It is sad anytime anyone's life is cut short. It is even sadder when it is kids, as it appears there is in this situation. That being said, it amazes me the level of "devastation" being expressed by people on this board considering that they were not close, personal friends or even acquaintances of those involved. Hell, the level of hand wringing by the public is ridiculous. It is sad and tragic, but life goes on.20 points

The world that some people live in where they think someone purposefully, on national television, at MSNBC of all places, tried to sneak in a N-bomb to talk about Kobe. Must be a scary world full of monsters around every corner.19 points

JFC some of you on here just can’t stop the schtick for one fucking second? Just stay off and don’t post. Fucking kids died so stfu.18 points

I guess there is something emboldening about shitting on other people's moments, but again you could have predicted which posters would do that with great accuracy. There should be no astonishment that this many people are affected by his passing. None. To express otherwise is to declare you appreciate little of what makes people tick and you don't get to credit yourself with emotional bravery for what is just ignorance. Yes, we tend to be more put out by famous people passing than the regular folks who do so daily. But famous people connect all of us in ways that others don't. We watch their games, watch their movies, listen to their songs etc and share those experiences with people we would otherwise have no business interacting with. You can mark the passage of time in your life by those experiences. If you were an avid sportsfan, Kobe was, for good or for ill, one of those markers. Yeah, you didn't know him and he certainly didn't know you, but you've probably spent a Christmas or more on a couch surrounded by people you care about, watching him play. When those signposts in your life start falling away, and suddenly too, it is natural to take pause in what you are doing and be affected by it. Some will be more than others. If you were a Kobe or Lakers fan, and rooting for him brought you joy and pain and many of those moments with your friends or family, then my condolences to you. I'm near enough in age to Kobe and a father to a daughter as well with the same spark to be dampened by the news for other reasons. I unfortunately do get to take of the acutely and chronically dying. I don't feel the need for the misguided notion of debating which deaths should be more impactful.16 points

Jesus, can we not try him for rape in this thread? Go do that shit somewhere else. Start a thread. Maybe even in CR.13 points

I think you guys are failing to understand how much he doesn't care. He doesn't care so much that he came here, registered, and wrote a long ass post just to make sure we all understand exactly how much we care and he doesn't. He doesn't care so much that he came back hours later on a Saturday night to read the replies and again reiterate how he doesn't care because of how insignificant we are in his aggy eyes, and how his posts here should prove that. You guys are acting like he's a typical low self esteem, insecure aggy buffoon who is so desperate for attention and validation that he's come over here to "put us sips in our place" with his fightin aggy spirit. If you read his post, he clearly points out that he didn't come here, register an account, and start posting out of his ass because he cares about us or what we think, he did all of that because he DOESN'T care.13 points

I think this is shocking and terrible and it has hit me in a weird "hey motherfucker you are really mortal sort of way" But he's right you know....there's currently a thread where 3 kids were killed after ding dong ditching by a guy who chased them down in a car, and it's jokes ahoy. Personally I'm not for it here but the rest of you could just ignore it and move on, it's not out of sorts for this place.12 points

Can we get some more red banners going on every page about this? Maybe a pop up ad that just blares a siren horn and flashes a picture of Kobe?12 points

Hey dipshit: since 2012, Texas A&M has played 9 FCS teams and was 9-0 against them. The Aggies have also played 17 G-5 teamsand were 17-0 against them. They played 64 conference games. In that same time frame, Texas has played 0 FCS teams. The Longhorns also played 10 G-5 teams and were 10-0 against them. They played 73 conference games. You’ve only won more games because you’ve played a shittier schedule than we have. Stop sucking.12 points

https://www.thedailybeast.com/kobe-bryants-disturbing-rape-case-the-dna-evidence-the-accusers-story-and-the-half-confession People and the news are acting like this a tragedy larger than Roberto Clemente dying on his way to a humanitarian mission. Any death is sad, but he was a rapist not a martyr.11 points

I guess I'm wired differently, but it shouldn't take a celebrity passing to trigger that realization. Plenty of people die tragic deaths every day, plenty of kids. God help this country if Kanye and Kim go down in a fireball. The disruption will probably shave .5% off our GDP.11 points

Spare me the faux outrage. This site is wall to wall gallows humor 24/7 and people here crack jokes about people who weren't rapists dying all the time.11 points

I’ve been indifferent about Kobe, not a fan not a hater, just a guy I know because he’s famous. This article makes it pretty clear he committed rape and wasn’t punished. The overall tragedy sucks with kids and families gone, but I’m not buying in to the hero worship.8 points

If Bolton gave 2 shits about this country, he would have already marched his ass over to Congress and told them he would testify, subpoena or no.8 points

So intelligent, so curious, so thirsty for knowledge. For those who didn't catch this (and it happened just a week or two ago), Kobe introduced himself to Luka Doncic in a classically Kobe manner. Doncic was playing in a game, about to take the ball for an inbounds pass, when he heard someone speaking Slovenian to him from the stands. He turned around and it was Kobe Bryant. Love him or hate him, he was one of a kind, and those knew him will remember him as so much more than just a basketball player. He was a genuinely special person, flaws, mistakes and all. RIP Kobe.8 points

I’m the weird guy who doesn’t get any more emotional about celebrity deaths than any average Joe I hear about. Tragic no matter what.8 points
-
Absolutely. I can't imagine any of the players actually feel like playing. Kobe was either a teammate, contemporary, or inspiration to every single player in the league. It's the right thing to do.8 points

I know I should keep reading the thread before responding to this, but...wow. What must it be like for a man like Schiff to have just laid out everything dangerous about a president who wants to be a despot? You command the facts and speak eloquently and with real emotion. You stand up for the principles of the country in the best tradition of Congressional discourse. And the above is the response. It's so puerile in its form spiced with imperial malice and ending in a threat only a man who considers himself to be the state would make. You would think that all you have to do is raise your hand and gesture in the direction of this fine note from the president of a republic as a crowning confirmation of your entire argument. This villain, this clear and present threat to the republic, must be removed if we are to be who we say we are. Adam Schiff gets to live in a world almost drained of rationality. Republicans want to dismiss his speech because he quoted a reliable news source about the president threatening his own party with the phrase "heads on pikes." Here, the president openly threatens Schiff himself in the same royal voice. What more should be needed to rouse all the people? Can you not see this? What? This will all wash away in the continual waves of craziness, stupidity, malignancy, and ineptitude that batter the national shore continually everyday. "We are lost."8 points

She is lying about her mom. When I was on Hamm's super secret Facebook group, she said one of the reasons she moved to Texas other than business & Jimbo was her mom passed away and needed a fresh start. She left Hamm's FB group the 1st time because they were ragging on Winston. The 2nd time was when Hamm outed her as a bag lady.8 points

This is exactly what I was talking about: There is no "honor" in the monuments set up like Stonehenge (hubris much, aggy?) on the aggy campus. NOT ONCE does that monument state the truth -- they were killed in a negligent homicide. Enough of us are old enough and have enough family ties to know the truth about Bonfire -- it was a drunken revelry. That stack was built too high, without supervision, and by DRUNKS. You KILLED THEM. And the fact that even now, aggy gets all sanctimonious about it is disgusting. THAT is what we joke about, not the dead victims of your malevolent buffoonery.7 points

My son will get my father’s flag from his coffin, all of his medals, and his wedding ring. The ring is like the ring in Pulp Fiction to me. It’s the one thing I have to know where it is. I wore it for many years before I got too fat for it to fit.7 points

Yeah, we need a list of who we're allowed to be snarky about when they die. If this had been just Rick Fox, there'd be a ton more jokes.6 points
