I pointed out to my game watching crew yesterday after the game....Herman did not coach at Texas for 4 years, he coached Texas 1 year, 4x. Never had any growth, we were the same type of team in year one as we were/are year today. Penalties at crucial moments, turnovers when the game was either in hand or at the cusp of victory, special teams gaffes, missed opportunity after missed opportunity, bizarre personnel groupings and poor clock management. Not to mention an overall lack of maturity across all aspects of the program, including head coach. He never developed as a coach. He’s the same guy, and that’s what gets you passed by. You are never staying the same, you are either getting worse or getting better. In this case by staying the same, he got worse as the years have gone by. Can’t have that at a place like TX.24 points

I just hope that before we make any hires we run it by the overweight woman with a small Twitter following, that puts Longhorns on her car, hosts a podcast I’ve never heard of, and donates a negligible amount to the University. If she’s not on board, I’m out.18 points

You can’t lame duck a coach through the end of the season. The decision has been made, everyone knows the decision has been made, and you need to fire his ass. Let the team and recruits know right now that there is going to be a change. Giving Tom 4 weeks to clean out his office doesn’t do anyone any good.16 points

Ohio state fans They aren’t happy. Apparently, a lot of people are freaked out by the mere thought Urban would coach again—at UT. We have the resources and a fertile recruiting ground. This scares people. It should. If we were actually to land that plane. Lights out. It’s like introducing a new apex predator into an ecosystem. We, UT, haven’t scared teams in a long time. The last time was really VY and our conference opponents were super happy he declared. They couldn’t stop him. People actually didn’t want to play us. As much as I love Colt. And I do. And he was great and we were great with him. Fear was VY and what he could do to you. And yes, I know we had a more complete team. Crazy talented team. People were just intimidated by our QB.15 points

It is insane to me that people actually believe a coach that wins “the wrong way” would do more damage to the image of the University than whatever the fuck we’ve been doing for the past decade.14 points

"They did a good job defending Cade (Brewer). I think if you watch the replay, you’ll see Roschon Johnson wide open on the corner route, and we missed him.” This quote is so perfectly Herman. Hey, don't blame me I made a perfect call, blame our back up punter for not being able to go through the progressions and get to his second read.14 points

I agree with this. Or at least, football strategy analytics are immature and a long way from being applied properly. Baseball is a different animal. At the core of the game, there is one pitcher and one hitter. The pitcher is trying to prevent the hitter from hitting the ball hard. The hitter is trying to hit the ball hard. This almost never changes - hell, the situations in which this isn't the strategy (intentional walks, bunts) are almost extinct now. Neither the pitcher nor the hitter relies on anybody else to accomplish his goal. The game situation doesn't impact his goal. Because every pitch is minimally impacted by variables beyond the pitcher and the hitter, and because their objectives don't change based on game situations, the data is pretty straightforward and broadly applicable. (And yes, I know there is strategy based on how to pitch certain hitters, when to swing on 3-0, etc - but by and large, the sample sizes are so big that this degree of nuance doesn't change the analysis.) Football isn't remotely like that. "Should I go for it on 4th and 1" can't be applied to all situations uniformly. Just this one decision depends on the game situation - how much time is left, what's the score, etc - and personnel considerations - is my line getting its ass kicked, is my QB accurate, can my receivers be counted on to catch the ball in traffic, who's on the other side, etc. And then you have to combine the decision with the appropriate play call, which also carries all of these variables. So - it seems impossibly simplistic to throw a blanket "the analytics say..." statement for football, at least to the level of this type of decision making. There are simply too many variables and too much nuance to prepare "analytics" based decisions for every plausible situation. TL;DR - Herman is full of shit with his "analytics" garbage, and I doubt he understands any of it anyway at any meaningful level.11 points

You fucking idiots seriously think Cristobal is the choice? The dude that just lost to an unranked instate rival? The dude that cheats his ass off? The dude that owes all of his success to a stud qb that looks BETTER in the nfl? It’s like y’all want Charlie strong who cheats more but was less successful.10 points

I used to think Dabo was a good coach but then I learned that Dabo has had 9 former players arrested including 2 for armed robbery! He also hired a assistant coach that said racist shit. He should never be allowed to coach kids again ! https://www.greenvilleonline.com/story/sports/college/clemson/2018/03/29/arrests-clemson-football-players-havent-been-commonplace-under-coach-dabo-swinney/469844002/ It turns out when you coach hundreds of football players and hire dozens of assistants , some of them end doing bad things. The only logical outcome would be to abolish football... and all sports for that matter. While we are at it, all professors who taught these students should be banned as well since they were complicate in creating this immoral environment, even if the crime occurs year later. We must insist on a morally pure environment in order to watch and enjoy our underachieving sports teams.10 points

You should innocently ask him/her why they want to release a legendary sea monster of gigantic size and cephalod-like appearance from Scandinavian folklore and if he/she thinks such a thing running lose in the neighborhood might be a health hazard.8 points

I like the way you think. Both Michigan and Texas would pick the wrong one if given first choice, so we let Michigan go first and then we get the better coach.8 points

This post gives me hope because we all know Burton has Texas side sources. I don’t have visibility of the Texas brass on this. I would think that if Meyer has really re-considered coaching again, Texas would know by now and would be moving on to other candidates. Given they haven’t (per Burton), that would imply they are just down to final money details and Meyer is using continued retirement as a negotiating tactic. Hope so. As I’ve said for weeks, I thought he was ready to come until this recent wrinkle.8 points

I personally think we should stop with the “move the needle” type hires and just go get a football coach.8 points

Yeah, they definitely have a vested interest in keeping Urban "retired." They would no longer be pulling Texas HS kids like they are now and even more immediately, I would think it puts Quinn Ewers back in play.7 points

It's not the beginning of the end of the US, it'll be the beginning of the end of the GOP in Pennsylvania. Republicans in Pennsylvania are all like "we can use the scientific method to figure this out!"7 points

Never heard anything bad aboutUM at Bowling Green. Never heard a peep in Utah. So Urban had some players that ran wild at UF? Mack had his fair share of players who were boneheads. Brock Edwards? Robert Joesph? Every big time school has it's share of guys that break rules. Zack Smith is a piece of sh!t. UM had an unbelievable sense of loyalty to his grandfather. That was his mistake. I never heard a single statement about issues at a Florida involving women. It wasn't until ZS had his legal issues that things were said. If UM wants to coach again and go for a MNC at a 3rd school, I am all for it. This team lacks leadership and player development, Those are UM’s strongsuits. Hire him, flip a couple of recruits and prepare to win. All the snowflakes and piss off.7 points

People like Amanda forced us to endure 2011-2013 with Mack Brown while he just smeared his feces all over everything and made the necessary rebuild much more difficult than it should have been. Those people need to sit down and be quiet while big moves are made now. They had their say.7 points
