Cad Bane growing up on the mean streets of Star Wars East New York. Exactly what we all wanted to see.

Patton Oswalt screaming voice: “I don’t give a shit where the stuff I love comes from. I just love the stuff that I love!”

If you are a fan of the Rewatchables podcast, the latest episode is a 2 parter on Star Wars.

Simmons infamously hates Star Wars, but I heard he was converted after this episode.

He was born in 1969. Absolutely insane that he didn’t see this movie in theaters and fall in love as a 8 year old.

We went over to my mother’s house to give her the cards and flowers for Mother’s Day. Youngest started nosing around in the cabinets and so we got down all of these. Probably some great lead paint on them.

Why is your kid poking around my mom's house?

We had a few of those glasses, no telling what happened to them.  When I hit my BB-gun/fireworks stage I decimated what would be thousands of dollars worth of SW toys.

Yup we had all those glasses.  Didn't save them, we used them daily, and so eventually the inevitable happened and we broke them all over time.

I'd love to still have them intact, would make a fine tall Long Island Iced Tea.

Since I'm sitting in my parent's house and know where these are I just peaked at our collection that did survive to now.

Empire - just 2 and 4 of your pictures

Jedi - 1, 2 and 4(x2)

Vader in that first glass

Sasha - Last night I had dream that I did a tandem skydive ...

Which Despecialized do people recommend now? I have the 4K77 one. Looking at which one would look the best in 4K.

4k77, 4k80 and 4k83 aren't despecialized - they're scans of the original theatrical releases! I like the ones that have DNR passes to reduce the amount of "snow"

They look great on an OLED, IMO

Come back to the light atom heart… you’ve succumbed too much to the dark side

I have no idea if the person who fed the lines into the LLM knew it or not, but George Lucas was originally slated to make Apocalypse Now for Francis Ford Coppola, and Lucas planned to shoot it on 16mm in Vietnam, in the early 70s, you know, while the Vietnam War was still raging.

So yes, I found this very amusing.

And it's a huge "What if" - what if Lucas goes through and makes Apocalypse Now?  Does it do well? If not, does Star Wars never happen?

Lucas has said multiple times in interviews that Star Wars (1977) was his Vietnam protest film. The rebels were modeled after the Viet Cong and the Empire was modeled after the Americans and their allies in Vietnam

He wanted it to be clear that empires, not only like that in Star Wars but also (in his own words) the real-life English Empire and American Empire, were in the wrong. According to Lucas, "That was the whole point."

This can be viewed as either less than 2 years from now, or still almost 2 years to go, (and likely will warrant its own thread eventually) but …

April 30, 2027 will be the 50th Anniversary of Star Wars. Disney is putting it back in theaters.

https://www.starwars.com/news/star-wars-50th-anniversary-theatrical-release

For the real die hards, the film will be in theaters 4 days later.

Also no word as to which version will get released, the ‘77 theatrical cut or the SE Shitty Editions. But as noted there is a little time for planning.

Portion of an interview with Adam Driver, discussing a SW film that never was about Kylo Ren that he and Soderbergh pitched to Disney:

A ‘Star Wars’ near-miss
“I always was interested in doing another ‘Star Wars,’” says Driver, who starred as Kylo Ren in the trilogy kicked off by “The Force Awakens.” “I had been talking about doing another one since 2021. Kathleen (Kennedy) had reached out. I always said: With a great director and a great story, I’d be there in a second. I loved that character and loved playing him.”

Driver says he took a concept to Soderbergh for a film that would take place after 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker.” That movie culminated in Ren’s redemption and apparent death. Driver had undertaken the trilogy with an arc in mind for Ren that inverted the journey of Darth Vader. As the trilogy evolved, it didn’t play out that way. Driver felt there was unfinished business for Kylo Ren, or as he was known before turning to the Dark Side, Ben Solo.

Soderbergh and Rebecca Blunt outlined a story that the group then pitched to Kennedy, Lucasfilm vice president Cary Beck and Lucasfilm chief creative officer Dave Filoni. They were interested, so the filmmakers then pulled in Scott Z. Burns to write a script. Driver calls the result “one of the coolest (expletive) scripts I had ever been a part of.”

“We presented the script to Lucasfilm. They loved the idea. They totally understood our angle and why we were doing it,” Driver says. “We took it to Bob Iger and Alan Bergman and they said no. They didn’t see how Ben Solo was alive. And that was that.”

“It was called ‘The Hunt for Ben Solo’ and it was really cool,” adds Driver. “But it is no more, so I can finally talk about it.”

Soderbergh, in a statement, said: “I really enjoyed making the movie in my head. I’m just sorry the fans won’t get to see it.”

Representatives for Disney and Lucasfilm declined comment.

It’s been a period of transition for the feature-film operations of “Star Wars.” Kennedy, the longtime Lucasfilm president, is expected to step down by the end of the year. After a feature-film lull, numerous projects are in various stages of development or production including Jon Favreau’s “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” Shawn Levy’s “Starfighter” with Ryan Gosling, a film directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy featuring Daisy Ridley returning as Rey, a James Mangold-directed movie and a new saga helmed by Simon Kinberg.

For Driver, who starred in Soderbergh’s 2017 heist comedy “Logan Lucky,” the decision was mystifying. Who wouldn’t want to see a Soderbergh-directed “Star Wars” film?

“We wanted to be judicial about how to spend money and be economical with it, and do it for less than most but in the same spirit of what those movies are, which is handmade and character-driven,” Driver says. “‘Empire Strikes Back’ being, in my opinion, the standard of what those movies were. But he is, to me, one of my favorite directors of all time. He lives his code, lives his ethics, doesn’t compromise.”

Meh.  I never found Kylo Ren to be an intriguing character.  He seemed very contrived.

Remember when Luke thought he sensed the dark side in him, so he was just going to straight up slice his nephew in half in his sleep with a lightsaber? That was great storytelling.

He didn't though...and since he was human, it was a normal reaction to have that briefest of thoughts, before realizing he shouldn't even think that way.

Forgot Luke was like Jesus and never had a bad emotion or thought enter his head...oh wait, Jesus did have that moment.

Of ALL the things to hate about that movie, that's the dumbest one...

He was a real human being, not a fucking saint.  It's reasonable for him to have that momentary thought to end it all before it got bad, and then remember that's not him.

Gotta disagree here. There’s a huge ocean of possible reactions between being SW Jesus and actively standing over someone with a weapon about to kill them and deciding at the last moment not to. I mean that sure as shit isn’t a normal reaction in any of my lifetime of interactions and I wouldn’t expect anyone to be OK with an almost child killer hero in real life or on screen.

(Han and Leia come downstairs for breakfast) “Hey where’s Ben? He must be out doing chores.”
Luke: “Actually, I was getting some bad vibes, so I sliced him up in the middle of the night. His remains are outside if you want to go say good morning.”

He literally says he has a momentary reaction, the briefest of thoughts, he didn't go in there to kill him, he reached inside, saw what's in there and had a reaction.

But I've argued this to death and people won't change their minds.
