Yeah, he NEVER gave any specifics, but that seems about in line with what he "alluded" to.  Dozens and dozens over the years.

100% we know where they all are and have probably even tried to salvage a few for intel.

The Moskva is damaged but moving under its own power, the U.S. says

Posted 8 minutes ago

A senior defense official says the U.S. is still uncertain about the cause of a fire aboard the Russian warship, the Moskva.

The official says Russian sailors are still fighting the fire, which is extensive, but that the ship is operating under its own power and likely heading for Sevastopol.

Russian defense officials maintain that a fire detonated ammunition on board the ship, while Ukraine says the Moskva was hit by Ukrainian Neptune anti-ship missiles and was sinking.

The official stressed that the Pentagon cannot confirm what caused the damage, but added that less than half a dozen other Russian warships in the northern Black Sea moved further away from the coast after the incident.

The craziest part to me is that they would rather suggest that their crews are so incompetent and their ships are so shitty as to blow up if a guy is smoking in the wrong area as an alternative explanation.   I suppose they do not want to be a weapons manufacturer anymore.

Yep, right now I am sure a bunch of countries are wondering about their weapons orders. Need a helo to mop up goat herders, sure, get a hind. Need to fight someone who can fight back? call NATO.

This has been evident across every facet of the Russian forces.

Along with the failure to contain, it might have set off internal secondary explosions - most likely stored ammo or something equally volatile.  Be funny if the deck popped off like so many Russian tank turrets.

Russia claims it was a fire that exploded ordinance.  They leave out the cause of the fire was a missile strike.

That's what the US Navy Says. The other two of that class are in the Med I think.

They are also claiming it is on it's way to it's home port of Sevastopol in Crimea. Still on fire though.

Quote

Russian Navy’s Black Sea flagship appears to be heading toward Sevastopol, Crimea, after sustaining major damage in a fire Wednesday, a senior defense official told reporters Thursday.

The Department of Defense cannot confirm what caused the fire on RTS Moskva (121), the defense official said. Moskva was about 60-65 nautical miles south of Odesa when the fire started.

“It very well could have been from an external source like like a missile,” the defense official said. “That that range is not out of range for a Neptune. Sixty miles is well within the Neptune’s effective range. But it also could have been something else. So again, … we’re just being careful here.”

Missiles in the magazine?   You see the big tubes on the side of the ship that held the 16 cruise missiles right?  I'm probably gonna go with that 16 is a full load for the ship and you head back to the dock or alongside a replenishment ship to get more.  I doubt they had any more stored down below anywhere.

If the Neptune missile hits the side and those things cook off no telling what on the boat gets destroyed.

Yeah--we have our missiles in the magazine.

I can't imagine that they actually store the missiles in those missile tubes that are on the deck.  Surely those are only launch tubes.  Because aside from the danger of having highly explosive missiles right there on your decks, they'd be exposed to the elements.  And those are the launch tubes for your anti-ship missiles, and given that Ukraine doesn't have a navy you wouldn't expect those to be needed.  So surely they were empty, right?

The Exocet in Falklands that got the British ship is pretty close.

Argentina lost the Belgrano to a sub. A few other ships were hit. I cannot think of a more recent loss of a Flagship since then. Damn Russia, your navy sucks more than your army.

They're stored externally due to the size of the ordinance and much easier to reload.  They are contained in those launch tubes and sealed to protect them from the elements.  Whether anti-ship needed or not, you can't just take them off nor would they want to in case things pop off and there is an escalation.

He's bringing 250 backups in 10 duffel bags to hand out to folks when they cross. He's a good dude.

It has been reported they used those missiles to launch against land based targets.

I know the Neptune missles are brand new.  any idea if they can be aircraft mounted?

that would be huge if they could be.... would allow 1-2 of the UKa Mig's to maybe fly out 30-40 miles into the black sea and make sure they could hit her in Sevestopol and any support ships helping her out.   might be a way to wipe out the entire Russian defensive fleet off UKa

Cleaning my fish tanks and still laughing. They lost their damn flagship. Don't care how Use this for full propaganda. A farmer swam out there with a limpet mine. Who cares. The Moscow (of all cities) is chugging back to it base to lick its wounds. Hammer it again once in port. Sink that fucker.

All I have seen is they are ground launched. But what is the fire control on that ship like right now? Radar? Navy experts wanna chime in please.

1. They are pretty big at over 5m or >15 feet and launched from shore

2. Ukraine does not have aircraft to spare.

3. They have a range of 190 miles.  Odesa and Mykolaiv are 180 miles and Kherson is 140 miles away

Huh.  Well, that sounds like it might be a bit of a design flaw.

Yesterday, Putin again mentioned "genocide in Donbas" as an excuse to attack Ukraine. Of course, this is a blatant lie. The number of civilian casualties dropped sharply after the signing of the Minsk agreements and the end of the active phase of the conflict. Here is the data from the report of the OSHR mission:

 Thread ⬇️ 1/5

Moreover, most of those killed in recent years are victims of mine warfare. People were blown up by mines, of which there are more than 20 thousand on both sides. An important detail: almost a third of those killed by shelling are residents of the territories of Donbass controlled by Ukraine (OSCE data)

 2/5

Conclusion: from the statistics accumulated by international independent missions, it is obvious that the "genocide in Donbass" is an invention of Putin's propaganda to justify the attack on Ukraine.

https://osce.org/files/f/documents/1/f/487885.pdf

 5/5

^This is true, but how crazy is it, that 18 people in total died in the Donbas region last year, but this was their justification for the displacement of over 4 million people and the systematic rape and murder of tens of thousands in Mariupol alone and hundreds in other areas.

Short documentary on the Ukrainian railway war effort.  On board a round trip from Lviv to Kyiv, men returning to enlist after escorting their families to Lviv/border, then women, children, and the elderly continuing to evacuate.

(24 minutes, but it has subtitles so can watch at 1.5 speed and catch everything in 16 minutes)

So thinking about trying to sink the Moskva; I was looking at where they’d take her in Sevastopol. Looks like when Google flew it earlier this year she was docked just down the way from the big dry dock they’d probably head for. Lots of tall buildings and shit in the way to try and hit her again in the harbor; I’d try to hit it again tonight while she’s still at sea.

Navy/Missile guys: I was looking at Russian footage of them shooting AA missiles from the Moskva against that Bayraktar. The little air defense missile would sort of bloop up out of the launcher, hang there, then the propellant would fire and off it'd go.

It looked like a wonder of precision engineering, something that would have to be well-maintained by well-trained crew. And it's on a ship full of Russians.

What are the odds that one of those things managed to arm itself, then for some reason nose-dived back into the deck? Maybe not big enough to sink a ship, but look there's something else explosive underneath?

Everything Russian seems to have the vibe of drunk dudes playing with bottle rockets at a gas station.

I'd send some helos on a borderline suicide mission and hit that fuel depot and the Moscow at the same time.  Have a SEAL team off the coast in rapid response vessels to scoop em up.

Honestly, does anyone in the world relieve believe Putin's BS?  I think we're at the point where everyone knows Putin and his regime are lying non-stop.  The only ones who support him don't support him because they feel it is a moral obligation to back these fabrications... its just because they don't like us.  "Them" vs the West.  That's it.  Putin should just stop lying but I know that's not in his DNA.

I’m pretty sure those are dry grain storage. I’m all for screwing up the dock, but cruise missiles coming from the north I would think would have a good chance of being hit by Russian SAMs (I mean you would think the Ruskies would stage anti air defense around their port, but maybe they were counting on the Moskva for that?…)

How many Neptunes does Ukraine have?

One thing to me that makes Ukraine's claim stronger is the fact that the remainder of the Russian fleet has backed off a bit. Why if it was a mistake?

The big grey things may be dry grain storage (also highly flammable) but there is most certainly fuel at the edge of that dock where the Moscow sits in the photo.
