  1. Some of this stuff might have been mentioned randomly in a thread here or there, but I haven't seen it. I'm just going to throw some CFB things out there with 1/3 of the season behind us that I find interesting in case anyone else has a POV on it or some other things to add. I know this is long for those with short attention spans, but I don't give a shit and they can click out and find a safe space. -Notre Dame is about to play their 2nd of 5 consecutive games in which the opponent has a bye before playing them. That's 5 games of 2 weeks to prepare for ND by the opponent. I don't think I've ever even heard of that. I hate Notre Dame, but damn, that shit is rough. -Notre Dame is undefeated, yet they're a home dog this weekend to a G5 team. Again, I don't know if I've ever heard of that. I know they've had a few seasons in the last 20 in which they flat out sucked, so maybe it's happened then, or whenever that high school coach was coaching them ahead of the Lou Holtz era. -The last time Iowa allowed more than 24 points in a game was November 23rd, 2018 in a win over Nebraska. Iowa has a pedestrian offense and Kirk Ferentz, so they're not a top 10 team to me and I think they will probably lose their next two to prove it, but the defense is elite. -BYU has a better Pac 12 conference record (3-0) this year than anyone in the conference. "That's a bullshit stat since the conference teams haven't played each other 3 times yet." Fair, but there are only 6 conference teams undefeated in conference so far, and 4 of those teams play each other this weekend. BYU still has Wazzou and USC left on their schedule. They have a pretty freaking great chance of going 5-0 in the Pac 12 on the season, which speaks to either their legitimacy as a top 15 program or the futility of the Pac 12, or maybe both. -The Big 10 West is an absolute dumpster fire, with Iowa and Purdue the only 2 teams having no losses in conference yet. Purdue has actually played teams tough this year, losing a close game at Notre Dame in which ND pulled away late, and beating another underrated and decent team, Oregon State. They'll run over Minnesota this weekend at home, then play @Iowa after a bye, then Wiscy, @Nebraska, MSU, @Ohio State. If they go 4-2 and beat Iowa in that stretch, they've got a great shot at winning the west. Brohm has a chance to remind people that he exists. -Tennessee could have had Greg Schiano coaching for them. They've beaten Bowling Green and Tennessee Tech. They still get to play South Carolina, South Alabama and Vanderbilt. If these idiots can sneak a win in against Missouri or Kentucky, they'll go bowling having beaten one P5 team with a winning record. I don't see how they're better than 6-6. Missouri is pretty fucking terrible as well, especially on defense, so even if Tenn wins that game, they might be 6-6 without beating a P5 team with a winning record. -As to Missouri, they've beaten Central Michigan 34-24 and SE Missouri State 59-28. They gave up 35 and 41 to UK and Boston College respectively. They get Arkansas and ATM from the west. The ATM game will feature one team with an above average offense against an above average defense and the other team with an abysmal offense going against an abysmal defense. Anyone thinking ATM will just roll through them in Columbia before the season has to be rethinking that position. -The SEC East overall is a fucking joke. Florida looked good against Alabama, but they're a Dan Mullen coached team that will find a way to finish unimpressively with a 9-4 record. Todd Grantham is still the DC there. Wow. Missouri and Tennessee would qualify as trash if that word weren't being defined currently by Vanderbilt and South Carolina. Kentucky is 4-0 by playing ULaMonroe, Missouri, Chattanooga, and South Carolina. They beat Chatt in a squeaker, 28-23. They still get to play NMSU, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, and Mississippi State. They will be the worst 8-4 or 9-3 team in the country. Georgia is the class of the division, obviously. Their October opponents are a combined 14-2 currently, so if they exit the month 8-0, they'll have earned the hype. They'll walk through November playing Missouri, Tenn, Charleston Southern, and Ga Tech. -I don't know who else watched the USC/Oregon State game, but it was a gratifying blowout that was uglier than the score reflected. Oregon State won in the Coliseum for the first time in 61 years. -Florida State is 0-4 and favored at home by 4.5 points against a 3-1 Syracuse team that just beat a pesky Liberty team. I assume Vegas knows something I don't. FSU has UMass on the schedule in a few weeks. There's a legitimate shot that they finish 1-11 if you take a look at the schedule. I mean, it's ugly. -Oklahoma is giving up 10.5 points to KSU in Manhattan this weekend. In 3 home games so far against FBS opponents, OU hasn't beaten a team by more than 7 points. I don't think Vegas knows a thing here. I just think everyone is expecting OU to be better than they've looked so far. I don't expect to see that this week. They usually wait until the Texas game to get their shit together. -Oregon visits Palo Alto this weekend. Stanford blows, but Mario Cristobal is west coast Tom Herman. He'll fuck up a game this year somewhere, so I wouldn't be shocked if it's this one. -Nebraska is 2-3 and still plays Northwestern this weekend and @Minnesota in a few weekends. They also get Michigan, Purdue, Ohio State and Iowa at home, and Wisconsin on the road. It's not difficult to see them finishing 4-8 in Frost's 4th year on campus. -Finally, ULaLa plays an undefeated South Alabama team this weekend. As far as things go for Texas' bowl outlook and national POV at the end of this season, provided Texas is sitting on something like 9-3 or better, it would be great if ULaLa was 11-1. This is actually a key game for them getting there. Sorry for the tl;dr aspects of this, but figured some folks might give a shit in discussing it.

  2. Based on my experience with cyclists in Austin obeying precisely 0.0% of traffic laws, I still hate cyclists. I also believe that kid should have been taken from the scene in cuffs and charged. Both things can be true.

  4. Went to my favorite bar the other day where I know everyone is vaccinated. Its a small neighborhood bar where you know everyone there except on the weekend nights when it gets busy. Anyway this guy, known Trumpkin, comes walking in. One of the regulars yells, "Asshole, have you been vaxxed yet?!" Asshole says no and the whole bar starts yelling at him to GTFO. He didn't leave but went to the far corner of the bar in exile.

  5. Some things I saw watching both games on Saturday that should be relevant to this week: - Duggan has nice pocket presence and can make plays but he can still not hit the broad side of the barn downfield. Especially if he is subject to any sort of pressure. I suppose there's a possibility he starts hitting those throws against us because fuck us we're Texas but he isn't throwing the dimes that Colombi was in the 2nd half against us. He just doesn't have the tools. I'd be shocked if he doesn't hang a couple up there that either get picked or close. - Zach Evans is a nice back but doesn't seem to be that workmanlike yet - especially behind their OL which seems fairly porous. I'd expect him to have a few nice scampers but he isn't going for 220 on 28 carries or anything like that. - Their OL had some nice drives but really started to get worked at the LoS in the 2nd half by a pretty deep and lean SMU DL. Texas' DL is much bigger and should be more talented (though I say that hesitantly). Someone like Collins should really have the potential to shine in this one as the game goes on. - TCU did the most damage over the middle of the field - but SMU has had some pretty terrible secondary play for big parts of this season - including LBs in coverage. Texas has not been stellar either but I'd kill for Josh or Jerrin Thompson or even Jamison to play for SMU. Let alone DMO or Ovie. - TCU's D line is shitty. Like - not good at all. Mordecai evaded pressure well and they rarely stopped any SMU back at the line - with a ton of runs going straight into the 2nd level before contact was even made. SMU and UT probably have comparable O Lines but I'd think UT has a higher ceiling here. I do think SMU run blocks a bit better - but Texas has a better stable of backs and better play calling. - TCU still has talent at the 2nd and 3rd levels but they are extremely mistake prone, don't seem to scheme well, and just flat out aren't that disciplined. I'd fully expect fat pat to clean some of that up for our game but I really think if we grind out a couple early drives against them they will fold like a cheap lawn chair and Casey can really take the top off. Ultimately - Texas and SMU are fairly similar teams stylistically with similar strengths and weaknesses. They both like to run the ball about half the time (maybe a bit more with Texas) and try to bend not break on D. SMU has a bit more quality at the 3rd and 4th WRs, but has nothing like Texas' 3 headed monster in the backfield - and G. Riley isn't Sark. Mordecai has had a nice year so far but I'd probably take Casey over him in either system. On defense - both teams can get hurt through the air but SMU has nowhere near the talent that Texas does - especially at LB. Even Brockermeyer would probably be SMU's best LB. It's not like SMU totally ran away with it Saturday but we did show up and win fairly convincingly and expose some major issues with this TCU team. Texas' ceiling is much higher than SMU's - and if they show up and play nasty and focused from the jump I'm not seeing a good result for the frogs. There is nothing to indicate that TCU will be able to keep in check the 30, 40, 50+ yd plays from the Robs and Worthy and even guys like Whitt and RoJo could definitely pants this team. This is a road game - and Sark needs to prove that he can handle those - but this isn't Arkansas, this isn't Fayetteville, and this isn't the same Texas team. Give me 52-28.

  7. Our old friend Mike Leach visiting College Station this weekend. From the history vault: ["A&M wants to rip on our fans and all that. Our fans are as good as their fans are. One thing our fans don't do is sit around and whine about other teams' fans. A&M spent a significant part of the week whining about what our fans are like. Why don't they worry about what themselves are like?"] https://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2017/12/28/15024328/mike-leach-quotes-best-funniest-washington-state-head-coach ["It's interesting to me that all these Aggies—whether they're at A&M or here—are sitting around with halos over their heads and they have some divine expertise on fanmanship. I just don't believe that's the case. For the record, I think our fans are better than the Aggie fans." "How come they get to pretend they are soldiers? The thing is, they aren't actually in the military. I ought to have Mike's Pirate School. The freshmen, all they get is the bandanna. When you're a senior, you get the sword and skull and crossbones. For homework, we'll work pirate maneuvers and stuff like that."] https://bleacherreport.com/articles/78729-leachisms-quotes-from-the-pirate-king

  8. Are the God-awful, suffering deaths of over 700,000 of your fellow Americans not enough for you to be "worried" about this shit? I personally know at least a half-dozen of my high school peers who've succumbed to the virus based on Class of '89 Facebook postings. I turned 50 in June. so they had at least a couple of good decades in front of them even with comorbidities. This shit killed my own dad. He had a horrible, miserable death while stuck in isolation for a month. The last report I received from the hospital before his death was that he had two holes in his lungs and was begging them, crying and pleading, to just let him go home and die. My mom, being a good Christian, felt that would be tantamount to suicide and wouldn't sign the DNR papers until the very last moment. He lost his fruitless battle at 4am the early morning after Christmas. I disagree with you on a lot of shit but hope to God you don't ever have to know one of your cherished loved ones dies gasping for air in such pain, misery, and isolation while knowing you couldn't do a damned thing to help.

  9. Your team was 34th in defensive FEI last year. lol Y’all just played a bunch of shitty teams. Texas was 13th in FEI and we fired our HC for sucking. Y’all were 17th in FEI, lost your starting QB and 4 OL and convinced yourselves you’d be a juggernaut this year. Never change, aggy.

  13. Interesting anecdote: my cousin is a college graduate, anti-vax, evangelical nut job. Her oldest kid is a senior in high school and just turned 18. He’s asthmatic and has a few other health issues. He texted my sister and I last week and asked us some questions. Long story short, he stopped at cvs on the way home from school yesterday and got a shot. He has no plans to tell his parents about it. I think there is an amount of de-education that has to occur to get to where the anti-vaxxers are.

  14. It's Georgia and a bunch of also-rans or outright trash. I realize that you're a Florida homer and a Dan Mullen apologist, but the rest of us with a pair of eyes can see them for the run of the mill 8-4 team that they'd be in most conferences. They'd finish no better than 3rd or 4th in either the Pac 12 or Big 12, and I'm not a fan of either of those conferences. If the SEC weren't pussies with the scheduling and actually scheduled other P5 teams, played 9 conference games, and stopped demeaning the sport with the disgusting FCS bullshit, the entirety of the SEC East outside of Georgia and Florida would have losing records and Florida would be staring down the barrel of 8-4. Take your weak SEC-is-the-goat-conference bullshit to a ready and willing audience of room temperature IQs over at SECRant.

  18. Coal rolling, or whatever the fuck that is called, is a dick move even if no one gets hurt. That kid should have been rolled right up into jail since people were injured. // I've got zero beef with cyclists who utilize the millions of dollars worth of bike lanes we've built in Austin to accommodate people crazy enough to commute on a bike in Texas. It's the assholes who insist on riding on roads they shouldn't be on, even if they legally can, that piss me off. It seems like a daily occurrence that some jackwagon or two dressed in little girls' gymnastics outfits are slowly cruising down Old Spicewood Springs Road during rush hour, which has two lanes and no shoulder. Fuck every last asshole who does this. Just because you have a right to the road doesn't mean you should be on it. I don't care if you like the shade and the trees, it's not safe and you are fucking with everyone else's day when there are thousands of overpriced bike lanes all over this town for you and your twenty or thirty friends to enjoy. I guarantee every last one of these assholes would be screaming bloody murder if they were stuck driving behind a car moving 20 miles below the speed limit, but we're supposed to be nice to them because they have a spandex fetish and dysfunctional testicles. The reasoning of cyclists lines up perfectly with antivax idiots. Always screaming about their rights without ever considering whether the exercise thereof is causing others harm. I suspect we could find a similar form of brain damage in both groups if we fund a study. // Sorry, I blacked out for a second. Fuck that diesel driving asshole kid!

  19. I’ll field this one for for our pal in Vancouver. What he’s saying is that the expectations from the aggy hype machine in regards to the defense are so contrary to the actual results on the field that his brain can’t process two such diametrically opposed concepts. Like someone trying to be a pacifist while also being pro-rape. So as a result, he’s implying there’s something we don’t know or understand happening behind the scenes causing such a seismic incongruity. Like an unreported covid outbreak. Or faeries. Whatever the mysterious reason, I’d bet good money he won’t settle on “culture issues” as the cause. He’ll almost certainly stick with faeries over Jumbo Fisher Culture Rot.

  28. You have a state full of natural resources which looks and functions like a third world country. You default on things or go bankrupt. Texas is already a bottom 10 state in terms of infrastructure (roads, dams, bridges, effective and efficient travel systems). Texas is below average state in terms of their educational system ranking anywhere from 28th to 36th in education for children. Texas is often ranked in the bottom 10 as far as healthcare by state. Texas is one of the 10 worst state's in wealth disparity by many rankings. Much of this is because of the state's tax structure is abhorrent and frankly, stupid. If you're not going to have a state income tax, and you want to reduce or eliminate property taxes, then increasing sales taxes (which are generally considered a recessive tax) is only exacerbating all the problems with Texas has with it's state's fiscal policy. In other words, it's would be the fiscal platform of folks who don't understand economics.

But I wish him well. Tom Herman is not a good enough football coach, either, and he's also an insufferably arrogant douchebag whose vagina lips flap in the wind like a pair of flags. I wish him fatness and baldness.

  31. I had a guest at the park yesterday strike up conversation with me. 50ish year-old white dude in an American muscle shirt with cutoff sleeves. He was being very friendly and asking a lot of questions. He found out that I used to work in medicine, then immediately hit me with "What do you think about HCQ and Ivermectin?" By this time, his wife was interested in the discussion as well. I was so taken aback that he would want to steer the conversation this direction that I instinctively answered immediately and honestly that I didn't think much of them for this illness and that everyone should just get the vaccine. He went on to say that he didn't feel like much was being done to help those who were very sick, to which I responded that hospitals are overwhelmed right now and it's difficult to treat people who are that sick. Shockingly, they were not as eager to talk to me after that and left for another area of the park. The Covid denial shit was bad enough when I was still seeing patients last December. I can't imagine dealing with this shit on a daily basis with the idiots of the north Texas extras, much less still living in sub-40% vaccinated Wise county.
