyy, on the understanding that all issues requiring consideration at the highest level will be thoroughly worked out and experts and ministers will prepare appropriate recommendations," Lavrov said.

Such conditions appeared to make a meeting in the near future very unlikely.Like Putin, Lavrov sought to cast Zelenskyy as an illegitimate leader, saying when "it comes to signing future agreements, the question of the legitimacy of the person signing these agreements on the Ukrainian side will be resolved." Putin has taken to not mentioning Zelenskyy by name, instead giving his government the moniker "Kyiv regime."

Lavrov also continued to insist Russia have a role in any security guarantees for Ukraine post-war. He rejected the European-led discussions as "futile."

While Trump projected optimism on Monday on peace talks, he's now saying he'll know whether a deal can be made in "two weeks."

"Well, I'll let you know in about, I would say within two weeks, we're going to know one way or the other. After that, we'll have to maybe take a different tack, but we'll see, but we'll know pretty soon," Trump said during an interview with radio host Todd Starnes.

Meanwhile, Zelenskyy is accusing Russia of trying to "wriggle out" of a meeting.

"Right now, the signals coming from Russia are, to be honest, simply indecent. They are trying to wriggle out of the need to hold a meeting. They do not want to end this war. They continue massive attacks against Ukraine and extremely intense assaults on the front line. And on top of that, they are launching missiles at an American enterprise -- just like they do at many of our other completely civilian targets."

Zelenskyy said he will continue diplomatic discussions with partners and encouraged greater pressure on Russia to end the war, which began when Putin's forces invaded Ukraine in Feb. 2022.

"Each day now adds more shape to the future security architecture for Ukraine: weapons, funding, cooperation with our partners, forces on land, in the air, and at sea," Zelenskyy said on Thursday.

ABC News' William Gretsky and Anna Sergeeva contributed to this report.

Mostly people get pissed off by the Surly Right because they constantly pronounce  theories and Fox News talking points as fact.  The Surly CR Cabol has a little use for people who post talking points as fact with little or no analysis or detail.
