Sounds like an overmatched staff to me.

Also, haha best fans and stadium in college football.

Also, way to bury the lead there, Eva Braun:  3) If a decision is indeed made on the aforementioned timeline, I do not think it would be to Texas A&M.

Both are true. aggy isn't good at explaining the nuances of this. There were no class size limits and DKR's practices would have Saban saying, 'Alright, alright, alright' as DKR was signing big classes and processing guys. So, while every team had to get down to the limits before the season DKR was taking more players than other teams and processing guys. There is an early  '70s Texas Monthly article about it.

The NCAA put in class limits of 30 in the early 70s.  Before that Texas, and other large schools, were signing 40-50 a class, which the smaller schools could not afford to do, and processing players to get down to scholarship limits.

Yes. Not only that, but they're ignoring the obvious fucking fact that if herman and the BOMC pulled the strings on this poll just to fuck with Jimbo, do you really think they'd list the head coach at the University of Texas 2nd?

Critical Thinking simply doesn't exist there. There is only cognitive dissonance and brutalist architecture.

Thanks for pointing out the article, it's a good one.

Spoiler

Another rules change may have a more positive impact. Last year the NCAA imposed an annual limit of 30 scholarships for football and placed similar restrictions on other sports. The scholarship limit is intended to combat spiraling costs, but in the Southwest Conference the new rule may have the additional effect of restoring balance to the league. This is the hope of many private school backers who recognize that the scholarship limit may be the last chance for their schools to regain parity.

Most of the private schools, as their followers point out, couldn’t afford to recruit many more than 30 football players before the NCAA reduced the scholarship limit, so the new ceiling won’t hurt their football programs. But Texas and the other state schools have been bringing in closer to 50 players a year. Because of the scholarship limit, between fifteen and twenty boys who might otherwise have signed with Texas will have to go elsewhere. The state schools will no longer monopolize all the talent, and the private schools will be able to supplement their teams with players who in other years were good enough to play for Texas.

One long-suffering Baylor fan sees this progression of events; the private school teams will get better, and Texas will get worse, because it will no longer be able to rely on a bottomless pit of talent—third team, fourth team, fifth team, red shirts—to make up for some bad guesses in recruiting or a devastating string of injuries. If he is right, then the gap between Texas and the rest of the league should narrow considerably within five years.

But is he right? The other state schools—Arkansas, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech—recruit as many players as the Longhorns year after year, and yet they have fared little better against UT than the private schools. Southern California has limited itself to 30 scholarships for years without damaging its standing as a perennial national power. Like Texas, the Trojans win with quality, not numbers.

Royal himself isn’t particularly worried, which should be a clue. He would like to see the limit slightly higher, closer to 35, but “as long as everybody is under the same blanket, it’s all right.” What worries Royal and other members of the UT athletic family is that pressure from outside the conference will cause the NCAA to raise the limit to 35—and that the Southwest Conference won’t go along.

“I can’t holler too loud about a rule that is national,” he says, “but if the national limit is higher and the conference won’t go along, we’d really have to think that one over.”

If Royal isn’t worried, it is because all the trends are in UT’s favor. Royal says that recruiting hasn’t really changed since he entered coaching, that Texas has the same pluses now it had twenty years ago (“anything a student could want, better prospects for employment after his football days are over, more influential alumni, more social variety”) and the same minuses (“big, cold, impersonal, no contact with teachers, good players sitting on the bench”). The spiel may be the same today, but it is falling on different ears. Twenty and thirty years ago, the best high school football was played in West Texas and in the smaller cities; the all-white big city schools were notoriously weak. UT’s size intimidated schoolboy athletes from towns with fewer people than the enrollment on the Austin campus. Longhorn recruiters were most successful in the Houston area and along the cosmopolitan Gulf Coast, but they had trouble in the rural areas. Coaches from other schools played up UT’s size and emphasized their own folksiness; one former TCU player recalls that Frog coach Abe Martin would concentrate on the parents, “and by the time Ole Abe was through with them, they wouldn’t let the Texas coaches on the farm.”

My favorite is scholarship limitations argument to explain them sucking and us dominating under DKR-- because we oversigned and hoarded talent.

First, you can go look at old Dave Campell's magazines from the 60s and 70s.  They signed many more players than we did.

Second, the SWC imposed scholarship limits in the early 60s.

The SWC scholarship limits went into effect in '57 and are why Bear Bryant moved on. And yes they were put in due to Bryant's practices.

It's actually pretty different.  While TexAgs/$9.95ers never talked about the Volleyball incident, they are almost all responding to questions about the fight.  We know the volleyball incident didn't occur, which helps make sense as to why they wouldn't address it.  But if the fight actually occurred and it was "suggested" they deny it occurred or minimize it's occurrence.  That's a much different pattern than the pool party incident.  And it suggests the fight actually occurred--especially because such facts almost always come out.  See, e.g., Quandre Diggs complaining about the BYU-related posters put up by Strong; Darius White and Demarco Cobbs getting into a fight after White badmouthed Texas to DGB; etc.

In order to give Surly a chuckle, perhaps, I may have colored the account of what happened. You of all people, Katfid...

I love how they claim our many aggy threads and posts are proof we're "obsessed" with them. If what they mean is we've been obsessed with laughing at them for the past 80 years, I suppose they're right. Those clowns provide endless humor.

Obsession noted.

Advantage aggy.

Locker room fights are a prerequisite to winning a natty.  Saban does it, Dabo does it, Urban did it, and you can bet that Jimbo Fisher and Co. do it.  In fact, Jimbo probably does it better than those aforementioned coaches.  Stupid sips.

That is why Herman and Urban knew they would win with Jones. He had already won 3 fights in the locker room before taking over on the field.

Good God. They really are trying to take over the state through sheer numbers.
I’ll give them a hand for recognizing they’d never do it through quality, but the prospect of 70,000 people being indoctrinated by aggy with almost all of them staying in state after graduation isn’t very appealing.

They had a lot of fighting role models in Columbus back in the day. Zach fighting his wife. Zach fighting for Urban's love and loyalty. Urban's wife fighting Urban to fire Zach. Herman fighting to keep Zach from leg humping him...

Listener questions send Looch into more rants. "What would happen if we lost to Arkansas?" "Has the modern, fast game passed by Jimbo's old coaching style and technique?" (😬😂) He talks about some Longhorns troll that keeps tweeting at him (which one of you?), and even let's out that *gulp* Texas is better than aggy right now.

Remember weeks ago when Ritz Bit got hit in the face with a volleyball and then had a temper tantrum, causing them to lose a host of potential recruits who were turned off by his unsteady demeanor and quickness to anger? That controversy simmered for weeks yet aggy never addressed the rumor, and Jimbo never apologized. A similar pattern is emerging here. The entire team was late coming out of the locker room at half time. Rumors of a team fight circulated because the team was not allowed to leave the stadium after their humiliating home loss. Yet Ritz Bit has not addressed what happened. Not a word. He's just using txags to try to sweep it all under the rug. Those aggy never learn.
why would Jimbo apologize to his marks. he's got their money now he wants them to free him from the shithole. gonna be more shit like this until aggy sets him free.

This is all so confusing!!
So Looch says the locker room fight is a fake story created by Longhorn "exaggerates" on a message board (they always blame orangebloods for everything by the way....muahahaha!)...then a random poster "knows for a fact" that this story was actually created by the lying, manipulating Longhorn staff and spread to deliberately harm poor Saint Jimbo? Does that mean that by proxy, we are the tools of this deceitful staff of the puppet-master Tom Herman? Or is the Texas staff stupid and lazy, and THAT is the reason they have to lie to so many innocent recruits and their families? And are Matt Hayes and Texas Football somehow also on Herman's payroll, purposefully trying to bring down a championship winning coach of multiple leagues?  This seems like a pretty complex web of conspiracy for a stupid, man-kissing, vodka-swilling, titty bar cocaine-snorting, arrogant asshole like Tom HERman to mastermind.
I wish an aggy would just make a documentary like "Loose Change" or something so I know the real depths of this Longhorn Illuminati-anti-aggy theory.
...which begs the question: if TexAgs was a gif, what would it be??

Pretty sure Phlegm has answered that question many times over.
aggy must really be taking care of FWK.

fwk is full of shit. there WAS a brawl in aggy locker room. there are videos..

University of Phoenix at aggy
uh nope. UCF West. UCF has more students than aggy. UCF also has a legitimate national championship in the 21st century.

UCF is also closer to the beach, WDW, UNIVERSAL, and The Fun Spot. And as the coup de grace UCF has motherfucking Waffle Houses near their campuses.

That's because they have 12 campuses which all count towards total enrollment I think. At least Aggy is quarantined to fewer campuses.

Even being a massive commuter school, UCF has more to offer than Aggy.
