  2. LJ made the 53 man. Super happy for him. Hope he gets some targets this year. Here's a write up if anyone's interested: https://www.nola.com/sports/saints/article_5c584ebc-09f8-11ec-b8ff-37b2ac52d224.html They have a couple WRs potentially coming back at some point so he may wind back up on the practice squad at but making the opening 53 is a big deal for him.

  3. ULaLa can only play 11 players on defense like everybody else. Sark's offense has a home run built into every play. The reason why these two thing are related is because it limits the amount of "patient" drives we have (in a good way). Now, as much as I'd like Bijan scoring on every scamper, that shit ain't realistic. Certainly, if he's grabbing 10+ yards, let him roll. Since I don't think ULaLa's defensive coaches are morons, they'll certainly want to adjust. That's when things get fun. Picture "trips right" - three receivers to the wide, field side of the OL. Customarily, these receivers run at different "levels" in the defense: shallow (cross), medium (curl or hook), and deep (fly or post). It's almost impossible to cover receivers 1 on 1 for any length of time. Unless they've found 4 "shutdown" corners, there's going to have to be some rotation and help. Our receivers are taught to play routes and concepts instead of positions. You may be lined up inside, but you're still the "deep" route. This prevents the defense from aligning based on formation. They're going to have to play the routes as they develop. As the game moves and the RPO forces more attention to the LOS, the chances are the receivers will encounter misaligned coverage. When the shallow or mid-level guy gets it, that's a nice 8-15 yard gain. Eventually, the "misalignment" will happen to the deep guy. The NB looked into the backfield to see what Bijan was doing. His receiver got 2 steps on him. Now, the receiver encounters the deep safety. That safety will now ALWAYS be wrong. If he attacks inside to the field, the receiver bends his route to the pylon. If he tries to leverage the sideline to help, the route gets bent inside to the goalposts. Either way, the safety will be outside the shoulder of the receiver. The QB just leads him to daylight. The safety is on tape looking like he blew it big-time, but the reality is that pressure from other options put him in an unwinnable situation. Sark stresses seeing the deep route first. If it's covered, fine. Move on to other progressions. However, if the defense is properly respecting a non-predictable offense (!), the deep route will open at some point during every series.

  4. Black people have a generations old lack of access to healthcare relative to white people. This coupled with also having been the unwitting victims of immoral and deadly medical experiments make them on the whole less likely to be willing and able to be vaccinated than white people. The unprecedented outreach of this vaccine drive into underserved communities, along with being faced with the reality of the deadliness of this virus as it affects their friends and loved ones is bringing many around as the poll referenced above indicates. Unvaccinated who support Trump over party think The virus is a hoax or If real it was engineered by communist China to kill us and The vaccine was rushed, is dangerous, and ineffective if not an actual spreader of the virus and Even if the vaccine is safe and effective they refuse to take it because the government wants them to and The government and physicians, hospitals, and pharmacists are conspiring with Big Pharma to suppress use of an anti malarial and an antiparasitic (despite one showing no clinical effects and the other only showing shorter duration of anosmia in mild to moderate cases) and The most reasonable explanation for this conspiracy is to kill large numbers of freedom loving patriots in order to further the communist agenda of the left Which group concerns you more?

  6. This is a caveman, Herman-level take, which isn’t surprise coming from you. The whole point of having Sark as the coach is that we’re not reliant on our players to win battles in disadvantageous situations. The use of motions, mixing up formations, trips, bunch sets, and 2 TE and 2 RB sets will allow Sark to get plus 1-on-1 matchups in space and it won’t just be reliant on receivers beating press coverage. ULL can try to load the box, but they’ll then have to use safeties and LBs to cover guys like the Robinsons in space when we flex them out. Sark is not going to just play into their hands all day like Herman would have. And if ULL had the capability of taking the run away by stacking the box, then they wouldn’t have been 88th in the nation in rush yards per play on defense last year.

  9. I'm sure that no matter what the result is, surly won't rush to any unwarranted conclusions based on a single game. We'll reasonably and carefully analyze the result within the narrow context it deserves, everyone will avoid the perils of extrapolating beyond that, and we'll rationally apply the result to our expectations moving forward.

  10. After that, we went into the parking lot with groceries. A woman in an Alabama shirt rushed over to us. "I saw that all of you were wearing Texas A&M Fightin' Texas Aggie shirts, pants, socks, and ballcaps. I just love Aggies and all the great traditions you have. I won't tell my husband, but I secretly hope our youngest goes to A&M instead of 'Bama. She's already turned down a full scholarship offer to tu. "Anyway, I just wanted to say how classy and polite all the Aggies are. I'm very upset that the SEC let in tu, but you guys will teach 'em SEC football. Your daughter is the cutest I've ever seen. "Also, can you direct me to the Sam's Club? I just can't seem to find it." She was really great. We walked her to the front door of Sam's. She wept as she thanked us. "So classy." I think she knows we're going to beat the ever livin' ever lovin' hell out of them this year.

  12. It's the umpteenth verse in the same song -- minority-targeted whataboutism to avoid any culpability falling onto conservative white folks. School shootings and our gun culture present a problem? What about Chicago! Income inequality a problem? What about welfare queens and grape soda with food stamps! Police abuses a problem across the board? Why don't black people just follow cops' orders! A huge chunk of America won't get vaccinated, prolonging a pandemic? Even though the majority of unvaccinated are Trumpy white folks who have said they'll NEVER get a Bill Gates microchip vaccine....what about black america, a much smaller population, that has a low vaccination rate for different reasons! It's a continuous and predictable "what about" logical fallacy. It's how they operate. Always.

Not sure where to put this, but today was my firrst day back actually teaching, and I told my class they don’t have to wear a mask per law but I also gave my reason for wearing one while lecturing even tho I’m fully vaxxed. After that, mask use went from 8/17 to 14/17. Most of you know I teach at a 2-year in a very Trumpy area of Houston. I’d say our mask use by students overall on campus the last 2 days has damn near been 70/30.

  15. Sometimes complex problems have fairly simple but multi-faceted solutions: - vaccinate everyone who is able to be vaccinated - develop effective therapeutics to help with breakthrough infections, or infections in those who can't be vaccinated - promote behavior that helps mitigate the risk of transmission - let science dictate which potential therapeutics are bullshit I know, I live in fantasyland.

  16. See, this is the fundamental issue of Twitter as a medium. It’s fascinating to see this in real time, but a lot of times what you see lacks context. Based on the livery, those are CH-64E Sea Knights that belonged to the Department of State’s “Embassy Air.” They ferried diplomats and staff from the airport to the compound. State rendered them inoperable and announced they are staying behind because no one needs them anymore and they are old. Those will never fly again. Chucking grenades into things is a pretty dangerous and dramatic way to maybe not accomplish your goal.

  17. Speaking of, if I were a real estate developer, I'd buy large plot of barren treeless swampland in rural Texas/Alabama/wherever, subdivide it into the smallest lots possible, and turn it into a neighborhood called Trumpland. The main road would be MAGA Blvd, and there would also be streets named Melania Street, Ivanka Road, Kushner Way, Kung Flu Drive, and Patriot Way. Lots starting at $30K for 1/8th acre!

  18. Even though the trauma ICU is all I've known as a nurse, I have a second panel interview this afternoon with a local clinic system. Unfortunately, I can't leave the ICU bedside full time yet for school eligibility reasons (fucking Okies...it's a long story), but I think I need to take a big step back. Was supposed to have another interview with my hospital for a house supervisor position, but she hasn't tried to schedule it with me yet, soooo..

  21. Yeah, my dad got that email and when he called they said they'd be emailing him bar codes for access. I'm debating pre-game outdoors in the heat versus the air-conditioned Thompson Conference Center, with the latter concern finding some space where my vaccinated but 77-year old cancer survivor father won't be surrounded by the masses. He cares less than I do because he's sick of this pandemic and his years are more limited, but I'm mindful of his condition.

  23. I hate fake and falsely attributed quotes on the Internet, but Martin Luther actually said every word of these quotes when the Black Plague was ravaging Germany. I grew up Catholic and so did he, lol, but man, Evangecalism now has nothing to do with the Protestantism of Luther's invention or even Christianity as a whole. I know, I know, we've all been saying that on her for years, but I love this stuff from Luther, the OG Preacher of FAFO. There's this: “I shall ask God mercifully to protect us. Then I shall fumigate, help purify the air, administer medicine and take it. I shall avoid places and persons where my presence is not needed in order not to become contaminated and thus perchance inflict and pollute others and so cause their death as a result of my negligence. If God should wish to take me, he will surely find me and I have done what he has expected of me and so I am not responsible for either my own death or the death of others. If my neighbor needs me however I shall not avoid place or person but will go freely as stated above. See this is such a God-fearing faith because it is neither brash nor foolhardy and does not tempt God.” And this: "They are much too rash and reckless, tempting God and disregarding everything which might counteract death and the plague. They distain the use of medicines; they do not avoid places and persons infected by the plague, but lightheartedly make sport of it and wish to prove how independent they are. They say that it is God’s punishment; if he wants to protect them he can do so without medicines or our carefulness. This is not trusting God but tempting him. God has created medicines and provided us with intelligence to guard and take good care of the body so that we can live in good health. If one makes no use of intelligence or medicine when he could do so without detriment to his neighbor, such a person injures his body and must beware lest he become a suicide in God’s eyes. By the same reasoning a person might forego eating and drinking, clothing and shelter, and boldly proclaim his faith that if God wanted to preserve him from starvation and cold, he could do so without food and clothing. Actually that would be suicide. It is even more shameful for a person to pay no heed to his own body and to fail to protect it against the plague the best he is able, and then to infect and poison others who might have remained alive if he had taken care of his body as he should have. He is thus responsible before God for his neighbor’s death and is a murderer many times over."

  26. Most of the equipment was given to the ANA. You can’t take it back. America has always left behind equipment. Always. It’s cost prohibitive to remove it. None of it will work without parts (which they don’t have) and extreme monthly maintenance (which they can’t do). The Russian gear they’ve used for 40 years will forever work for them Instead the military makes most of it inoperable. Which they did in Afghanistan. https://news.yahoo.com/us-permanently-disabled-more-150-222334223.html?fr=sycsrp_catchall The mouthbreathers are driving me to drink even more than I already do.

  27. Yeah because bijan sucks and card is a noodle arm INT machine with small hands and the entire defense is a bunch of underweight and slow anemic players. The majority of this team is returning talent and they lost by a combined 13 to not go undefeated last year. The problem hasn't been players or scheme the last 4 years it's been having a stupid shithead egomaniac at head coach who was completely out coached nearly every game. Sark and his staff aren't a bunch of smart guys who have never coached 5 stars. They are used to exclusively coaching elite college and pro level talent. I get the whole "the last 11 years have been bad" argument, but this isn't charlie fucking strong and his band of complete morons. This also isn't fucking Case McCoy taking over for Colt. It's Hudson Card the #2 rated QB in his class and a top 100 recruit beating out an equally impressive redshirt junior in Casey Thompson. If Card has a mental meltdown he will just get yoinked for Casey, but if you think that his mental fortitude is weak then idk what to tell you. There is absolutely no evidence supporting that. Buncha dumb fucks in here acting like they want to lose instead of admitting what is in front of their face. This team is good. It's going to win a lot of games.

  29. Because he was already gone. The ship had sailed... and as much I tried squinting my eyes, imagining I had caught a glimpse of a glorious young mullet'd man looking back at me from the edge of the horizon, waiting to see if I might commandeer a worthy vessel and give chase to rescue him from a life of not knowing if the people around him are actually Canadian or hillbillies, it was all for naught. I am a fool, and I'll bear this shame evermore.

  30. IMG shouldn't be televised either. The reason shit like Bishop Sycamore exists is because of things like IMG. If you're not a school first then your high school athletics teams shouldn't be widely hyped and publicized. If those kids want to go to IMG to prep for college sports that's fine, IMG actually educates their kids also. They can play a schedule against other academies that recruit nationally and that league can create their own television network. That's not high school football.
