  1. This thread has actually turned into a great exemplar of the true issue, conflating facts with opinions. It makes it entirely impossible to have an actual discussion when one side doesn't just have a differing opinion on policy, but also denies objective reality. In this thread we've heard: From @Onboard 2.0: The Georgia law allows providing food and water so long as it doesn't display a political candidate or party's name. However, this is not true. The readily available text makes clear that it prohibits anyone from providing food or water, period. From @Ridingtosunset: Coal is a cheaper energy source than natural gas, wind, and solar. Readily available data from the government shows that even without subsidies, coal is more than twice as expensive as any of those sources. This should also be obvious by the fact that natural gas has been replacing coal for years. From @Ridingtosunset: Suggested that renewable energy sources aren't actually environmentally friendly and produce more or the same CO2 over their lifecycle compared to fossil fuels. Again, readily available data shows that Solar and Wind (and nuclear for that matter) produce less than 10% of the CO2 a comparable Combined Cycle Natural gas plant does less than 5% of a comparable coal plant. From @Ridingtosunset: China doesn't have more renewable energy capacity than the United States. The truth is it has double what the capacity of the Untied States. From @ChickenSandwich: An insurrection isn't an insurrection, dictionary be damned. All of these aren't opinions, but rather misstatements of easily determined facts. None of these folks have (so far) admitted they were incorrect about these facts. There is no way to debate opinions on policy if we can't agree to objective reality. Incivility arises due to this break from reality.

  2. I'm shocked and confused that all of these transfers want to come play for Beard and not the true mastermind behind all of his success, Mark Adams.

  3. The thing is Lebron doesn't give a shit about this black girl or the one the cop saved from getting gutted - it feeds his ego to be thought of as an activist who transcends sport (despite being a complete moron with no actual convictions). Using his platform to act indignant about this and getting his balls sucked by woke sports journos nurses his God complex. The guy is just a complete fraud in every sense of the word.

  4. Maybe the fact that there is a place where your ideas get constantly and consistently called out for their dangerous stupidity isn’t evidence of other people’s intolerance. Maybe it’s evidence that you are just dangerously stupid. If you, and I mean the proverbial you, really want to see people come together and the world to be a better place, you’ll quit focusing on what THEY need to do differently and start focusing on how YOU can be a better person in the world. That’s it. If enough people do that, it’s like a miracle, the world magically gets better.

  5. just a reminder that this was the original post. then this asshat proceeded to veer into blatant falsehoods that are easily disproven. THIS is how we got here. @OnBoard had another pristine example of disseminating verifiably false information, and doesn't really seem to be all that concerned about it. he cared enough to post the falsehood with certainty, and then when shown he was wrong, just kind of shrugged it away. THAT'S how we got here. fake news is the opiate of the republican party. didn't always used to be that way. it's a shame, really.

  6. *demands to be taken seriously* *says he wants to have a legitimate discussion* *posts easily disprovable lies* *when shown that what he's posting are lies doubles down* *crowd sourced* *returns next week under a new username to grievance in DT about how legitimate discussions can't be had in CR*

  7. I really, really like Casey. He seems very easy to root for. Dude is a son of a former Oklahoma QB and yet he stuck with us knowing he was not going to get a chance over Sam. Hope he gets his shot this season to show what he can do.

  9. Holy fucking shit. Fuck every single one of you on the last 3 pages. A fucking boring and pointless uniform argument with a really stupid real estate discussion mixed in. Just fuck each and every one of you dipshits getting involved with either thing.

  11. Your analysis of his analysis is horseshit. Lebron's original tweet was incredibly irresponsible, and he should have just said "Hey, I was wrong to post that earlier so I took it down. I'm sorry for jumping to conclusions before gathering the facts." But he's too much of a narcissist to just admit he was wrong.

  12. Holy fucking shit. Do you cry about every fucking thing? A fucking pointless post crying about pointless bullshit with a hint of self-righteous indignation mixed in. Fuck you, dad, go police the fucking daily texan or sum shit. How’d I do?

  13. So I gave you 3 specific questions, and you answered literally none of them and then instead talked about whether water may or may not be a problem at a polling station., which wasn't a question I asked you. This is why certain people might accuse others of being disingenuous in their efforts to "have an honest conversation." Because a large number of folks aren't even making a real attempt.

  15. You don't have to confine it to insurrection. I'm nowhere near as far left as you, and it's plain to me that the GOP fully intends to subvert democracy at every level, because unfettered voting as contemplated by the Constitution, as amended, and representatives and Senators voting according to the will of their constituents means Republicans lose vast amounts of power. They also plainly intend to use the Supreme Court to undo democratically enacted legislation under the rubric of Constitutionality, but is nothing more than a thinly disguised exercise of raw political power.

  16. Of course that's your contention. You're a first year grad student. You just got finished reading some Marxian historian, Pete Garrison probably, you’re gonna be convinced of that until next month when you get to James Lemon, then you’re gonna be talking about how the economies of Virginia and Pennsylvania were entrepreneurial and capitalist way back in 1740. That's gonna last until next year, you’re gonna be in here regurgitating Gordon Wood, talkin’ about, you know, the Pre-revolutionary utopia and the capital-forming effects of military mobilization.

  20. so Benchmark (Pfizer vaccine study) calls me yesterday and asks if I would be interested in participating in the "booster study". They were looking for 20 of their original vaccine study subjects that fall in a timeline of (longer than 5 months and shorter than 7 months) since receiving the second dose of vaccine. 10 of the 20 needing to be over the age of 56 10 under the the of 56. I'm over that age and at 6 mo and 3 weeks since vaccine. They give a blind dose of either 5mcg or 10mcg to each person and then start checking antibodies at 1 week, 1 month, 6 months and 18 months. I just got home from their clinic, where I got swabbed, blood drawn and a booster vaccine (stuck at 10:00)......

  23. No, coal is more expensive than NG and renewables because it requires a shitload of effort to mine out, transport by freight car or truck, burn, filter, and handle the waste product. You're acting like the regulations against coal to minimize ash and byproducts in the air are some onerous thing - I prefer less acid rain and mercury in the water myself, but if you prefer to ignore those negative externalities that's your prerogative I suppose.

  25. The reason this thread is 12 pages just clicked with me, it's not because of the incident in question, obviously everyone agrees it's not a good thing someone is dead and it's not great that a police officer was forced to be the judge of who got to die that day (either let someone get stabbed or stop the person doing the stabbing) It's because the same thing that republicans are accused of (outrage for outrage sake) win the Dr. Seuss or "cancelled whatever" is EXACTLY what is happening from some of the biggest supporters of the reform movement. Outrage culture is detrimental to progress in all ways. I think what people are pissed off about is how equally dangerous the rhetoric of all cops are sociopathic unarmed black person hunters is. When you start to add context back into the equation that is when you start to understand the motive behind the outrage. That is what a lot of Q anon extremists and sympathizers don't understand. As standalone occurrences they are very similar from "outrage bad, be better", but when you group them together and look at why there is outrage it's from 2 completely different planets. In this case the outrage is fueled by the pursuit of accountability, justice, and reform of a criminal and law enforcement system that has systemically oppressed and disenfranchised specific people's. In the other case the outrage is fueled by selfish personal gain or hatred. Lebron James doesn't hate that cop. He is frustrated beyond good choice of words that on a day of triumph for the cause of accountability another cop shot another black person. I'm tired of the equivalency argument of "our cause is just as good as yours, because they are just like your opinion, man" - this is not true. There is a true definition of good and evil when it comes to society and more often than not the selfish self centered take is on the evil side of that.

  26. You, as a partisan Republican, voted for a guy who literally tried to prevent the peaceful transfer of power with support of a majority of Republican house members, even AFTER his supporters attacked your nation’s capital. So you know, maybe your problem is with them.

  27. The fact this incident is even being debated tells me a lot about the BLM and social justice movement. A lot of these people don’t give a shit about facts and really don’t give a shit about black lives. This officer likely saved a black life yesterday, and certainly saved her from serious bodily injury. It’s a shame that they can’t be reasonable as it really hurts their credibility and impedes the reaching of what the underlying goal should be.

  29. I have been avoiding this thread, but cannot any longer. My in-laws gave us a check around xmas for $1500. Wife asked me to get cash for her because if it goes into our bank account, it’ll be used for other things. Also, she doesn’t want me to know how much she spends on her nails. (For the record, I don’t care what she spends on them). No problem. So I go to bank and come home with cash in an envelope. 15 hundred dollar bills. She used a couple bills for something and the the envelope floated around the house for a week or so. One night as I was putting the dog ( There isn’t another shred of a bill anywhere. No sign of envelope. Later we’re standing in the yard trying to figure it out. She thinks they tore it up and it blew away. No way, wind wasn’t that hard. I get a paper towel and shred it, toss it around the yard. “See, not moving”. Other dog, 2yr old mix walks around and eats every single piece of paper towel I put down. A fucking vacuum. Next day dog shits, I spray it down with the hose. Full of shredded money. I told her to write it off as a dumb mistake. No way. She’s got gloves on and is cleaning every shit from both dogs for the next week. It was only ever found in older dog. One day she’s going to tape the money back together and send it in as damaged currency. For now it’s in a pile in the laundry room, waiting to get lost or accidentally thrown away. We have a conversation about never letting the dogs have free reign again while we’re gone. We have dog door and mud room set up specifically for them. Fast forward to today. I’m running out with kids for school. She’s going walking with neighbor. “I’m leaving the dogs out, I won’t be gone very long,” she says. Sure? Ok. 8:30 I get a text with a pic asking what shit is on the floor. They are something of the kids that exploded and is stuck to our rug we got in Morocco a few years ago. I really want to ask her when she’s going to learn. I feel like I know the answer. tldr; dogs ate wife’s money, after she trusts them again they tore up shit and fucked up a rug.

  30. Man- that's not even what the China thing was about at all. I think you know this but maybe you don't. Lebron is all about "an injustice anywhere is an injustice everywhere" Morey tweets- we are standing at you during this time of injustice Hong Kong Lebron- tweets- well actually- and then takes a shit all over Morey b/c he makes so much money in China with credible sources basically saying he tried to get Morey's job. If you can't see how incredibly hypocritical and cynical that is- and how far apart from what you are saying then you have a room temp IQ, you aren't knowledgeable about how that all played out (my guess), or you are intentionally trolling/being incredibly intellectually dishonest. Nobody (at least not rational and idiotic) is saying Lebron has to give a shit about every injustice in the world- it's perfectly fine that he has his platform and wants to speak out on his issues. But he for fuck sure doesn't get to use his platform to fight injustices he cares about while cancelling Morey (who damn sure has earned the right to have a platform himself- albeit in a different way than Lebron did) for talking about injustices he cares about and has a personal connection to.

  31. Yeah, this is the thing that needs to be addressed. Despite doing no independent research, @Onboard 2.0 felt comfortable parroting an assertion he heard on the radio. Presumably, he did so because he felt he could trust the source. But here, the relevant fact is easily available to anyone with a computer. And when presented with evidence that his trusted radio program blatantly lied to him, the best he can do is a very reluctant mea culpa. What should be happening is @Onboard 2.0 re-evaluating the trust worthiness of his radio program. And he should be re-evaluating other information he has gotten from that source. But none of that is apparent. Why are people like @Onboard 2.0 so willing to speak with certainty on subjects they have no real knowledge of? Why do people like @Onboard 2.0 not try and educate themselves? Why do they insist on embracing sources that have proven time and again to be unreliable? Is it simply comfort? Laziness? And why won't he answer your questions directly? Until we can address this problem, I don't see an easy way to us to reembrace civil discussion.
