Not quite sure what you are asking....UN has been in the Soviet and now Russia pockets ( and many other countries not tied to the US or our close allies) for years. I am in no way taking Russia's side on this, but the UN has been and still is a waste of corruption throughout the years and has literally been a thorn in the US side. Should have kicked ALL of those diplomats (many spies) and their diplomatic immunity out of New York and the country years ago.

I'm asking what is the UN's purpose. Why does it exist in your mind. Why was it formed? Why isn't it shut down?

I don't agree that it's been in Soviet/Russian pockets or other countries. I do agree that it can be a forum to express anti American views, but having a forum to express anti American views by other countries doesn't have to be wholly a bad thing.

2,500 meters. And yes, that would be standard.

It's also missing an adjective.  Yes, I suppose radiation levels are being detected.  Are they safe, unsafe, elevated, normal?

Not sure how you cut off a facility like you're talking about, but I can only imagine some stupendous buried Soviet bunker built over the last 70 years that would make a Bond villain blush. I've got to think it likely has its own redundant power supply/communications and is buried a mile underground with all sorts of food storage and shit.

Maybe the ventilation system in the bunker is as good as the Russian resupply in Ukraine.

Maybe. That's way too simplistic for me. When you read other analysts you can tell there are major malfunctions with how the Russian army operates in terms of their communications and coordination. I do not believe Russia sent in those paratroopers to those airfields expecting Ukraine to just surrender them.

The fact that Russian convoys, even this far into the war, are so unguarded, makes me think that they were not expecting much, if any, resistance.

The Russian airborne troops that assaulted the airport near Kyiv on the first day or two were in no way equipped or trained to face Ukrainian resistance at any level - they were fucking walking around in plain sight of civilians (and CNN news crews) at the airport, they did not have a perimeter established, and the list goes on.

9 minutes ago, SL Xpress said:

Not to mention, they don't have the command structure to easily change strategy. I'm assuming that's because no one wants to question orders from the person above them, all the way to the top.

No, they don't.  American (and other Western units) have a lot more latitude and training to adjust at the lower levels.  Plus, American just spent almost 20 years fighting in situations where a lot of engagements were happening at company and platoon level, where junior officers and NCOs were having to change strategies on the fly.

9 minutes ago, SL Xpress said:

It's not like the paratroopers are the only forces being destroyed in Ukraine.

I think what he's talking about is that were they using the airborne troops in place of regular or mechanized infantry and Russia's use/training/equipping of their airborne forces is far different than ours and it shows.

Look at the massive coordination of the first Gulf War, and how our units were chosen based on the expected opposition - we had our airborne (and air assault) troops in the mix (and our 82nd Abn was basically mechanized), but they were guarding flanks of the regular/armored/mechanized divisions that were going to be facing the (expected) kind of resistance that the Russians are facing in Ukraine.

Not a big fan of Kamil Galeev's thread.

And yet we are hearing Belarus is going to be sending in their own airborne units.

It's not that paratroopers can't fight, or even function in a somewhat mechanized manner (we basically mechanized the 82nd in the first Gulf War with trucks), it's that they aren't the troops you send down the highway to spearhead the main invasion of a country of 44 million people.  You use them to guard flanks and exploit breakthroughs.

What about the drones?  They need more of those if they don’t have enough to wipe that out yet, should be a top priority to get to them.

People seem to think it's worthless if if has no "teeth," no ability to impose some form of sanctions on its members.  But, the US would not have acceded to such a treaty/body and neither would have USSR, China, and a lot of other countries.

A forum where a "world opinion" can be established has some value, even, and maybe especially, when it conflicts with ours.

So, Nicole and I have been doing acid and I have a plan: Some rich guy needs to run an ad in all countries looking for mercenaries. Coordinate all of it through Poland and give them equipment paid for by donations. And send those guys in with heavy equipment. BTW, I'll be behind them every step of the way.

As Royalsfan and other have pointed out this conflict is turning commodities markets on their head. Wheat futures up 70% YOY and that's just the beginning. Russia/Ukraine account for 25% of all wheat exports and 20% of all Corn exports.

Even if the farmers can get their grain planted/harvested Russia seems hell bent on cutting them off from the black sea. Russia has been shelling their ports and has sunk some merchant vessels. I think the Ruskies try and take all of Ukraines black sea coast (they are halfway there) including Odessa and that would make it impossible for Ukraine to export anything they harvest. Almost 95% of Ukraines exports go through the black sea.

Even if they don't succeed, no commercial bulk cargo ship is going to pull into Odessa to get filled up with grain if there is a possibility the Ruskies might shell the ship, the insurance companies wouldn't allow it. Gonna be a wild summer in MENA if this war continues.

I get that normal procedure would be to form a defensive perimeter but it still looks like a target rich environment.

And that's why it is so scary.

A 40 mile supply line that is ripe for the taking and would make the Highway of Death look like child's play.

Ukrainians themselves have to find a way to take it out. Or at least slow it down by taking out the lead elements. Putin is definitely playing the old Soviet game of cat and mouse like their subs and "bears" off of Alaska did in the cold war. He is KGB and he wants to relive the glory days of the Soviet Bloc. He has made a huge blunder and as much as I would like his spy ass sent to hell, the US and NATO have to be careful in how and what to deal with him. I believe that pressured enough, he could try nukes even though we'd blow up the whole fucking world. Somebody asked earlier " are the old checks and balances for nuclear launch still there ?" or are we only dealing with one person who has been backed into a corner and to save face, is willing to risk himself and everyone else too?

The decision is above my pay grade. Unless something changes overnight and there is a huge glow to the east, I'm heading to Houston to watch the Horns kick some SEC ass. 🤘

That would take an awful lot of manpower.  Given that the convoy seems stuck by breakdowns and fuel shortages, I might guess that Ukraine forces are biding their time, getting intel from us, and, if the convoy begins to unfuck itself will be assaulted at the appropriate points to stick it again for another week or so.  And that would be a smart usage of scare resources.

Although blasting the shit out of all those vehicles would be gratifying, it seems militarily unnecessary and a waste of resources as long as it remains stuck.

None of this is news. My point is that the focus on the dependence on air borne troops, or the expectation that Russia would face little resistance, miss the mark for me regarding the central factors of why Russia has failed so spectacularly everywhere but in their northern push out of Crimea. I do not feel like the thread in question was an accurate assessment of what has gone wrong. It is part of what has gone wrong, but not what I would emphasize, especially in the tone he chose.

The way the US recruits, trains, supplies, and organizes its armed forces is night and day different than the Russians. We are in the midst of seeing how those differences play out on the battlefield. By focusing on the poor use of air borne troops, I feel like he's missing much bigger and more important issues regarding the Russian armed services.

I guess that isn't a Javelin hit because they fly up and then down on top of the turret.  Or maybe "direct fire" mode, because that tank looks like it took the hit in center mass.  NLAW are similar.  Russia better hope that wasn't an AT4.

Could have been a HEAT round from another tank, too.

Javelins have at least 2 settings, top-attack and direct-attack, so it could have been a Javelin.

https://youtube.com/shorts/-vhILEnJIh4

One of the things that I see repeated ad nauseam right now is that Javelins "only do top-attack" etc., and this is wrong. You can set it to do direct-attack.

The videos above demonstrate a Javelin doing direct-attack. I first saw it during footage from Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003, where direct-attack was used.

Couldn’t the world police (whatever) arrest Putin and charge him with war crimes and because he’s a threat to himself and others put him in a 5150 psych hold indefinitely and secretly where he can’t get in touch with anyone on  the outside?  Of course we’d have to find him (gotta believe we know where he is) and confront and arrest. Because I apparently now drop acid now  I’m just trying to get him off  the stage. By force.

I really hope that the info about the supply lines being fucked is true.  I've been told by some of the military friends I know that normal prep procedure is 2 weeks worth of "supplies" before the need for resupply after initial launch.  maybe some of the military folks on the thread can enlighten us.
