Cool side story: our Norwegian exchange daughter just finished her stint in the Norwegian army (kinda happy about that, as some of them are now being deployed to the Baltics).  She was a security officer on an airbase.  Not like "stand at the gate and check papers."  Instead, they did regular patrols on some pretty rough terrain.  We asked her to tell us about it, and she said "I can't tell you details."  Okay, but I mean, what were you doing?"  She says with a smile "hunting Russians."  The Norwegians know where the fuckery is.  They always have.

It will.  When Russia takes the gloves off and goes scorched earth.....there will be a lot of scorched earth, cities in ruins, and dead Ukrainians.

And when Putin does that, he has lost.  Completely and totally.  That's the fucking shitty situation Putin is in -- if he loses, he loses.  If he "wins," he loses.

Oh, and he won't even "win."  He won't stop continuing losses of Russian troops and equipment.  The Ukrainians can fight one hell of an insurgency with what they already have on hand.  And how are you going to hunt them down?  Every rock, every tree, is an insurgent.  Get bogged down in a war that will  continue to destroy your capability of fighting, and not be able to replenish your weapons because of sanctions including raw materials?  Yes, please.

Good read on things

Historic debacle

Quote

Each Russian tank destroyed and each Russian soldier killed increases the Ukrainians' courage to resist.  And each Ukrainian killed deepens the Ukrainians' hatred of the invaders. Hatred is the ugliest of emotions. But for oppressed nations, hatred is a hidden treasure. Buried deep in the heart, it can sustain resistance for generations. To reestablish the Russian empire, Putin needs a relatively bloodless victory that will lead to a relatively hateless occupation. By spilling more and more Ukrainian blood, Putin is making sure his dream will never be realised. It won't be Mikhail Gorbachev's name written on the death certificate of the Russian empire: it will be Putin's. Gorbachev left Russians and Ukrainians feeling like siblings; Putin has turned them into enemies, and has ensured that the Ukrainian nation will henceforth define itself in opposition to Russia.

There is really no reason to since RU doesn't own the sky.

Russia doesn't need to own the sky yet.  When the Ukrainians start shooting their convoys and blowing them apart then we know the Russians don't have anything but if they are allowed to move in untouched then trying to run the skies is just incredibly stupid and expensive

Keeping all Russians in Russia and not allowing them to travel to anywhere in Europe does seem harsh, but these are not normal circumstances. So, being that as it may, id like to say its going to be so fucking fantastic in Paris, Rome and Greece, this summer without these bitches there, holy fuck.

You ain’t lying. The clientele at every Ritz Carlton and Four Seasons in Western Europe just dramatically improved overnight.

Didn't those guys along with hundreds of pro-syrian govt fighters get massively buttfucked by a small CAG group in 2018? I remember reading a really interesting article about it a couple of years ago.

I think that was the Wagner company that lost over 200 mercs to a dozen US 'troops'. They had to change their name after that.

While they are badasses, I feel like US Army Special Forces (aka Green Berets) would be better suited for extended infantry operations and working with and through the locals.

This, seals aren't designed for direct contact combat, great at many things though but they are a small force who prefer to work in the shadows or in and out capture/kill/intel missions.

Which is how Putin's going to justify shelling apartment complexes and civilian areas. Once Ukraine started giving out automatic weapons to every day citizens, the Russian army will argue those people have enlisted and are de facto members of the military, so they are no longer protected. It's all bullshit, but it's how they're going to justify attacking civilians.

Replaced the "thumper" M79 grenade launcher in Vietnam. Yes, they still work and effective but no where close to the Javelin (much cheaper though)😁

Yea, I'd think this would be great for supply convoys and fuel trucks. Save the Javelins and NLAWs for tanks and APCs.

Anything is of course welcome, but damn guys, how old are those things?  Do they still work?

Old school LAW rockets

They'll work fine against those silly-ass troop carriers and all the other widgets lighter than a real tank. Against a real tank, no, they probably shouldn't kill it, but I don't doubt that the Ukrainians will come up with creative ways to use them to mind-fuck the crews.

They can also discomfit infantry lurking behind walls and in buildings.

Fuck yeah they do. No hesitation either. Murdering a Russian enemy trying to get on an airbase with their hands would be a fun, exciting story you’d tell the kids at Christmas for years rather than some therapist later in life.

You better shut your dirty whore mouth!  Those javelins are feeding a Raytheon executives jet fuel right now.  My god.  If they have to fly commercial again then this is on you

Can't we just disconnect Russia from the Internet altogether?  China too while we're at it.  Let them live in their bubbles.

I'm sure we can make up the porn deficit elsewhere.

I think we want our side of the story getting over there. Otherwise they are just in their own little echo chamber.

Take out the tracks and maybe even the engine.  Turn the T-72 into a roadblock.

Have to get awful close to pull that off.  In an urban situation, absolutely.  In more open terrain, save them for the thin-skinned vehicles.  Still, better to have than not.

Totally agree.

I know we're pouring St. Javelins into Ukraine, but how well is supply keeping up with demand?  How well are we keeping the front lines supplied?

Yep. My bad. Many that carried the M79 did not also carry a 16, so they combined the two with M203. LAWs are still cool though.

Ironically, the old "thumper" never really went away as it's insanely useful.  You have the 203 of course, the 6-barreled one you see in the movies.  Even small, single-shot derivatives that I think they call the "pirate gun"

Yeah, that's what they told us a LAW would do. They also told us they wouldn't send us into an irradiated area until it was "safe." :)

Anyway, I still remember the smart book drawing of how you're supposed to use LAWs in volley fire against a single tank. Low chance of any one of them doing much, but all at once, that'll make a dude spill his coffee cup.

That's 7000 anti-tank missiles between the Norwegians and the Swedes.

I haven't seen any TOW anti-tank missiles being mentioned, but I bet those are coming from NATO or EU countries. too, if old LAW rockets can be used (on support vehicles, if nothing else).

I already saw some country sending Panzerfausts.... Geez, are people going to try to send them old Steil granates and Panzerschrecks, too?

I'd think the TOW missiles require a much higher degree of training and are so damn big have to be mounted to something.

Whether he makes it or not, and I'm praying for his safety in earnest, he's gonna have a lot of schools and an airport or two named after him when all is said and done.

This.  At some point the Russians are going to commit to just leveling Ukraine. Then the insurgency begins.

And no victory is going to regain access to international grain markets.  He’s captured a prize he can’t use.
